Re: Disgusting display at Talladega!!!
It's hysterical how Stewart haters constantly say how wreckless he is, or how much of a whiner he is. He's portrayed as a bad boy, so naturally any time he goes on a tangent, he's gonna get air time. And while a lot of times he's just full of piss and wind, there are times where he has valid points.
And he's no more wreckless than anyone else out there. There have been plenty of times where 2 guys are duking it out for first place, when one spins out the other. It's not just Stewart...and while I don't condone some of his actions, don't make him out to be the scapegoat. Can you tell I'm a Stewart fan? And while I can't stand Gordon, he's a helluva driver. He didn't deserve his beer can shower...but it's funny and definitely not surprising. That's just how passionate #3 fans are. |
i'm not sure i can 100% agree with you. when you say "bigger", are you implying "more popular"? if so then i would agree nascar is bigger then hockey. nascar is fairly close to pro basketball but definately moving ahead. baseball, i would say, is still bigger then nascar though. nascar is definately gaining ground in it's popularity, there is just still to many people out there that love baseball, plus baseball gets more exposure on espn and other sports stations.
Those weren't my opinions..it was an article either ESPN did or SI. (Can't remember which one). The only sport bigger is football. You talk about exposure...you do realize that EVERY NASCAR event is televised right? |

Sorry man, I didn't perceive the Philadelphia fans as "passionate" when they threw batteries at J.D.Drew, or any sport, at any time when someone threw something at another athlete / person. It's not passion, it's stupidity. Maybe I am a little more sensitive than others cause I played college sports, and had an incident of this, but let me tell you, there aren't many things moe scary than a barage of crap being thrown at you from wild fans. It's unacceptable in any fashion. If you don't like what's going on, then get off your fat ass and do something about it ON THE FIELD AS A COMPETITOR. You are only a spectator, and you are there to spectate...ie:WATCH. It was a disgusting display, and I'm sure JR is shaking his head at these rubes. |

You talk about exposure...you do realize that EVERY NASCAR event is televised right?
yea but every sport that we're talking about is televised. i'm talking about sports news in general about each sport, like for instance, on espn they have "baseball tonight" or "nfl live" stuff like that. i just don't hear to much about nascar other than the race itself, wereas baseball or football and even basketball news is consistantly dominating the sports channels. |

Well we do have NASCAR Now every weeknight at 6:30p on ESPN2, plus NASCAR Now Sunday Mornings and NASCAR Now Sundays at Midnight, not to mention NASCAR Coundtown-our prerace show. But if you don't know about it, obviously we're not doing our job right |

I say most, because you will have those boneheaded that will never admit they are wrong. But, not even Richard Petty has fans as dedicated and loyal as Dale Earnhardt fans are. They are in a class amongst themselves, and from their display on Sunday, that isn't much class at this moment. However, it's quite easy for any fan to get swept up in the moment. How many times have you gotten disgusted at what the Skins have done on the field? How many times have you wanted to throw a remote, a beer can, a recliner through your TV Set? There's a thin line between thinking and doing, and while most are able to calm down a notch and just think, others do. And while you said you are perhaps more sensitive from being in a situation similar to Gordon, put yourself in the shoes of a irate fan for just a second. I certainly do no condone what the fans did on Sunday, or Philly, the Meadowlands (poor Santa Claus), or old fans who threw crap at Ty Cobb did, but in a sense I can understand it. Because it's not that easy to just get off your fat ass and do something about it. If it were, more people would do it. But with emotions running high, people lashed out. Now, you may not react the same way, but to each their own. |

Soccer is a huge company priority for us. Plus I don't work on soccer or ESPN2programming at this time of day. And we have certain contractual obligtations, and so on. |

why is soccer a huge company priority ? is there really a true soccer audience? if there was it would seem espn would air those games and not to mention at a different time slot. how many people do you think are sitting down at the tv watching soccer at 3:30 in the afternoon ? i'm not trying to rag on you or rag on espn but it just doesn't make sense to me. |

This would be a long and potentially boring post. If you're really really interested I'll PM you. But there are a lot of factors as to why it's a huge company priority, why we air games plus support programming, why we have some soccer in the afternoon, etc. |

I used to have season tickets to the Red Sox (my brother owns them now) and there have been plenty of occasions where someone could have gotten something thrown at them, but no one did. Why? Cause they / we are respectful of the athletes. We are there to watch them, not participate other than with our mouths. Even then, you have a responsibility to be a good human being. There is absolutely, 100%, no excuse for behaving poorly. You are a human over everything, and you should know that throwing something is wrong. There have been plenty of times that I wanted to punch my old boss, but I never did...it's called restraint. If you follow every instinct, you are no better than an animal. |

Soccer is the #1 sport on the planet. While the USA is not a HUGE fan, we are a casual fan...outside of the US, it's the largest sport in the world bar none. |
