Re: Half Assed Rebuilding Mode
I think the interior of the line is more important right now than RT. Rabach had a subpar season, Thomas is injury riddled and getting old. Most fans in this forum mention that if you have a great DL like Haynesworth that you can dominate the trenches. The same applies the other way, if you have a great C/G then you can counteract a great DL and have the DE beat you.
I think a 2009 starting OL of this guys below would be sweet: Samuels, Dockery, Mack, Devin Clark/Rinehart, Heyer/Jansen
it all depends if you want to start with a passing team, its probably more beneficial to go after a tackle. they are the cornerstones of the offense and protect the most important asset(obviously not true for all teams lol) tackles make good money because they deserve good money. You have to be big, very strong, and very quick to play tackle in the NFL and there arent many players that can do that....more and more tackles are being drafted in the later rounds and being converted to guards because they cant handle the rush on the outside interior linemen are more important IMO because most plays take place from the inside out. the center is the only player to touch the ball every single play and if he gets pushed off balance then he ruins the entire play. guards need to be quicker than tackles but rarely have to move backwards like tackles. most of their steps are forward and allow them to play off balance a little if it were my pick, id take a tackle, but thats only because its so early in the first round if it were later in round 1 or even in round 2, id take a top rated center or guard without looking back. especially from the crop of kids coming out this year unless they make a trade back, the redskins need to take a tackle |
You had it right with your first center.
alex mack is my favorite player in the entire draft. if the draft went my way he would be #1 overall he is, IMO, the best player in the entire draft and the safest, surest pick very smart, very quick, strong, and has great hands hes tall but he blocks low and his first and second steps are faster than any other center in the draft eric wood is probably a little stronger, and max unger is probably a little quicker, but there isnt a better talent overall in the draft any of the top centers in the draft would be great for the redskins at either center or guard mack unger wood robinson caldwell luigs newton they could all help and most of them will be available when the redskins pick |

i cant see any player in the top 4 being worth the trade up other than curry michael oher and andre smith were both rated higher than jason smith and eugene monroe at the end of the season the combine and offseason dropped them down on many draft boards, but they are still very talented trading up isnt smart, especially in a very weak draft class |

Mack is the smartest, baddest OL player in the draft. I guarantee that wherever he lands that he will make that OL much better overnight. |

he is, IMO, the best player in the entire draft and the safest, surest pick
number 1 overall, why? You know he won't go that way so no need to draft him there
hes tall but he blocks low and his first and second steps are faster than any other center in the draft
I'm sure that you've watched him more than me but I read that he gets up too tall as a con.. the faster off of the snap I have heard though |

Re: Half Assed Rebuilding Mode
I think the fans would be tolerant if we were really in a rebuilding mode w/ a plan. The problem is like the post sais we are in between. We don't have direction and lack FO discipline. We are a bipolar organization. It's who we are. We've become a laughingstock organization. A perenial average team.

I would goas far as saying that he could be the next Jim Otto. Read this: Alex Mack, California, NFL Draft - CBSSports.com Football |

Welcome aboard. Did you come to this conclusion by listening to others like myself or did you watch the Youtube of him tearing s**t up? We had it on here for a little while. If we couldn't draft down I'd take Mack over trading up to get Sanchez. I don't care if he's a center. |
in a few years when we look back at the draft and realize who were the best players to come out of the draft, we wont be looking at matthew stafford or brian orakpo or tyson jackson im looking at the draft as if it were years ago. I think alex mack will have a better pro career than any other pick in the draft. I think he will be here in canton with me some day. the last center that i thought was as close in talent to mack was nick mangold out of ohio state. he also went in the first round and now is a huge reason why thomas jones made the pro bowl last year
I'm sure that you've watched him more than me but I read that he gets up too tall as a con.. the faster off of the snap I have heard though
he is 6'4" but gets almost too low when he snaps the ball, he is a natural knee bender and he is very comfortable in his stance, if you've ever tried to put 1 hand down like a lineman and keep your head up, you'll realize how hard it is to do that for 5, 10, 15 seconds before the snap then he takes his first step without moving his upper body, his second step is either a turn or a pull step and his 3rd step is when he starts his upward motion with his body, but by then he will either have made contact with his opponent or he will be in the open field, head hunting |

ive watched him as much as i could since the beginning of the college football season. Im a Saints fan at heart and i know very little about the redskins as a whole so after the saints let jeff faine go, ive been looking at possible replacements and i realized alex mack was a very special player before all the mocks even came out it really doesnt matter who started it, as long as macks name is being tossed around and hes getting credit that he rightfully deserves |
