Perhaps I was wrong...
NFL.com Blogs Jason La Canfora « My main gripe with the hiring of Allen has been his complete lack of accumen in the personnel department and history as being nothing more than a yes-man in personnel-issues. In light of this report, Allen may not be too involved in those issues after all. This would seem to make sense, in light of his and Snyders cryptic comments on the issue during the press conference today. If JLC's sources are correct and hiring Allen is just the first step, and we bring in DeCosta to handle personnel matters, hire Shanahan to coach the team and run the offense, and retain Jerry Gray as DC, I will do a backflip. There's not much more Snyder could to make me happy.
honestly i really don't think any changes need to be made in the coaching staff. i know i'm probably in the minority but bringing in yet another coach means more change and possibly more set backs. make lewis the oc and let him call the plays and let zorn keep game planning and working with jc and i think we're on our way. i'd keep blache if he wants to stay, if not then hire grey as dc and let's keep things stable. |

Wouldn't it be interesting to see Gregg Williams get the job? Assuming he could forgive Dan, at the very least it was no secret that Cerrato didn't get along with GW. I still don't know who to put my money on, but this is definitely a glorious day. At the very least we will probably see our two first round picks go towards the O-Line given Allens history. He truly is the anti-Cerrato. |

Lets see how the offseason goes... Hopefully this isnt a move that we will regret in 2 years.

A ridiculous amount of OL acquired in the draft and free agency, including 5 in a single draft during 1998. He was strapped by Buc's management in terms of spending, a problem that you won't see with Snyder. On top of that he has experience, and success, while working with a meddlesome owner in Al Davis. In fact the last time the Raiders were relevant was when Allen was picking players. He also understands what it means to be a Redskin. He was also responsible for drafting guys in Tampa like Rudd, Trueblood, Davin Joseph, and Aquib Talib. On top of that theres probably a lot of guys drafted by Tampa that are currently solid role players, for example if you were looking over guys drafted in the late rounds by the Redskins like Doughty and Montgomery you would probably think they were wasted picks, when in reality they're solid role players for us. He also seems to be famous for drafting a lot of one year wonders like Cadillac and Michael Clayton. Of course he also acquired Joey Galloway when Clayton started to struggle. No idea what is going on with Aaron Sears but it seems like he's had one to many concussions. Still he was a very good player when he was healthy. The one thing I do know though is our problems along the Offensive Line are going to get fixed this offseason. Anything after that is gravy. |

I think what VC proved is that you can make good choices with what picks you have, and that's not enough. Allen will have good picks, and busts, probably at a higher rate, but we will have more picks, and less throwaway picks. I don't see him giving up a 2nd and 6th for example for that guy from Miami. In addition, and much more importantly, he will rebuild a healthy team environment, and will - i believe - not play cushy toes with the owner OR "special" players, at least not to the detriment of the team. (what goes on behind closed doors stays behind closed doors ;) ). Further, we will have a better respect and credibility around the team, something lacking under VC and that should indeed lead to a better future. If you just look at drafts VC could make a case for himself staying. But he failed at the totality of the EVPOFO or whatever he was. Bruce Allen seems to have proven that he is, at the least, capable of running a professional organization. I can live with that. |

So Shanahan (Mike and/or Kyle) is close to happening allegedly. One thing I wonder is this. Mike Shanahan wouldn't come here now as head coach because Zorn is still here and they wouldn't (I don't think) fire him with just three weeks to go. But...they could hire him now just as President. And then Head Coach later?

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Cerrato resigns (Bruce Allen hired as VP/GM) - merged
Why is Allen better then VC?
Easily....Allen picks players from the draft that are actually needed on the team. Plus he has decent scouts checking them out. VC has had crappy scouts and only picked Best Player Available. BPA is not a bad idea if your team has no significant needs but when you have glaring needs you have to pick for that position. |

Why is it that some people have to complain about everything? Vinny is gone, and this hiring is a start in the right direction. I could care less of what Bruce Allen's draft history is, this is a new start for him. When he was in Tampa he had a owner who didnt like to spend money for players, that is not a problem here. We all should be happy that Danny boy has decided to take a new approach on how to run this team. This is want all Redskins fans wanted to see, and it came true. I know we havent had a good run organization since he took over as owner, so hopefully this is a start in the right directions. As Redskins fans all we have is hope. |
