Re: RUMOR: Trade talks between Browns (Brady Quinn) and Broncos (Brandon Marshall)
Its been a while now, but i thought everything i remembering hearing was that the Redskins were offering essentially the same thing (two first and a third plus their QB) for Cutler. But Denver valued Orton higher then Campbell.
we were offering closer to a 1st, 3rd, and Campbell I believe |
So you have the old thinking of giving up picks for a splashy free agent? I thought that was over when Cerrato left town.
Sorry but Marshall is a lot more than a "splashy free agent." It's one thing bringing in guys like ARE, Lloyd and Moss. But this guy can just take over and catch 20 passes in one game. Shanahan will know how to use him. If a player of this caliber is on the market, which it looks like he is, then we need to do everything we can to get him. BM is a true #1 wr and it's exactly what the offense needs. He would make everyone on our offense better. |
Re: RUMOR: Trade talks between Browns (Brady Quinn) and Broncos (Brandon Marshall)
Marshall is an unbelievable talent, but it's a stretch to say that he is a "must have" for us. In four years in Denver, the Broncos never made the playoffs, finished above 500 (9-7) only once and the offense never finished in the top half of the NFL.

Re: RUMOR: Trade talks between Browns (Brady Quinn) and Broncos (Brandon Marshall)
not sure if the skins are in the market for Marshall. Not matter how much the fans want him to be here. He is obviously a tool, who doesn't work well with his coaches.

we never offered our first in 2009 - reportedly, that was something Cerrato was unwilling to do. |
Re: RUMOR: Trade talks between Browns (Brady Quinn) and Broncos (Brandon Marshall)
BM just needs to grow up...then he will be the best player he can be...but until he gets past being "baby t.o" then its not gonna happen.

Re: RUMOR: Trade talks between Browns (Brady Quinn) and Broncos (Brandon Marshall)
id like to know once and for all just what we offered in teh 3 way broncos-skins-browns trade.
it has been reported we didnt want to give up 2 firsts, it has been reported that "the compensation was there" (meaning same as bears offer) but the broncos valued it as quinn, orton then JC as their qb wish list. i guess we will never really know, but id like to. not that any of it matters anymore. |

No way Brian Mitchell is coming back. |
Re: RUMOR: Trade talks between Browns (Brady Quinn) and Broncos (Brandon Marshall)
First of all, let's look at everyone that's involved in this rumor. The Browns, this is a totally dysfunctional outfit. Aren't they the same team that can't seem to come up with a decent contract for their best player, Joshua Cribbs? The Broncos, isn't this the same team that kicked Shanahan to the curb, pissed off their all Pro quarterback and was forced to trade him to the Bears? Brandon Marshall, isn't this the same player that refused to show up for training camp/practice and threatened to not play? Brady Quinn, isn't this the bum that was drafted first round out of Notre Dame and couldn't nail down the starting quarterback job in Cleveland over Derek Anderson? They are all misfits. Orton is no better or worse than Quinn.

Re: RUMOR: Trade talks between Browns (Brady Quinn) and Broncos (Brandon Marshall)
I thought Shanahan tried trading him away at one point? The guy is talented, but definitely a bit of a problem child.

Re: RUMOR: Trade talks between Browns (Brady Quinn) and Broncos (Brandon Marshall)
he was actually thinking about cutting him. doesn't that tell you something about Marshall?

Yeah that's bad since Shanahan is known for giving bad character guys a chance |
Re: RUMOR: Trade talks between Browns (Brady Quinn) and Broncos (Brandon Marshall)
There's no way the Bronco's trade Marshall for Quinn.(Why would the Broncos want to trade with the Browns again? Didn't they learn their lesson when they traded for their entire defensive line a few years back?)
If he is traded, teams like the Ravens or the Dolphins look like a better match. They both need a big-time WR and that might put them over the edge to competing for a championship. |

He was a lot improved this year with Orton at QB I thought because instead of being a limiting factor on his quarterback when Cutler was there, he became a positive factor for Orton who doesn't have the type of downfield accuracy that Cutler does. But ultimately, Marshall's catch rate numbers and other value metrics are the same every year, which means that, even though his improvements have been evident, we really do know what he is at this point. And he's not a "true" No. 1, like an Owens, Moss, Wayne, Holt, or Vincent Jackson all in their primes. Like Braylon, he's an above average player who is expendable at a good price. |
