Re: WFT's Off-Season Thread
JMO we should of let Scherff test the market.

Re: WFT's Off-Season Thread
Even if no more cut, some real bargains for the patient in free agency. Interesting question I don't know the answer to, do you sign a FA WR 75% as good as the elite for 40% of the price?
To me if you do that you may as well keep Sims and Sims, and maybe group Harmon with those 2 (he's still a relative unknown quantity). To my mind if S. Sims wants too much then we let him walk and maybe bring in a 2nd tier FA to replace him like for like (Davis type?), but that could be a zero sum game at best. More like, we go after and land one of the big targets, or draft a #1a/#2 WR then pick up a 2nd tier guy in the lower rounds. I doubt we get Robinson or Golladay, as mentioned elsewhere they're likely to go where there's a QB. But Fuller or Samuel would be good #2's to Scary. |
Re: WFT's Off-Season Thread
I don't have a big problem with tagging Scherff. It's a one year rental while we have chance to draft in a replacement. It might be nice to get a trade offer, but I doubt it, and I don't see along term contract coming in the next few weeks unless he agrees something more cap friendly; why would he?

Unless they plan on making a massive FA splash and try to be a contender, tagging Scherff makes zero sense IMO

Re: WFT's Off-Season Thread
Yes I am OK with tagging him, I wonder which tag it is? Will they let him search out other offers, in exchange for some day 2 draft picks. Apparently both sides wanted a deal, so someone is fibbing. Annoys me that it reduces our cap flexibility un-necessarily. With all the Gs that are going to be free agents the market is going to be depressed. Wonder if ex-Carolina guy, Norwell?, who signed for Jax and may be released because of his large salary may be on Ron's radar.

Re: WFT's Off-Season Thread
Obviously the coaches really like Scherff. I don't have a problem with this, my best guess is the coaches doesn't want to risk losing Scherff so they tagged him to gain more time to negotiate the new contract for him.
Not sure how many teams want to trade for a guard making 18 million and will be a FA again in 1 year.
What round pick would you accept for him?
If a trade were to happen, I'm pretty sure both Scherff and the team would do a new deal. And I don't know about compensation, but anything better than a comp pick would be a win. |
Re: WFT's Off-Season Thread
If I'm BS unless I get a ton of guaranteed $$ in a LT offer I'm playing under the tag this year, collecting my $18M guaranteed, and hitting free agency next year for another bite at the apple. I think we just blew our shot at getting a long term deal done.

I just don't understand paying a guard 18 mil

Yep. Kirk Cousins part 2. Very disappointing. |

Agreed. He doesn't owe Ron shit, so why would he sign anything less than a monster contract ? |

Envoyé de mon SM-J320FN en utilisant Tapatalk
Why would they not try to be a contender? Of course it all revolves around what happens at QB, but I think that's the point - be a contender. Tagging Scherff isn't the most popular or ideal scenario, but next to McLaurin he is currently your best player on offense. He solidifies that right side, making Moses and Roullier better, and was the best player on the 6th best offensive line in the NFL. Sure, a long term deal would have been better (and still would be), but I don't think they could just let him walk. They could still get a deal done that reduces this year's cap hit, but it takes both sides. He may be happy taking his 18mil and walking next year. Unfortunately, that's the game... |

Re: WFT's Off-Season Thread
I guess at this point you hope to get one more quality season out of him, and he walks next year going on age 31 having played his best 7 seasons here. For Brandon with the potential for a big bump in the cap next year he has little incentive to get a long term deal done now that he has $18M in his pocket.
