I remember a few weeks back they were talking about using Thomas for punt returns and people were saying how terrible he was at it during pre-season (I wouldn't know I didn't follow pre-season)

I agree with what you are saying, but these are the teams that did bring him in for the workouts. It's the 28 other teams that would better fit your point.

Its too late. We should have traded Betts when we had the chance. But as far as Rock. I just dont get why he is so valuable. I think Thrash could do just a good of job as a kick-off returner and how old is he? If we are saying that we can't groom someone to be a KR. That's sad. Rock has shown me nothing that makes him that valuable. He doesn't fumble. Ok that's good. But it that the only reason you want to keep him on the team. He is a good leader on "special teams" are you serious. We need someone more explosive as KR and also someone who can spell Betts and Portis because Portis has 3-4 more years left and Betts is a good fill-in but not a starting running back (had one good year). Yeah I said it.

We need some youth to groom for the future. SA is good for a couple of carries to spell Portis to when Betts comes back. But we have to look to the future. Like I said Mason has skill and instinct. He can learn the plays (or could have learned the plays as a 3rd back). Its easier to learn plays than it is to be talented. Also you can't teach youth. Mason backing up Portis (at this point in the season) with the O-line the way it is. I really doubt he couldn't pickup the plays. It was more about keeping Kelly and some extra DBs for depth.

But I am frankly tired of hearing about Rock Rock Rock. He is no Devin Hester. He is no Dante Hall. He is no Reggie Bush. He is no Brian Mitchell. He is not even a number 2 back. Kill the noise.

I have nothing against Rock, but he's a one demensional player. When he [B]is[/B] relied upon to play the RB role he usually will fumble atleast once a game. Yes he did well filling in for Betts last week. Rock is not a threat to take one to the house. He will get you to the 30 yrd line most of the time on kick offs but usually nothing more. When they first hired him he was fast, shifty and elusive. Now he is just a straight ahead...hope someone makes a hole to plow through KR.

I'm not saying his job is easy either. Why don't they have him returning punts also? He's better at returning kicks then Randle El.

and from what I'm hearing Mason was one demensional also. Apparently he was not a good pass blocker but I like to think the team could have taken some more time and tried to train him to do extra stuff...ie, pass block, KR or PR and train him to be a better RB. I agree he was young and fast. The key being he was young.

the guys has had 150 career carries and fumbled 3 times what is it with everyone talking about how much he fumbles. That is far from once a game. As a matter of fact he has fumbled the ball no more than once a season while carrying the ball. The only time he's fumbled 2 times in one season is in 03, once on a run and once from a pass.

btw if he was fumbling as much as a lot of people say he wouldnt be returning kicks either.

Please don't let the stats fool you. Everytime he was given a [B]chance[/B] to be the #1 featured back he would fumble during the game and then be taken out of the game to ride the bench. So if you are going to go with those stats keep in mind on NFL.com they have him as having 5 fumbles through his whole career. If I remember correctly he probably had 5 starts would fumble and be benched. I'm not kidding. As far as his KR abilities...he's awsome. Meaning he does not usually fumble and will usually get the team to the 20 or 30 yard line. Once in a while he gets to the 50. Try finding out how many KR he broke for a touch down through his whole career. I'm guessing you will not be impressed.

He's a nice fill in and pray not to fumble RB but he will never be a featured back. He found that out when he was a free agent and resigned with the Skins. Can they teach him not to fumble...sure. They taught Betts how to do that. but if you are going to have to teach someone the game why not pick a younger RB who can take over when Portis hangs up his cleats.

Funny on the main page for Rock they have him with 5 fumbles when you look at career stats they have him at 3 so go figure. I got it 3 rushing fumbles which was his whole career for featured back. One receiving fumble and one KR fumble. He's only had 8 TD's his whole career also. One KR TD, one receiving TD, and 6 rushing TD's. That's good considering he's been with the team 7 years. Hmmm.

Can we see some links to back up this claim that he had 5 starts and he was benched each time? What the hell is that?

The guy is a solid teams guy for us. Not sure why that's not enough for some people.
