Why don't you guys just close this? There's really nowhere for this to go but down?
Agreed. And I hope my post at the start of all this wasn't interpreted as such. Because it wasn't meant in that way.
Well I was very surprised by your post and took it that way. Just go back and read it then maybe edit it out. |

Re: Patriot Helmet Stickers
Now, having said all that, of all the teams not to wear it (it's just a sticker after all, what does it affect you if you just leave it on?) the Pats make sense. I can see why they would feel like they should keep the sticker only of their own teammate since no one else was (of course the Broncos kept the #21 along with the sticker honoring their two deceased teammates). I do think, however, that it is a symptom of their 'us against the world' attitude that makes them so standoffish and, ironically, becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. In any case, I actually find some of the comments made in this thread much more disturbing and crass than the fact that the Pats (and some others) didn't continue wearing the #21 sticker. If you want to excoriate someone for not having class then show some yourself.
I certainly understand that the Pats want to honor their fallen teammate. I also think that it is unfortunate that teams haven't honored Hill the way they've honored Taylor. But, I do think the sticker is significant (yes I said that) just as the Pats Hill sticker is significant. And, as I said in my first post in this thread, I don't mean to make a bigger deal of it than it really is. I didn't blast the Giants for not wearing the stickers. But, given the Pats history, I do take issue with them. I'm sorry if others diagree with me, but I think this is yet another example of how the Pats operate. |
Re: Patriot Helmet Stickers
Well, step away from the #21 sticker issue for a moment and visualize this: Some of the Dirty Birds (Falcons) were sporting #7 stickers on their helmets tonight at the Aint's game. Now THAT'S pathetic!

Re: Patriot Helmet Stickers
Why do the Patriots wear the number 91 on the back of their helmets?
Answer The Patriots are wearing circular stickers on the backs of their helmets with the number 91 on them, in honor of their teammate, the late Marquise Hill. Marquise Hill (August 7, 1982 - May 28, 2007) was an American football defensive end for the New England Patriots of the National Football League. Hill attended De La Salle High School in New Orleans where he was named as an All-American and the best defensive lineman in the nation by many publications. Hill then played college football in Louisiana State University and was drafted by the Patriots in the second round of the 2004 NFL Draft. Hill played in one game in 2004 and played in eight games in the 2005 season, making three tackles. On the evening of May 27, 2007, Hill and his friend, Ashley Blazio, fell off a jet ski in Lake Pontchartrain, north of New Orleans. Neither was wearing a personal flotation nor tracking device. Blazio was rescued and sent to Tulane Medical Center. Coast Guard units searched the area, and Hill's body was found by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries around 2:15 PM CDT on May 28. Hill had spent much of his time in the days after Hurricane Katrina helping residents rebuild their homes. He was the first New England Patriots player to die while still a member of the team. For the 2007 NFL season, the Patriots team will wear a "91" insignia (Hill's number in his tenure with New England) on the back on their helmets in honor of his life. Source: Wikipedia
no disrespect to hill may he rest in peace...but have they been wearing that number all season..if not thats their way of being different and rogues again |

Re: Patriot Helmet Stickers
Skins Fans, Look at all the replies to this thread. One thing these boards allow people to do is show their ignorance. How many Redskins fans have really paid attention to the entire Marquise Hill story? While a few have tried to point out facts of the situation, most of the replies are "to hell with the Pats for not wearing '21' for the rest of the season, while most teams do", or "that's typical of the Patriots and how they do things". Yes, he wasn't wearing a life preserver while jet skiing, which obviously was unfortunate. But to have someone berate him because the female friend he helped save wasn't his wife or girlfriend is simply appalling. The Patriot players that knew Sean from the Univ. of Miami wore '21' stickers for the rest of the season, among them Vince Wilfork and Brandon Meriweather, who also had their own prayer before the Pats-Ravens game, but wasn't shown on the network broadcast.
I understand the hatred the Patriots have brought on themselves this season, but to bring it down to this level is simply below what I believed to be what true Redskins stand for. I had a great tailgate at the Pats-Skins game this season, and we had a great time with some friendly back and forth, which is how it should be. But to bring this down to who's death is more important, and be pissed off about how some folks/teams deal with it is not where Sean or Marquise would want this to go. Best of luck next season to the Skins, but don't hate so much people. Negative energy has a way to come back and bite you in the butt. And try to enjoy 19-0...you won't see it again anytime soon. |
Re: Patriot Helmet Stickers
Believe me when I say that the skins fans are generally classy, and are not ones to promote disrespect unless we are being disrespected, and again in that situation we tend to take the high road for the most part as silly as this statement now sounds.

Re: Patriot Helmet Stickers
I hate the Patriots, but they did wear it the week after Sean's death. They are still honoring their teammate and I don't see a problem with it.
