In 2011, Griffin completed 72 percent of his passes for 4,293 yards with 37 touchdowns and six interceptions. He has also rushed for 699 yards and 10 touchdowns. Bingo! It has to be taken in consideration that this is a rare, golden opportunity to land such superb talent. Either that or they opt to strenghten the team in others areas and take the tougher path at developing an average QB.

I never said "don't trade up to get RG III". My fear is that the price of the trade-up will be more than a team with as many needs as the Redskins can afford.

Someone here said to get him "at any cost". I got off the train LONG before we got to "any cost". Let's think about what "any cost" means:

Or maybe the Skins should bid even higher if necessary...?

Robert Griffin III will likely be a very good QB in the NFL and possibly a multi-time Pro Bowl player. But it is the cost of trading up that has to be weighed here because the Washington Redskins are not merely one player away from "greatness".

I think it is clear that there is a price worth paying and a price that is just too steep. Like you, I don't advocate getting him at any cost. But I also think that the Skins need to be willing to stretch the boundaries of what seems to be reasonable if it will get them a Franchise QB. In today's NFL, which is a pass first league, I just don't think you can expect to win a title without one.

We don't need to outbid Mike Ditka. We just need to outbid other reasonable, competent GM's.

This is as good as any to explain my basic thesis concerning how the "next years class is always better" theory works in a nutshell. (BTW this isn't directed at you Bushead, I'm just using your post to segway and further my propaganda)

Every year you get a bunch of QB's who play like first round QB's. A lot of those QB's are juniors.

So when it comes time to declare for the draft the QB's take cues from each other and make business decisions on weather or not they can get picked high enough to justify declaring early.

Someone deciding to go back to school like Barkley leads to a guy like RGIII declaring. Landry Jones decides to go back to school so Tyler Wilson strongly considers declaring right up until the last minute. Wondering if he can be a top 10 pick, then decides if he goes back to school he can be a top 5 pick.

Afterwards the QB's return for their senior years and a good amount don't put up as good numbers (Jake Locker), or do, but their flaws become more widespread and published in the media (Tim Tebow/Matt Leinart). Other guys get injured (Sam Bradford).

Then to make matters worse a bunch of Junior QB's start having breakthrough seasons so people start to list all those QB's for the upcoming draft assuming that they'll all declare, then when about half return to school the class is viewed as weaker then expected and expectations are placed on next years class.

The basic formula is this. Long list of QB's that includes juniors likely to return to school + QB's not playing up to expectations during senior year or exposing flaws = Next years class will be better.

We mortgage 2 years of draft picks for RGIII, so what! It's solidarity at the position for the next 5-10 years. I'm okay with that.

If we are able to pick a few key positions in FA like OG, OT, CB, FS, & ILB then trade away our 1st & 2nd this year & next years 1st & 3rd if that's what it takes.

I would not trade more than that. In my humble opinion anything more than that is too much for any 1 player. I agree RG3 will most likely be a "franchise qb". What I'm saying is is sign a decent qb free agent then we won't as pressured to sell the farm for 1 player.

If we mortgage the draft and use FA INTELLIGENTLY. No monster contracts, but bring in a #1 receiver at as cheap as possible, unless were convinced we have our guy, in which case throw some money at him. Bring in a secondary receiver like braylon edwards to compete in camp (a lot better than stalworth or stokley as competition) and then we can spend what is left in the draft on our offensive line. Next years draft can center around cornerbacks and replacing fletch.

I agree, I've stated this in another post, we have to have a contingency plan we have to sign a FA QB otherwise we will be over paying to trade up. I would like to sit a #6 and see if RGIII falls to us. Nobody expected SackPo to fall to us but he did.

As I've basically been saying before. RGIII is Michael Vick, if Michael Vick had an IQ in the 140 range, was accurate, and wasn't interested in partying all the time. Sure the price to get him will be steep but considering the payoff of 10 plus possible years of stability at the games most important position, not to mention an actual game changer that will strike fear into the hearts of defenses everywhere, well it's hard to be frugal.

Honestly, guys like Landry, Orakpo, Kerrigan, and Williams are nice, but they're supporting pieces. Without a QB we're wasting their prime years.

I think that RGIII can have the type of impact that Ovechkin had on the Capitals.

I know I'd rather be there too. Just messin'... but it does get frustrating to be in the playoffs and go nowhere each year.
