Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
LT - I think the surest way is to draft your own in the first maybe second round, if you want an anchor for the next 8 years or so. A large percent of the top tier LTs are 1-2 round picks.
FA it seems you can get an aging vet as a 1 year stop gap. Maybe you get lucky like the Rams when they signed a 35 year old Whitworth in FA in 2017 for 3/66M ... and hes been a stud for them, played in like 47 of 48 games. Now hes 38 and they have his replacement, a 3R pick from a few years ago. Tough call for the Rams, to turn that offense over to a relative untested LT .. but Whit is 38 and they have cap ramifications. |

The Skins are after Conklin? What a pleasant surprise! |
Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
That sounds like pure journalistic speculation, I thought Conklin was a RT anyway, and not a great one, apparently always needed help in pass protection .... there are two things about free agency, no FA OL is cheap, and very few are actually any good.

Dang, Id be all for Conklin. A young solid T, the only issue would be his transition for RT to LT .. im guessing he perhaps played LT when Lewan was suspended for PEDs. Conklins do not hit FA very often. |
Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
Resign Donald Penn fpr 2020 and draft a future replacement for Trent with the 2nd we get for him in a trade.

ya know....I think this is the right answer. its a whole lotta nothing in FA at LT outside of AC from Indy who still might retire. I rather pay Penn 5-6 with multiple draft picks at Tackle as the plan. |

That's a good point. I know we have a number of needs, but a lot of those have positions which are strong in FA. It might be a good idea to draft 2-3 tackles and see who develops. |

Agreed. OT seems to be a position where players need a couple of seasons to be NFL ready. That's why I like resigning Penn too, this team is young (defense, receiving corps, QB ...) and needs to be looking towards the future, so I like the cheap gap OT allowing you to draft and develop TW's and Moses' replacements vs signing/trading for an expensive vet right now. |

His twitter does a good job of laying out all the cuts and tags happening recently. Among the road blocks is the Skins‘ compensation request. |

Look...this is real simple. 1. We aren't taking the Comp pick or lower if he returns and leaves next in FA next year. That doesn't make sense for us. 2. If Trent is truly a 20 mil per year talent Tackle, the compensation for these isnt just a couple mid round picks. |
Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
Skins are likely asking for a 1st right now, teams are scoffing and saying two 3rds which is BS. A 2nd gets it done IMO. A 2nd in the top half of the round I should say.

Mike Garafolo reported Redskins is asking a 2nd round pick for Williams. https://twitter.com/MikeGarafolo/status/1238538719474397184 |
Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
Not getting a reasonable trade offer is a good thing to happen, IMO. Williams and his agent will then see first hand that he just isn't worth what he's asking. He reports and plays for the $12.5 million called for in his contract and plays well so he can increase his value for next year. We trade him at the deadline to a contender in desperate need of a tackle.
