Re: Cowboys or Giants: Who do you want to win?
Got it. In your world, history has no bearing on the present. I said it was a stretch. I am merely looking outside the obvious for something to give me hope. Sorry for bringing it up, but isn't it the experts that say the teams with the best chance are the ones who play well in December?
You are correct, those teams are not the same as the ones on the field right now. Alot has changed and they are the two best teams in the NFC. We shouldn't even finish the season or take the field agaist those guys because they have already won the division and made the playoffs. No reason to be optimistic about anything right now, because it is too much of a stretch. Come on, I am making a prediction, a very bold prediction based on previous observations. That is all. Seriously though, conventional wisdom says that -right now NY and Dallas are very solid football teams, and their previous records mean nothing. I understand, but I however, am not conventional.
SSG Wow, you really are angry aren't you? I didn't say there isn't any reason to be optimistic. If you look at my previous posts, I think you'll find that I believe the Skins can still win the division. That's optimistic. I appreciate your opinion and your optimism, I was just saying that I don't think the previous melt downs will have any bearing on the outcome of this year. |
Re: Cowboys or Giants: Who do you want to win?
Yeah, the goal is to win the division, but at a certain point let's be realistic.
In order for us to win the division two things have to happen: Dallas has to pretty much fall apart for the second half of the season, and the Skins have to kick it in to high gear. Are both those things happening simultaneously impossible? No, of course not. It is, however, highly improbable, given what we know about the first half of the season, that both of those events will occur simultaneously.
Dallas doesn't have to fall apart, we simply have to beat them twice and beat the Giants in NY. That is all I think if you want to talk about being realistic, let's not hand the division to Dallas after 8 games. |
Re: Cowboys or Giants: Who do you want to win?
But we'll be behind two different teams, instead of being tied with one of them, which is what we'll be if the Giants lose and we beat the Eagles.
if the giants lose and we win we will still be behind them and 2 out of first place. |
Re: Cowboys or Giants: Who do you want to win?
Dallas 38 NYG 34 would love to see dallas lose, cant stand them doing good.
|
Re: Cowboys or Giants: Who do you want to win?
Here is the perfect scenario....both of these teams had their winning spurts lasts year, and then faded late in the season...if the Giants can beat the Cowboys, maybe then they'll lose at Detroit the following week, and maybe we'll beat the Cowboys the following week and then guess who's tied for 1st??? But it all has to start with the Giants beating the cowboys!

Nobody is "handing" Dallas anything. We're simply stating what we think is most likely. The 'Chips still have to go out and play. Certainly, the season isn't over, and maybe the G-strings and the 'Chips will get a taste of the kind of injuries the Redskins have had to deal with and the odds will even out. It's just an opinion. I think this is Dallas' year to win the NFC East. If you don't and you think the Skins will win the division crown, then more power to you. I guess that's why I'm not in the Kool Aid crowd. |
Re: Cowboys or Giants: Who do you want to win?
i say its about time for dallas to take a nose dive and the gmen as well giants win and we get our pasing offemse on the mend
|
Re: Cowboys or Giants: Who do you want to win?
I don't care so much who wins. The fact that both teams will be beating the shit out of eachother for 60 min of football is good for us. Romo will take some shots this weekend too against the Gmen pass rush.
Does anyone else think this is the game of the week? |

Actually, I was responding to mheisig who said "barring some massive collapse, Dallas is taking the division hands down." That, to me, sounds like handing the division to Dallas. And my counterpoint was simply that if we beat Dallas twice and take care of business otherwise, it won't take a "massive collapse", and they won't run away with it. That is all. |

What about this Redskins team tells you they can take two from the best team in the NFC? Those of us that think that Dallas should win are just being realistic, and realistically, Washington's best chance at the playoffs is a wild card. Dallas beating the Giants and Washington beating Philly will be the best scenario. Then Washington only has to outplay the Giants in the second half of the season, rather than the Giants AND Cowboys. |
Re: Cowboys or Giants: Who do you want to win?
I'm hoping for the first tie since the Steelers and Falcons in 2002.

Let's pack up and go home now. I mean if we can't beat Dallas, what makes you think we can beat the Giants in New York? How about a little optimism as opposed to what you call "realism", because realistically, anybody can beat anybody in this league. All the redskins offense needs to do is start averaging about 7-10 more points a game and there aren't many teams out there that can beat them. |
Re: Cowboys or Giants: Who do you want to win?
Death to both is an acceptable answer. I really think my hatred for the giants is almost equal to my hatred for the cowboys. New yorkers bring the worst out of me, except for you kornheiser although I had my moments during the first philly-skins game on MNF. For our postseason hopes it is better for the cowboys to win so we have a better shot at that wildcard. I won't be watching much of the game anyway I'll be bbq'ing after the game trying to sober up for the drive home from FedEx. Maybe I will get home in time to catch Umenyiora decapitate Romo. I guess I'm rooting for injuries when its all said and done

That's a flat out fairy tale. Washington hasn't been able to do that since Gibbs returned. And I think I'm being optimistic by saying they'll make the playoffs. This team is by no means dominant, and they are going to have to win a lot of tough games just to grab the wild card. |

I don't think we're that far off. Really, it's just a matter of turning these drives that end in field goals into drives that end in touchdowns. Not an easy task but it can be done. The challenge is really to get the passing game going, which I think won't fully happen until they get McCardell (who at this time I think may be their best receiver) more involved. This weekend is huge for us, but it's too early to hand the division to the Cowboys. Look at the Giants last year. They were 6-2 at this point and then barely made the playoffs at 8-8. Not likely the Cowboys will collapse like that, but as long as we take care of our business I think we can stay in the thick of things. But then, I guess that's why I'm not part of the Tylenol laced with cyanide crowd around here. |
