Re: Report: Shanahan to DC done deal
for what it's worth, my father-in-law worked in the NFL for 30 years... he knows bruce and synder (and pretty much anyone that's been in the NFL for years) and he thinks that the bruce allen hire is great... says he's a stand-up guy, very smart, very personable, an excellent GM -- the kind of guy you want to work for/with...
he's not too sure about shanahan being a good choice for us as a coach and thinks allen and shanny working together is "strange"... i'm trying to get him to see if he can find out some inside info from old sources... "i'm retired" is all i've got at this point...
I thought it a weird combo also but compared to who's possibly out there at GM and considering age Allen may be one of the best. Plus he has worked with HC's who run the WCO. So I actually can see why Shanny wanted to be paired up with Allen. |
Re: Report: Shanahan to DC done deal
LOL> I had this nice post set up with links and everything and my computer crashed. LOL.
So in a nutshell I was going to say... M. Shanahan gets named HC, he brings in his son who already holds the title of OC/QB coach. Kubiac might get fired after the season depending on how well he does but he has 4yrs now with the Texans. I wonder when his contract is up? Can he bail out of the contract and come to the Skins to work for Shanahan again? Alex Gibbs was Shanahans OL coach. He's only on his 2nd yr there so I would guess he would have more then a 2yr contract. Could he bail and come to the Skins? or do we have to give him some fancy title? Alex has a brother David Gibbs who coach's DB's. I'm sure if one comes the other most likely would also but I think his brother only has 1yr with the Texans. So this is another person we would have to give a fancy title to if pulled from the Texans to be with family. Beyond that I don't know who else would be with us. I assume M.Shanahan would bring most of his old coaching crew if he could. Are any still available or are they tied up with other teams? Besides Slowick who we know is currently helping Shanahan put the staff together ....supposedly. |

Kubiac would be almost a coup for the Skins.

He's sitting in a HCing positon. Rumor was if he didn't win his last 2 games he was gone. Winning puts him at 8-8 I think. But his HCing stint has not been great. He's been .500 or below. Like Norv I wonder if he's a better OC then a HC? I wonder if he's had enough of the HCing situation and would he be willing to just walk away from it to take a lesser roll with us and Shanny, perhaps Senior OC? I don't know if a fancy name is required since he's HC already or if he can buy out his contract or if he can simply say he quits and come to us since he's good buddies with Shanny. I can tell you it would be a huge coup and we basically would be robbing the Texans of their staff forcing them to get a new HC and staff. Atleast for the offensive side of the ball. |

"he's a nice boy, but... shouldn't be a coordinator..." |

Neither do I. I think if Kubiac joins the party here we will be fine but I do worry about K.Shanahan being OC. He has not shown a lot down in Houston. They do have a nice passing game which we lack but our running game was better then theirs, but thats not saying much. I think Kubiac was the master mind in Denver and I believe some people are meant to be OC's and not HC's.... ie; Norv. If Kubiac does not join the party then I hope Shanahan has someone up his sleeve who he can bring in as Asst. OC to assist his son with the offense. |

The Texans were ranked 3rd in offense last year and are 5th this year with Shanahan as the primary play caller. 17th in scoring last year and 11th this year. Their running game hasn't been very good, that's true but I wonder if that's personnel or scheme. Slaton was good last year but got a case of fumblitis this year before getting hurt and their depth was pretty pathetic. I'm sure Mike will bring in someone with a lot of experience to support Kyle in his role. |

Re: Report: Shanahan to DC done deal

Shanahan a $50 million deal?
Guy better deliver the goods with a contract like that or at least stay around long enough to get it turned around. I hope Snyder put incentives to stay around in it if this is true. |
Re: Report: Shanahan to DC done deal
It's not my money but I hope he's worth as much as Snyder thinks he is.
