It may be true, but Florio is notoriously wrong, and this could simply be KC pushing his leverage to the hilt for a long term deal.
Or it could be the ongoing saga that is the skins fan's life.
That's most likely the case. It's possible he's using it as one more step to help him get out the door. But more likely he's doing this so that the tag value of $24M gets baked into actuality. When your starting point in a negotiation is $24M guaranteed over one year, it gives you more leverage than when you don't have $24M guaranteed over one year. After signing the tag he'll be one step closer to a 3rd tag worth $34M, which puts insane amounts of leverage in his court. I think he and his agent are conducting what is probably the perfect contract negotiation. |
Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
JLC thinks he'll sign the tag, and then sign an extension by July 15. He seems to think he wants to be a Redskin but is looking to drive max value from the process.
I trust JLC over Jason Reid. Let's separate fact from fiction in QB market for Romo, Garoppolo and Cousins - CBSSports.com |

Picture of Teds Montana grill that Cousins was at yesterday. Anyone recognize the terrain or the license plate? I'm curious to now where he is. Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
Don't read anything into Cousins being in whatever city a Ted's Grill is located in.

Oh, come on, clearly if he's in Montana, he's looking at signing with a CFL team!! edit: and does anyone else find it strange that a buffalo barbecue joint from Montana only has restaurants east of the Mississippi (I'm ignoring Colorado). IF ONLY we had a bbq expert on the Warpath to let us know how their food really is!!! |

Bethesda web sleuth checking in. Negative on both accounts. Teds is in Gaithersburg (DTC) not Bethesda. One in Gaithersburg has no rotating door, nor a giant bison on top. Time for me to go back to work now. |
Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
We already have far too many posts on where Ted's Grill is. 1 was too many.

Cousins is going to be rolling in the money one way or another. I keep trying to figure out what's going on with the negotiations, and the only thing I do know is that we will know, beyond a shadow of doubt by July 15th. Other than that, it's kind of fun to sit and speculate what's going to happen. I'm thinking the team does want to sign him long term - that's probably their first option. But seeing as how Cousins' agent probably wants the team to sweat and wants to make sure that Cousins gets $24M guaranteed this year, he's going to force the tag before he entertains any offers. Now the kicker, IMO, will be which tag he gets. I think the non-exclusive would mean the team has some doubt that they would be willing to offer Cousins enough of what he wants, and they're getting ready to at least make sure they don't leave the table empty-handed. The exclusive probably means it's all a formality - they plan on giving Cousins the max of what he wants this year and it's all about just working out the rest of the deal for the next few years. Best case scenario is that they already have a great deal worked out to where there would be no reason to wait until March 1st to tag and extend negotiations. That's what I hope happens, but probably the least likely at this point. |
The thought of going this route really just sucks the life out of me as a Redskin fan.
If RG3 was putting up the numbers that KC has he'd have his long term deal. Those dummies couldn't wait to give him 16 million, not thinking he'd get beat out.
Here's another depressing thought... imagine losing Cousins, Jackson, and Garçon all in one offseason? I don't see it happening but right now who knows. |

Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
I'd be more sad if we lost Garcon than if we lost Cousins. Not because of who is better or who is more important, he's just my favorite Redskins player and he has done everything asked of him. He deserves a nice contract from us. He's still playing well too. He's our Anquan Boldin.
I wish I could just ask Kirk...Do you want to be a Redskins but also want as much money as possible or are you trying to drive up your price so high you force their hand in letting you go because you don't really want to play here. Either way it looks like he's getting franchised and this whole thing could drag all the way out to July 15th. Ugh! |
Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
Yeah we won't know until July 15. The $ value the Redskins offer will eventually get out. If we hear that they're topping out at $18M and Cousins gets away from us the next year because of it, then we know who we'll be angry at. Likewise, if we hear that the offers are coming in $22M or $23M per year, and Cousins turns it down and ultimately gets away because of it, then we know who we'll be angry at.
I'll be more pissed at the 'Skins if they lowball him again than I would if Cousins just flat wants out. But I'd be pissed about either. Real pissed. |
Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
2 mottos as Skins fans:
1. There's always next year; and 2. Never easy This falls into the latter. There are 4 options at this point and I'm fine with 3 of them and 100% against 1. I'm OK with the non exclusive tag and hoping some team signs him, signing him to a long term deal and keeping him, or signing and trading him. I do not want him playing out the year for us on the franchise tag. |
