What do you mean? |
Re: Here's our chance for Jeff Fisher
Add another vote to GM first, then HC. Until this team has a GM as fans we will have to suffer through mediocrity at best, or gut wrenching season like this. A winning franchise is going to require a GM to acquire the right 'talent' both in terms of players and coaches.
In this regard we are doomed since as pointed out in an earlier post in this thread Snyder has no football sense so even if he picks a GM, he will probably pick incorrectly. |
I don't understand the love for all this guys Fisher, Gruden, Shanahan, Cowher, Shottenheimer.
You're right, who would want something like this in DC? We're truly too good for it
He became the fifteenth head coach in Steelers history when he succeeded Chuck Noll on January 21, 1992 – but only the second head coach since the NFL merger in 1970. Under Cowher, the Steelers showed an immediate improvement from the disappointing 7-9 season the year before, going 11-5 and earning home field advantage in the AFC after the Steelers had missed the playoffs six times out of the previous seven years. In 1995, at age 38, he became the youngest coach to lead his team to a Super Bowl. Cowher is only the second coach in NFL history to lead his team to the playoffs in each of his first six seasons as head coach, joining Pro Football Hall of Fame member Paul Brown. In Cowher’s 15 seasons, the Steelers captured eight division titles, earned ten postseason playoff berths, played in 21 playoff games, advanced to six AFC Championship games and made two Super Bowl appearances. He is one of only six coaches in NFL history to claim at least seven division titles. It has become an article of faith among NFL pundits that the Steelers do not have a bad team two years in a row – they have never lost 10 or more games in consecutive years since the 1970 NFL merger. At the conclusion of the 2005 season, the Pittsburgh Steelers had the best record of any team in the National Football League since Cowher was hired as head coach. On February 5, 2006, Cowher's Pittsburgh Steelers won Super Bowl XL by defeating the Seattle Seahawks 21-10, giving Cowher his first Super Bowl ring.
He never had a great QB either. |
Re: Here's our chance for Jeff Fisher
I highly Doubt Fisher is going anywhere. I was stationed in TN for a while and the ppl there love him. They would burn that bi%h to the ground. He has had bad seasons before and brought them back.

Gee I don't know, they've all won a lot of games in this league, are widely respected by their peers, and there's a few SB trophies scattered in there as well. You can spin their success any way you want, at the end of the day they're successful and proven coaches. |
Re: Here's our chance for Jeff Fisher
And he has also gone from:
13-3 to 7-9 12-4 to 5-11 13-3 to 0-6 so far this year. He's like a rollercoaster.
not too many coaches that haven't had that happen to sometimes you lose key guys to retirement, free agency, etc so we just pack it up if we can't get holmgren or dungy? give the team away? |
Re: Here's our chance for Jeff Fisher
Out of all the Head Coaches available.
my order would be... 1. Cowher 2. Shanahan 3. Gruden 4. Fischer The Chin>Fischer. but we wont get em. |
Re: Here's our chance for Jeff Fisher
We just tried this with Zorn. One things that is abundantly clear... Snyder is a poor judge of football talent...both coaching and players. He hasn't yet made a voila football talent decision. I guess you could argue that Schottenheimer was close but then he f'd that up by canning him after one year.
DS doesn't have the chops to make football decisions. We're going to have to get lucky in that he'll hire the right guy at GM and give him all the power to make the football decisions.
If Danny does can Vinny, he'll get someone better in there.. hopefully..... |

If you hire the coach first (and I'd probably do this only with a big reputed coach) you can consider letting HIM choose the GM. That's what you'll see with some of these coaches returning, Cowher will have his own personnel guy, Holmgren will if he doesn't serve as it himself, etc. |
Re: Here's our chance for Jeff Fisher
I totally agree with you, and was going to post something to the same respect. I find it funny that every HC out there who may be on the hot seat or currently doesn't have a job because of being fired, "retiring", or being pushed out the door alla Mike Holmgren is a new discussion and thread on the forum.
1st thing first.. GM... period. I can't sit here and say whole heartedly that we will be successful with coach a or b without a new FO system in place that gets danny out of the cookie jar. Look I wanted our way of doing things to work. As did everyone else here, but at this point it is not going to. We can't over pay free agents and then bitch because we have no depth. We have no money to get ourselves any depth. Also at this point we don't have anyone who can pick good talent. AND WE NEED A SYSTEM IN PLACE TO GET THE RIGHT TALENT AS WELL. We need guys that fit our "system". Which right now isn't very clearly defined. A WC passing attack mixed with an 80's running game? You know why we have this backwards ass offensive system in place. Because we don't have a clearly defined way of running the franchise. This is what happens when you hire an OC who is only installing a passing game and then turn the guy into the HC. Remember we kept Joe Gibbs running game. So Zorn is only using half of the WCO playbook. This is so stupid. This is why the offense sux so bad. Well among many other problems with this franchise. RETARDED VINNY. Come on, hire the whole staff then try and find a HC to fit around them? What HC worth a salt would have taken the job back in 08? None. Except for washed up Jim Fassel or Steve Mariucci? A couple of winners there huh? Well this is where we are and it is time to blow up Redskin Park's inner structure. So I could really care less about Jeff Fisher. I want to know who the next GM is, and when he is going to start getting this thing turned around. No more band aids.
You're absolutely correct. I wanted to say the very same things you did, I just didn't feel like typing it. Just finished reading Jason Reid's blog on Redskins Insider "Largent says Zorn considered quitting" and disecting his logic (which by the way is spot on) one can't help but wonder why Zorn took this job in the first place. One word of wisdom to any prospective coach considering coming here under the current set of circumstances, BEWARE. |
Re: Here's our chance for Jeff Fisher
I love Jeff Fisher, a BADASS coach that would get the team MOTIVATED!

Come on Josh man, it sounds good but this team needs just a "little" bit more than motivation. Check some of the threads on this board over the last few weeks and you'll get a pretty good idea about what this team needs. |
Re: Here's our chance for Jeff Fisher
Wow, if Danny somehow managed to bring Dungy in, that would be amazing. I think he is my top choice even though it will prolz never happen...
|
Re: Here's our chance for Jeff Fisher
I like Jeff Fischer....I am all for it. Hopefully, Tennessee fires him midseason...so we can grab him.
