Bruce Allen does not need to be fired, IMO. His responsibility needs to be changed. He is the Manager and a good one at that. He needs to hire the executive cook (GM). He already has him on staff in AJ Smith. AJ needs to pick the players and then Bruce needs to negotiate the contracts and be the buffer for Snyder.
Gruden needs to be traded to the Raiders or another team, he is just not a fit for this atmosphere. It would workout better for all parties involved if they let another team take on that pay check.
I like it. Except nobody is taking Gruden for HC. Maybe OC, and they're not gonna "pay" |
Re: The everything Gruden thread
Due to the complete shitshow he inherited the jury is still out. I have never once said Gruden is a great or even good coach. I simply think it is not fair to fire him for turning a 3-13 team into a 3-13 team without the benefit of the cap money, first round pick, and a real DC.
What you described is the embodiment of piss poor decision making. That's not how you evaluate someone. You evaluate someone based on whether they are performing and excelling at their job. Looking at the Redskins it is my belief that they are remarkably worse than last year's team despite minor change in personal. With the addition of DJax the case could even be made that they are better than last year's team. I think if you truly look at Gruden's body of work as the a head coach of the Redskins you will quickly realize this men is incompetent. Usually all the dirt comes out after somebody gets fire, for example, Zorn not practicing situational plays and I think we will be just as appalled when dirt comes out on Gruden. |

It would have been a shame to have had so many good players and coaches cut or fired before their time. I have no idea what Gruden will do next year, but I do know that the offense in Cincy is mediocre at best since he left . I do know that there are probably no coaches in the NFL today that would have more than 5 wins on this team today. |

It's hard to put that genie back into the bottle and make him just do contracts, either from the team's or Allen's point of view. Bruce needs to call a realtor. |
Re: The everything Gruden thread
Most cases in the NFL I would agree with you 100%. But this is not most cases in the NFL, and I would have tried to make sure the team got some sort of points before the half. Just pissed me off we got nothing. I think it was the right call too....that made me more mad.
So clear from my armchair tho
I thought he called a pass play that went bust and the QB took off. He shouldn't have to explain the situation to a 3rd year NFL professional quarterback who can look up at the clock and realize he needs to make a quick completion or incompletion to save enough time to kick a FG. It's all "ifs" and "buts" though. If it was a TD he would have been a hero. |

Allen still has final approval, but the real cooks are AJ & Co. That is the closest thing to what will happen that we will get. Allen will not be fired after one year as president. |

Trade his narrow ass ASAP..... |

No offense but my understanding is that what you said is untrue. Why is AJ just a consultant? Because Allen is calling the personnel shots much more actively than "final approval." Mike Shanahan left a personnel power vacuum and Allen filled it. |

Mike Shanahan left a personnel power vacuum and Allen filled it.
I was speaking about my future scenario, not the current situation. AJ is an team executive, more than a consultant. No one outside of Redskins Park knows really what he does for the team. I think this is how they will adjust the front office. |

I think this is how they will adjust the front office.
I think that would be an improvement over what we have now. We had a lot of injuries this year, but I would still say Allen's first FA class was pretty bad, and the draft class is at best mediocre. I'm fine with Allen doing contracts, but he shouldn't be the guy calling the personnel shots. |
