Actually, I thought it should have gone to Marques Colston. :D

I can see him over Jones-Drew. RB is one of the easiest positions for rookies. QB and WR are much hard to adjust to so quickly. |
Re: ROY re-hashed!
Plus, Colston killed in fantasy football for me on all of my teams. :D

I could agree with that, except that Colston completey died at the end of the season. He caught only 16 balls for 169 yards and 1 td in his last 5 games. That's an average of only 3.2 catches a game and 33.8 yards per game. So when the going got tough, Colston disappeared. |
Re: ROY re-hashed!
For my money, Vince Young deserved it hands down.

Hey, Vince Young didn't play in every game either...he was behind KERRY COLLINS on the depth chart (who had JUST been signed) to start the year! :D He had 7 catches for 84 yards against us in Week 15 and scored a TD in Week 16. 1038 yards and 8 TDs is good for any receiver, let alone an unknown rookie from Hostra who started the year behind Joe Horn on the depth chart. |

RB is one of the easiest positions for rookies. QB and WR are much hard to adjust to so quickly.
This is a good point, but while I agree that QB and WR are two of the toughest positions to adjust to on the field from college to the NFL, receivers who are young and struggling to adapt can still put up yardage numbers if they get enough PT and the QB throws them enough passes. Here's what I'm saying: We've seen enough of Jones-Drew to be reasonably sure he's going to be a great runner in this league. We haven't seen Colston do anything that most other receiver couldnt do with ample oppertunities. Thus the conclusion is that we don't know if Colston is ever going to be anything more than a glorified slot receiver. We'll know more after this season. |

Then get off the field if you can't perform. Either you play cause you're healthy, or you sit cause your injured. Either way, he played and produced those numbers. I'm not saying he sucked or anything...he had a very good rookie season. I'd even vote for him over Young...just not Jones-Drew. |
Re: ROY re-hashed!
We can pick apart Jones-Drew too, look at some of his more stellar games:
9/10: 2 carries, 8 yards 9/18: 2 carries, 4 yards 10/1: 3 carries, 3 yards 10/22: 8 carries, 10 yards 11/12: 3 carries, 11 yards These are 5 games where he was a complete non-factor in the running game. Two of those games were against Houston who weren't exactly a run stopping powerhouse. And another point, he didn't even top the 1000 yard mark for the season, I haven't done any research on this but I'd be willing to bet very few RBs if any have ever won ROY without running for 1000. |

Jones Drew was the back up and produced almost 1k in rushing yards, and had THE HIGHEST YPC in all the league and 16 td's. Those are eye popping numbers, something that the other contenders don't have. Most of the time we agree on subjects, but I have a hunch we will always argue about Young. So I guess we will just need to agree to disagree. |
Re: ROY re-hashed!
You know who had a great rookie year? LT Marcus McNeil of the Chargers
While of course I feel Young is overrated, and this thread does seem to have that "theme", my intent is to point out how great Jones-Drew is. I don't know if you would recall, but before he was drafted I said this kid reminds me of Barry Sanders, and I stick to that. I think Jones Drew got skrewed.
Why not just start a thread that read Jones Is a "Fun Player To Watch" then people would have commented only on Jones and not VY. VY is going to be a good QB in this league and if you compare his number to Peyton's first year they are about the same. I'm not saying that he will ever be a Peyton but his numbers for his first year was not that bad and he didi find ways to win games. |
