Re: Around the NFL Free Agency Thread 2013
It just doesn't add up..
We lose Polumbus who by all accounts was dreadful last year and we decide to take a flyer on Pashos (who spurned us three years ago) and Trueblood who was even worse in 2011 than Polumbus was in 2012. Not to mention we have a young guy like Crompton who by all accounts is expected to hold down the fort at some point in time. THEN, you have the CB/S position. We lose Hall and Madieu, who weren't exactly stars, but they played 16 games for us and started. What are the answers? Nothing. There's just got to be something planned here, because historically we have never gone into a training camp with unproven players and draft picks to fill out a position. Shanny has always brought in veteran competition. And so we wait.. |
Re: Around the NFL Free Agency Thread 2013
Well, I think it's best man win between Compton Pashos and Trueblood, my money is on Compton. CB/S is where the cap hit has hurt us the past two years, and I doubt there is much more planned except to see what shakes out of the tree as draft picks and 1st ballot FA's(guys signed the first week of FA) are signed. So we will either go with youth, or 2nd tier in those areas. It's either a blessing that there is seemingly a lot of quality out there both in FA and the draft, or if we can't get any, a curse because next years group may not have the same overall talent level.

Shockingly probably not ever issue s going to be addressed with the best solution. The RB position was a concern last year; who here was confident this time last year we have the second leading rusher in the NFL at the end of the season and we get that guy in the 6th round of the draft. Nobody. |

My money is on Pashos. When healthy in 2011, he was the 6th best OT in terms of PBE. Trent was 19th last year.. So yeah high praise for Tony. Anyways again how does a CB depth chart of, Wilson, Crawford, Murphy suffice? Quarterbacks will have us highlighted in 6 different colors on their schedules. We'll get shredded. |

CB depth seems to make or break teams much more often. |

I'm really wary of Pashos.
Heres a picture of his foot after surgery. CAUTION: Its kinda scary...not for the squeemish. http://www.brownsgab.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/Pashos-foot.jpg |

Good risk. |

We certainly aren't going to have a defensive backfield that scares qb's, so it will be another season of shoot out games most likely. I expect it's going to be a good thing our offense likely will be scoring 27-33 points per game. |

Counting on Minnifield.. That's what it's come down to I guess. You're right and the truth is I trust our front office to pluck a couple more Richard Crawford's in the draft, but we're playing with fire if these draft picks don't work out. I haven't even mentioned safety. |
Re: Around the NFL Free Agency Thread 2013
Minnifield knee is bad. Kiem had an article in his email about the extent of it. I believe its a 2 torn acls and a microstress fracture surgery. No counting should be done with Minnifield, its only a bonus at this point.

Well that's exactly why I hesitated to say it. We are counting on him as it stands. |

No actually that's not what I said, because that would be foolish. |

A guy coming off 2 ACLs and micro fracture surgery has a lonnnnggg way to get back, and most likely will never be the same. (the micro fracture surgery being one of the biggest detriments to his career) I posted last night, that when you have a defense ranked so poorly against the pass that we were able to keep who we could afford and filling out the rest with draft picks (remember this draft is deep at CB, S, and T). The thinking being we were 31st aginst the pass last year, we liked what we have we the rest of the team so they are priority number one. We (the FO) will fill out the defensive backfield with rookies and a 2nd tier FA here and there, and we honestly can't be much worse. |
