Re: Do You think Betts is Expendable?
Portis #1 back, Sellers as FB, Keep Cartwright as #2 back, and let Alridge and Mason compete for the #3 back position. Dorsey or #3 back competition loser could compete for special teams or be practice squad. Trade Betts for a starter quality LB. Saints only have 2 backs. Maybe they would be interested in a trade for Betts or another team. Betts is a good back but not a change of pace back for Portis. Maybe Alridge or Mason who are quick slash type runners can compete as the #2 back even.
While I disagree with Cartwright being the #2 back (he may not even make the roster this year) I agree with shopping Betts for a starting quality LB. I think we could make a play for Edge James to pair with Portis and see what we have with Aldridge/Dorsey/Mason. I've never really gotten the fascination with Betts. He's okay as a RB but doesn't do anything impressive. There's not any aspect of his game that stands out. |
Re: Do You think Betts is Expendable?
People want to write off Rock every year it seems. He's a good special teams guy and that's why he sticks. I don't see his job being in serious jeopardy this year.
He's not as tough as CP & doesn't make as much when there's nothing there, but in the open field I think he's probably better than CP at this point.
Now you have gone too far, you have gotta be kidding me. Betts isnt a pimple on CP's arse!!! Betts is a great receiving tailback, but we dont need that. What we need is a good change of pace back, one that can compliment CP. Betts is just a "poor mans" CP, he does run hard, but he doesnt make anyone miss. And Rock is a true Redskin, but he will never be a starting caliber running back in this league. Great special teamer, but never gonna be #1 or #2 back. |

Yes. He had one good year. That's it.

Re: Do You think Betts is Expendable?
Until we find someone who is as talented as Betts, (via FA, or trade) he will be our #2 RB this season. Cartwright isn't going to get released because he's a great special teamer and a locker room leader, but he won't be the #3 RB like he was the last few seasons. Dorsey or Aldridge (I think Aldrige) will most likely be the #3 RB.

Re: Do You think Betts is Expendable?
I think Betts is totally expendable, but he doesn't suck. I'd actually like to see him get more carries this year for the sake of Clinton's health. Hopefully Alridge or Dorsey will make the team and we can use their speed out of the backfield occasionally.
I think the 2010 offseason will definitely involve either using a 1st day pick on a RB, or making a move for a very good free agent. With the pounding CP has taken since coming here, I can't see how he can play more than another year or two as a top tier RB. I hope I'm wrong. Does anyone have a list of RBs who will be free agents next offseason? I suppose the whole CBA/uncapped season thing will have a lot to do with it. |

But otherwise, I'm not positive. Willie Parker maybe? |
Re: Do You think Betts is Expendable?
Not only no, but HECK NO!
The guy is a very good number two back and he can return kicks too! Heck no! Besides there is no number two back out there that would be an upgrade over him. |

He became a bruiser in our system cuz we didn't give him the blocking he had in Denver as a slasher. If we do the right things along the line I think CP can continue to adjust his style and extend his career well into the future...that's what I hope to see. |

It wasnt even a full season. |

Dude. Every RB/FB fumbles. From Afrian Peterson to Portis. Portis fumbled in the Browns game. Portis fumbled in the Ravens game. Does Portis have a fumbling issue? |
