Re: News of the AXE possibly droppin on VINNY.
I don't see how everything should go back to Vinny... if anything we should look at the top of the organization. Everything starts with Snyder and works it's way down. Let's stop with this nonsense of placing all the blame with Vinny anytime something doesn't work out.
Let's keep in mind that Gibbs is the team president and he is the one that could easily make the call of let's drop Vinny and get a GM. Gibbs is the one that is comfortable with this current setup... blaming Vinny for everything is just silly and demonstrates a clear lack of understanding of how the decision making of this front office works and why it is set up the way it is. |

Vinny has been w/the danny a long time now & obviously has kept him on the payroll & high up the chain of command. Even if Gibbs was unhappy w/Vinny, would he have that much pull to get him fired. I know a lot of people will suppose that the Danny will do anything Gibbs says, but it's still DS' team & he isn't a hands off owner. I certainly agree that blaming Vinny has become way too fashionable for skins fans, guess he's an easy scapegoat and that its harder to complain about the danny since he brought Gibbs back. This season will really be a test for this front office. If we can't win in Gibbs' 4th year back w/this vet roster I would think there would be major changes. |

If Marty got Vinny fired, do you really think Gibbs couldn't do the same??

Yes, because 1) that was part of Marty's deal; he wouldn't take the job unless he had complete control. The Danny couldn't stand that after a year & went after the ole ball coach & brought Vinny back. 2) Gibbs may be hesitant to push for Vinny's firing if Vinny & Danny are really that close (in working relationship that is). It might open up a huge can of worms for Gibbs whereby the Danny could retort that he's already spent great sums on Gibbs' assistants & players, & that his investment hasn't paid off. I think it could be a very delicate balance between the 3. |
Re: News of the AXE possibly droppin on VINNY.
Snyder has given Gibbs just about anything he has wanted, I really think if Gibbs went to him and said we need a new front office structure and your boy Vinny needs to go Snyder would listen. Snyder is hands on to a point, but I don't seem him overruling Gibbs on anything football related.

Re: News of the AXE possibly droppin on VINNY.
After this season it will bear itself out. If we're succcesful it will be business as usual for the next couple of years. If we have another losing season I can see Gibbs taking the president only role, bringing in a strong GM to replace Vinny and making a strong push for Cowher. Gibbs is smart enough to realize when something is NOT working and since he has had some success and is open to change and compromise for the good of the organization. While Vinny is not the only one at fault he is the 'face' of our personnel problems. You can't fire the owner.

Yup. If Gibbs wanted him gone, he'd be gone. More likely is that, if Gibbs really felt that Vinny wasn't doing the job he is supposed to be doing, Vinny would then become Snyder's "Quality Control Assistant In Charge Of Jersey Numbers At Minicamp" (or some such extraneous appendage - e.g. Don Breaux and Joe Bugel). |

I think it could be a very delicate balance between the 3.[/quote] Remember we had a guy by the name of Joe Mendes who left becasue he didn't get along w/ Vinny. If I remember he lost a power struggle w/Vinny. Bottom line is Vinny isn't going anywhere. He seems like a total ass kisser to me. If it wasn't for Snyder he wouldn't have a job. He has basically been here before the ownership change. Remember, he was hiding out at one of the hotels near Dulles Airport becasue John Cooke wouldn't let him inside Redskins Park. Has anyone heard this story about Dan and Vinny..... This was during one of Norv's years when the team was having problems w/ kickers. Snyder was all pissed and went out on the practice field and tried to kick FG's becasue he thought it was a real wasy thing to do. Guess who was his holder? Vinny. Snyder and Vinny kicking FG's on the practice field. This was reported ( I believe ) in the Post right after Casserly left. |
