i work friday through monday right now... which means i'm going to have a very sad saturday and sunday :/ and yeah, i see it, but its not really anything new.

boldin for a 1st NOT 1st + something. he's not cj and he's had 2 seasons with injury issues.

when healthy he's good for 1400 though.

So I do not have to post my opinion on 3 differnt threads. I will take Boldin, Williams, or CJ in a New York minuite. Yes, I would give up a 1st rounder for any of them. That alleviates the need for a WR and we still have a draft to work with. Great WR's are hard to find. IMO all 3 are great and provide what we need on the opposite end of Santanna (about 16 inches).

I second 724Skinsfan's opinion that people who demand trades need to be viewed differently. We should also caution against the feeling that a player is "reasonable" because his antics and noise level don't rise to the level of Chad Johnson - he's so far over the line that he can't see it in his rear view mirror.

That being said, Boldin has a case for wanting to move on.

All this while working under a contract that will pay him (only?) $2.5 million next year while his teammate (who averages fewer catches and yards) will average around $14 million a year through the next three. I don't think that's a good atmosphere for him at all, and frankly he has handled himself fairly professionally.

I'd prefer him over CJ because of the age factor. But it's just going to cost too much and he's going to want a deal near what Fitzgerald got. Plus he's injury prone.

I hate to keep repeating myself but why can't we draft a guy like Boldin in the 3rd or 4th round?

Boldin had knee surgery in pre-season 2004, missing six games. I haven't seen anything on the knee being an ongoing issue. Last year he missed 4 games with hip/toe issues. He is expected healthy for 2008.

The knee doesn't appear to be a problem, but I'd investigate the hip issue.

ESPN is reporting that the Redskins made an offer to the Cardinals to acquire Boldin in a trade but the Cardinals declined the offer.

I think you have to take the whole Boldin thing in with a grain of salt:
1) He is not much younger than Chad at 27 (2 years and change) so the complaint about Chad's year count is either totally overblown or should be applied partially towards boldin too. And I'll take Chad's consistency and durability over that 2 yr difference with boldin

2) Boldin has had some injury concerns and the last thing we need is an injury prone player on our roster. Just another chance at an offseason hypothetical, leaving us scratching our heads, asking what if so-and-so was healthy.

3) Boldin's numbers are padded by the fact that he played in the pass happy NFC West. When you play in high scoring games against SF, St Louis and Seattle, especially when your team is down by a large margin and has to pass, your WR's are gonna get the stats. Also, the DB's probably aren't as good as in Chad's AFC North (with Pittsburgh and Baltimore).

4) Boldin had the benefit of Fitzgerald taking away a lot of the attention and it probably suited for the #2 role on any team. 85 on the other hand was almost always doubled and was always treated as the #1 threat on the field.

5) Boldin has never really played in big (NFL) game situations. He has no playoff experience and typically his teams have finished well under .500. Arizona is a pretty tame NFL state where little pressure is put on that team to perform. Who knows how he will deal with big city pressure and expectations, especially in a media market like DC?

He tore his ACL his junior year of college as well. I think that's why he dropped in the draft, if I recall correctly.

I'd give up this years first for Boldin. Done deal. Maybe even throw in a late rounder...5-7th round pick. Proven talent, young, and what we need. We wouldn't be mortgaging our future either. If you take a WR at #21 it's hit or miss. Almost 50/50 chance he's be productive.

I really dont feel we have the necessary cap space to make a deal like this work. I mean of course we do if we cut a bunch of guys and restructure a bunch of other contracts, but doing both of those things hurts the team in the long run more than getting a standout WR with the amount that they are going for. At this rate of restructuring contracts, Jansen, Thomas, Samuels, Portis, Moss, Randle El, Carter, smoot, washington, and griffin will all still be redskins when they are 90 due to the rediculous bonus money they will have. Not to mention, griffin, washington, springs, wade, and probably more people but I cant think of them all right now are in danger of getting cut due to the cap.

I like Boldin for us better then CJ...younger and less mouth. Seems like a good fit next to Moss. i would try and get him for less then CJ though...maybe just the #1 with nothing else added on.

They obviously do since they're trying to work out a deal. I'm sure they probably have the space already penciled in for a contract of that magnitude and have running projections of the entire roster for the next 3 years. If there's one thing this front office knows how to do well it's working the cap.
