Who said it didnt? I sure didnt.

Like I said in a previous post I think the player needs to weigh whether renegotiating and staying is the best thing for his career. If it is then reneg, if not then tell the team sorry. The NFL is a meat grinder and players are chewed-up and spit out fast with, imo, little regard and compensation by the teams so they need to get as much as they can as fast as they can.
I actually agree with you. My issue is that there's a double standard if people give Brunell a pass while other guys like TO or LaVar get torn down for getting paid or wanting to get paid. It's not that much of a different and that's what I'm trying to get people to acknowledge. If he chooses not to restructure, it's a similar situation.

Maybe not you specifically, but 90% of the people on this board will torch any player who wants to make money or doesn't want to restructure. Honestly, I think if an owner is stupid enough to give a 34 year old quarterback a seven year, 35 million dollar contract, it's his own fault. My only point is, if everyone else gets torched, Brunell shouldn't get a free pass.

I could be wrong on this, but I think the difference is that TO had a contract that he wanted tore up and redone. LaVar alleged that $6 million in bonus money was owed him that was a mistake (misunderstanding?) on his agent's part. MB isn't asking for more money or a new deal, just what's on his contract.

But as I said before I think his posturing at the moment is all part of the bigger CBA picture.

Like most of us said when that deal was made what was Danny thinking??? If the CBA is not done and we have to cut players 06 is lost. So keep the best for 07 and 34 year old QB's don't fit the need. I guess Campbell will start sooner then later! :coach:

hey loyalty in the NFL is rare. Especially for a guy that is 36 years old, probably playing for his last team in his career, he isn't going to have the chance at making $4million a year. Plus if he is cut, the team eats 5+million, so why rework your deal? For the betterment of the team, if these guys were worried about the team, wouldn't you think they would play for the minimum every year, and just play for the signing bonuses. He reworked his deal last year because of the season he had, awful. he comes back plays like a probowler, his agent isn't going to let him rework the deal.

Re: Brunell Reluctant to Renegotiate Deal
Heres why I dont understand this.... why wouldn't you renegoiate the deal? Everything as far as base salaries can be gaurnteed after this season, so why wouldnt you renegotiate it and get all that gaurnteed money? Especially when a guy like Brunell will probaboly get cut within the next couple years anyways?
As I, and That Guy, have stated, it's because restructuring your deal makes you a good candidate to get cut in the future. By converting a base salary into a bonus, you aren't cutting the guy's pay, you are simply deferring some of the cap space to subsequent seasons. By deferring some of the cap space to subsequent seasons, you make yourself more costly in the future. Making yourself more costly in the future is a bad idea when you are nearing the end of your career.

It only makes sense to restructure when a team has more to gain from cutting you now than keeping you. That is not the case with Brunell, who is more expensive to cut than keep.

You are right loyality in the NFL is rare. The second a player is useless to the team he is gone no matter how great he was or how much he helped the team to win. Emmitt Smith and Jerry Rice are the poster boys for the lack of loyality in the NFL.
