Re: Why dont the Redskins use audibles?
I think it's confidence. You could sense it in his press conference yesterday also. Kind of "Ok, now we've seen what this offense can do with Campbell running point and we're about to surprise some people"
Of course, they need to start winning. But the Redskins have been hovering around 5-5 so many times only to finish 11-5, 10-6. This team reminds me of the teams back in 1989 and 1990.
If it is confidence, I think the way the O-Line was able to hold up against a strong front 7 has as much to do with it as anything. They didn't play a perfect game, but on those last two drives they were pretty close. Heyer is solid. Whatever he lacks in experience and technique he makes up for with athleticism, strength, and a kind of street fighting mentality. If you watch the second half of that game again, you can see why Bugel fell in love so quickly. I agree that the Redskins are poised to go on a run. They just need to get that first win against Tampa. |
Re: Why dont the Redskins use audibles?
While taking questions from callers on Redskins Radio on Tuesday, Gibbs was informed Campbell had expressed satisfaction that an audible he called led to a 35-yard completion to Moss (he made a dazzling one-handed catch) in the third quarter against Dallas. Gibbs sounded displeased that Campbell had discussed team strategy and told the show's hosts: "Jason shouldn't have said that. Kind of stupid on Jason's part." And Gibbs, a few seconds later, added, "Keep your trap shut, Jason."
But Gibbs wasn't upset with Campbell. "I was joking," Gibbs said after practice yesterday. "That's happened to me a bunch. One of the bad things about being a coach is, after a while when you see all of that and it happens to you, you get so defensive and you pull in so far. I told Jason I was joking."
washingtonpost.com Sounds like they're using audibles now. |
