Re: Time To Be A GM: Your 1st Round Pick Is...
OK, this thread is now about Day One. So rounds 1-2
SS, just a reminder, that the NFL Draft Day 1 includes the 3rd round, but hey, I'm ok with only 1&2 up first. I'm just not up on who else to pick in rd. #2. ThatGuy had a nice strategy, but I think we can only focus on one preferred name in each round.

I refer to HailRedskins.com mocks round #2 with Devin Thomas name mentioned pretty often.

I'm no expert, so I only look as far as my nose. With the most Mock drafts anywhere on the web, 184, HailRedskins.com is tops!

It's just 2 rounds on day one this year. Remember the draft usually started at 12p on Saturday. Starting this year it will start at 3p

Devin Thomas would be a great round #2 pick, but ever since I mentioned him earlier this week several others have as well, so I'll leave it to others to drive that bandwagon

Thanks SS! I did not know that little tidbit! Now I can catch my nap before the start of the Draft! (Old age you know!)

I only mentioned Thomas because I saw his name. I know nothing about these guys except the Safety I posted about earlier. I still want DE/DT first. I've also seen that OG B. Albert, from the boohoos of whoville mentioned for us in round #2.

For round 2 I would like to add to the case for Devin Thomas:
Devin Thomas
WR | (6'2", 217, 4.51) | MICHIGAN STATE

Scouts Grade: 89

Overall: After proving his explosiveness and versatility by averaging 105.5 all-purpose yards at Coffeyville CC in 2005, Thomas enrolled at Michigan State. He played 10 games in his first season in East Lansing, but finished with just six receptions, 90 receiving yards and one touchdown. He broke out as a junior last season, playing in all 13 games and delivering 79 catches, eight TDs and a Big Ten-best 1,260 receiving yards for a Spartans offense that relied heavily on the run. He added 177 rushing yards on 27 carries and starred as a return man, averaging 29.1 on 39 kickoff returns. Compared to most prospects, there?s very little information to go off of when evaluating Thomas. He only played one year at the FBS level, and as an underclassman entry he was not able to compete in a post-season all-star game. His inexperience and lack of exposure naturally creates some doubt. However, the more film we study of Thomas the more impressed we are with his overall physical tools. He possesses the size, athleticism and hands of a future starter in the NFL, which is why we graded Thomas out in the second round. He will fit best in a West Coast system, where his run-after-catch ability will be maximized.

Also I agree that we should take Campbell in the first round at DE.
Jordy Nelson is the sleeper of all sleepers in this draft!!!

HE has the size, quickness, toughness, hands, and break away ability that we would look for at the WR position.

Sorry, to all of the TAlib Fans, but here is a clip of Talib getting baked.

Skins4Life is right, he may not make it past the 2nd round, so I think we would have to choose between Jordy Nelson and Devin Thomas, which is not an easy choice.
Has anyone mentioned that the guy put up 1,606 yards last year in the Big 12. Thats almost double what Limas Sweed put up during his breakout year. Check out the guys game log and you'll see that he had great games against quality oponents. Unlike Sweed who made a living taking advantage of the Rice's of college football.

The funny thing is that when I was watching that video I kept saying to myself "Is he white? Theres no way its just bad YouTube quality. Wait maybe he is. Alright Yahoo Images. HOLY SHIT HE'S WHITE!!"

Not going to try the 1st round but if Brandon Flowers is available at our pick in round 2, he's our guy. He's been mentioned a couple times but would project to be a 1st rounder had he stayed for his senior year. VA Tech's dcoord calls him the best cb he's had. Not bad praise.

I have liked the idea of building a team around the defense in the early draft like we have been doing. I like Campbell and Phillips (yes because they went to the U, but they are good players).

But now that Zorn is the coach...I dunno. I dont think we will go after a big receiver becasue he can make Llyod a great receiver. Yes everyone hates him but all the receivers in Seattle are little too, its all about timing routes, which we didnt really do. If we get Moss, L, and LLyod the ball on slants and timing routes so they hvae open space they can be great. We'll draft a big receiver but I dont think first.

I think we go after a DT or olinemen in the first round...which is boring but a need...
second round a receiver
third a corner

I don't like the idea after going after a 1st round WR in general unless we can trade that pick alone for CJ or if by some act of God we have Malcom Kelly fall to us. I believe that Sweed has never had a 100 yard recieving game against a team like Oklahoma or Ohio State so that worries me. In fact most of his big games came against teams like Rice and Sam Houston State.

So with that said I say we go after a guy like Campbell in the first round. Mainly because the DE's availabel in the second round are to small to play the left side.

Plus they could move Campbell inside to play DT on obvious passing downs. On top of that Campbell is probably hungry to regain his 2006 form where he brought in 10.5 sacks, and with Blache and company on his ass I think he can do that. Plus his size reminds me of Daryl Gardner.

So on the first two picks I agree with Skins and Canes, but personally I want to see either a Guard, inside Pass rusher, or exceptional safety selected with that third pick. I believe that in this league pass defense is built through pass rushers up front and safetys down deep.

Corners are overrated IMO and to prove my point I bring up Denver. Two pro bowl corners and yet they struggled against the pass. While we had two pro bowl safetys and did exceptional against the pass. Hell the Giants had an anemic secondary but were able to play great pass defense thanks to the guys up front.

Your point is valid in one big way--it shows that teams with a pair of "elite" players and a smattering of below average players will wind up below average.

Re: (updated title): Make Your Day One Redskins Draft Selections (Rounds 1-2)

my list goes 1st round: talib or nelson, then 2nd round: (sleeper pick) RB Chris Johnson... only say this from the "best available" point of view. he is the quickest player in the draft and has good hands (and the speed is no BS, a legit 4.2 forty). He could step in and be KR and PR and be a good talent worth developing... i have a sick highlight vid. but i dont have enough posts to put it up yet
