Re: Can we now officially call Romo a choke artist?
Tony was forcing at the end of the game. On plays where he should've thrown the ball away, he held onto it and tried his best to make a play. And of course, over throwing his WRs and throwing into double (maybe triple) coverage on that last play. Maybe it was the playcalling, but Tony didn't have to go for all the marbles, he could've gotten the first down and maybe had time for one last play.
I think Romo had come unglued. Sure, he had help with some dropped passes (Crayton) but he certainly didn't help matters toward the end of the game. |

I'd like to think we broke them in the last week of the season. I will say that Dallas fans stepped up huge when Sean was killed. They really showed so much class and I will never forget it.

Who knows. Game on the line, though, he certainly wasn't making great choices. |

That's why when people say the last game is meaningless, that's a bunch of hog wash! Especially when the last game of the season is against your divisional rival AND your rival is playing to secure a spot in the playoffs. We beat up their starters and took it out on their backups in the fourth quarter. I don't care what state of mind they were in in that last game. I believe they went into the playoffs feeling a bit vulnerable. |
Re: Can we now officially call Romo a choke artist?
I do not believe that Romo is a choke artist. He is just very unfortunate in his first 2 playoff appearances. He is going to get it done sooner or later. Maybe not a Superbowl, but he will get some playoff wins. It is the Playoffs and only one team can win. We would be having the same conversation about Eli, if he would have been on the losing side today. What I think is ironic is that no one has started bagging on Peyton yet. Didn't he have a reputation for blowing it in the "big game"? I guess that 1 Superbowl win changes all of that. The fact of the matter is that Peyton is one of the Best QB's of all time, but does not have the best track record in the Playoffs. To call Romo a choke artist after only 2 seasons is definately premature. In all honesty, Romo is one of the top 2 or 3 Quarterbacks in the NFC right now. Lets wait until he finishes his career before we put the choke artist label on his work. When it is all said and done and Romo turns out to never win a Playoff game, then I will lead the charge of Romo taunting. Until then, leave the guy alone.

No. Linda never choked. Seriously though, I love this Dallas collapse. I think this team is only going to go down from here. TO is getting older as is T. Glenn and a good portion of their line. Wade Phillips' record in the playoffs is no longer a fluke, it's a trend. Dallas Sucks. |
Re: Can we now officially call Romo a choke artist?
1st nfc number 1 seed to lose in divisional round since te nfl made the playoffs 12 teams
but -: 0-1 coincendence 0-2 becoming a trend 0-3 hemlich manuever time i say one more loss and then he can get that label because eli manning was 0-2 in the playoffs before this year |
Re: Can we now officially call Romo a choke artist?
Last year, he lost a game on the road to a Seattle team when both the Cowboys and the Hawks were playing bad football. He threw pretty well, but didn't execute his duty as a holder. That of course has nothing to do with him being a good QB.
He didn't play well yesterday. But we have no trends to speak of. I can say that I'm: 99.9% sure that Romo played below his career playoff ability yesterday. 00.1% sure that this is a good example of Romo's playoff ability yesterday. When it's 50-50, we can start talking choke artist. Until then, this is all worthless fan babble not worthy of the Warpath. |
Re: Can we now officially call Romo a choke artist?
How did you ascertain what his career playoff ability is to be able to say with over 99% certainty that he played below it yesterday?

Re: Can we now officially call Romo a choke artist?
How did you ascertain what his career playoff ability is to be able to say with over 99% certainty that he played below it yesterday?
Because as far as I can tell, there is not a measurable difference between a player's regular season numbers and his playoff numbers.
Historically, quarterback production tends to be down a bit in the playoffs, because the defense quality is so much better. However, there isn't a single case of a guy who consistently got his team to the playoffs and consistently delievered rough performances to the point where you could say it was a trend. Peyton is the most famous example, but he has 3 playoff games with a QB rating over 135. He's got the same number of games under 60, but that's to be expected if you are playing great defenses every week. The definition of a choke artist is a guy who lacks the ability to perform in the big game: that is to say that he will NEVER play well in a playoff game at any point in his career (because he lacked the ability to do so, not because he just happened not to), and that's a pretty tall claim. I say 99.9% on Romo, because if a choke artist truly existed in football, he would be the very first. |
Re: Can we now officially call Romo a choke artist?
I assume his career playoff ability to be just a hair below his career regular season ability: pretty good.
|
Re: Can we now officially call Romo a choke artist?
For the record:
Tom Brady games under 60 QB rating in the playoffs: 1 Tom Brady games over 135 QB rating in the playoffs: 1 Before yesterday: 0 |
Re: Can we now officially call Romo a choke artist?
I can't remember which of Parcell's QB commandments it was, but one was:
We don't need celibrities, we need generals. The Head Cheerleader and the Celebrity Quarterback came acropper tonight. Jerry Jones looking like Pickett at Gettysburgh is priceless. Circumstances seemed to have cleared a path through the wilderness for Old Man Farve. |

Lets see manning is 7-6 in the playoffs, counting the superbowl but the difference he has never bobbled the snap of a 10 yard FG for the game winner. Romo may not be a choke artist but flying down to mexico with your girlfriend the week before the big game is no way of increasing your chances of victory. Peyton, or Brady would never do that. |
