Ryan Clark is looking more and more likely. Not my first choice but we have minimal options.

RYAN CLARK Since it began the player-safety crackdown in October 2010, the NFL has legislated Clark’s strengths as a player out of the game. A physical, big-hitting safety who was an intimidating presence in the deep-middle of the field, Clark cannot even attempt to play as he did in helping the team win a lot of games during his first four-plus seasons here. Now an unrestricted free agent who will be 35 in October, Clark would appear to be a guy the Steelers will move on without. The way the game is legislated now, free safeties are more valuable if they’re ball-hawks instead of big-hitters. Clark has obviously seen the writing on the wall himself. That was clear when Clark spent much of last off-season in Bristol, Connecticut working for ESPN. Clark is a free agent, and I wouldn’t expect to see him playing this year. But if it happens it happens.. |
You need pressure on the QB to have a good secondary. We had nothing last year. I think the DL moves will make our pee wee secondary at least JV status.
Exactly. The Hatcher pick up not only improves the dline push up the middle that was our biggest problem on D, but should really help our secondary - which appeared to be the biggest problem on D. We could have had a couple pro bowlers at safety last year and they still would have been in trouble with the quick pass. This move imo has made FA a success - we didnt break the bank, and we filled a huge hole with one guy. He is 32 but has only been a starter since 2011. He is in great shape for A 32 year old. Should have three primo years left at least. I love this move. Curious as to what his guaranteed money is though. |
Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
I think what the front office is doing is brilliant. They're using free agency for what it's intended for: depth mostly and only signing the big name when it's affordable and a wise decision. Next, they'll use the draft to actually build their championship team.
A lot of you guys old enough to remember should remember that the team that was built during the early 80's - the team that went on to become Super Bowl champions - was a team labeled as misfits and no-names. Sounds familiar! |

Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
Saw an interesting video on cbssports.com this morning. NFL analyst Pete Prisco listed his top four remaining FA's. They were Dominique Rogers-Cromartie, Jason Hatcher, Walter Thurmond, and Zach Strief. Other than DRC, who is out of the question financially, this is basically my shopping list.
We just signed Hatcher and Thurmond is us visiting today. IMO, we shouldn't let Thurmond get out of town without signing with us, nor should we waste another minute before trying to sign Strief. I do have one more player on my list: Chris Clemons. His market seems to be slow, so we might be able to snatch him up with a cap friendly deal. |

Free agent CB Brandon Browner cancelled his visit with the Redskins.
Browner is believed to still be up in the Boston area trying to finalize a deal to join Darrelle Revis and the Patriots. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport initially reported Browner was signing a two-year deal with New England. Browner's agent vehemently denied the report, but we have no reason not to believe a deal will get done. |

honestly I was thinking the same thing ... this signing would be about 8 damn seasons too late... I just don't think this would be a smart way to spend money for us ... I just don't.. |

Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
Do we really want Browner? I could pass on this dude

Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
If we sign only one more guy in the frenzy period, signing an average safety would upgrade us more than signing another average corner.

I'm not sure how good Browner is coming off suspension/injury, but before that he held his own opposite Sherman. If he still wants to visit here I wouldn't mind bringing him in, but it would have to be a low risk contract considering his suspension. |
Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
Walter Thurmond cancelled his visit with us.

I hope he gets hit with a flying ice cream truck |
Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
Alot of free agents out there we just need to improve the roster and not get too caught up in winning the offseason.
