Yeah, we are going to have a conversation about Mike Furrey's inability to participate. |

haha might as well cut him now IMO |
Preseason game #3 vs. the Jets when the starters will play a lot of the game... now that will be a serious test. Especially for our offense. Their D is lights out, even without Revis. I'd love to cram a win down Rex Ryan's big fat pie hole.
I agree, the Jets are without a doubt our most formidable opponent in the preseason. What [IMO] was one of the most encouraging signs in the game against the Bills was the ability to sustain offense. There were at least two scoring drives covering 70yds. or more, something we haven't been accustomed too seeing around here in a while. So yeah! the Jets defense presents a real challenge and will surely test our ability to sustain offense. Should be a good match-up. |
Re: Pluses and Minuses: Bills vs Redskins
Although I think Hall isn't worth the $ and he's probably an average cover corner, he still is our best play maker in the secondary. I don't think I've seen him ever drop an Int. Dude has great hands.

Re: Pluses and Minuses: Bills vs Redskins
Saden1, I agree with you on all counts except that I did have confidence in K.Shanahan. He's a proven commodity. He proved himself in Houston. My concern was would his pass happy offense gel with his fathers run happy offense? I was worried we would end up with the Gibb2/Saunders failed expierment. Although Gibbs used a man to man blocking style and Saunders used zone I believe. So knowing both Shanahan's used zone blocking probably wouldn't be as big a deal. It seemed to work out fine.
Pluses: Finally an offensive scheme. 2 QB's capable of leading the offense. Better protection from the OL. WR's who seemed to know what they were doing. No major injuries. Minuses: We played the Bills. 1st team defense needs tweeking. (better push off the line) 1st team offense needs tweeking. (dirt balls, over throws, redzone running) special teams blocking. We played the Bills folks. Lets see what we have after Sat. when we play a play off team from last yr. Defense- did Kemo play? was he not getting a good enough push off the line? It would be nice to have him and AH to switch out often since AH gets tired quickly. I'm sure the offensive issues will get corrected by game 1. Special Teams.... what can I say, I'm not a fan of our position coach there. I'd like to have seen him fired also but it is what it is. It did look somewhat different though. the KR was not catching the ball with the opposing team in his face all the time. People are quick to praise Banks and then say he needs to work on his holding on to the ball. I saw his muff but he did recover and tried to make a play. Didn't Thomas do the same thing on the first kick off to us? or was that someone else? In a nut shell they looked 99% better then .... well .... almost 20 yrs. To me that is. I guess we will be better able to critique them after Sat. game but everything looked better. Scheme, routes, play calls, runs, passes, blocking, defensive pass rush, LB's, interception, KR. Maybe it's just me and a whole new start from top to bottom but they did remind me of Skins of old. Say Gibbs1. Even though they seemed to throw many plays out there I just get the feeling there was a lot held back still. I've always like Shanahan's thought process..... "this is my scheme, it's a great scheme, I have many weapons, I'll show you my plays, you just have to find a way to stop it." |

I think for the most part this is Kyle Shanahan's offense we're seeing. I'm sure Mike has some input, but this is Kyle's show. |
Re: Pluses and Minuses: Bills vs Redskins
For the first preseason game I was pretty happy with the way we played across the board. I actually think its good for players to make mistakes in preseason because they can learn from them. I do get mad at lazy uninspired play which I did not see Friday night.

Plus:
London Fletcher: So glad I was wrong about going after him. It's like he's been playing ILB in the 3-4 his whole career. Very lucky to have him on our team Ryan Torain: He runs too high? So did Eric Dickerson. Anyhow, happy to see him run well, otherwise all my praise of him would have been for naught. More importantly though, nice to see him back on the field less than two years after tearing his ACL. Minus: Chad Rinehart: So sad I was wrong about drafting him. Maybe he's just not totally healthy yet, but while everyone talks about cutting Kelly and whether he was a busted draft pick; I'm more concerned with Rinehart. Not sure there's a place for him on this roster Maake: Didn't seem to get much penetration at DT. He takes up space, but wasn't much of a difference maker |

There are a lot of similarities to Denver's offense though...moving the QB out of the pocket and having receivers (including TE) at various depths right in front of the QB. Also, the pulling linemen and straight-ahead running game. Not surprising if Kyle's system mirrors his father's though. But you're right, Kyle is calling the shots...even if he learned from his father. |

I was just making the point there's no melding of systems like we saw with Gibbs/Saunders or Zorn's passing game mixed with Gibbs' running game. |

Funny how HC's can come from the same coaching tree and yet have totally different looking styles. I so bad want to know which offense McNabb likes batter this one or his old Eagles. I know the answer would be politically correct though and he most likely would say this one. I look at Reids scheme and it looks old and tired and slow sometimes. It almost does not look like anything that came out of San Fran. I look at Holmgrens and it too looks slow sometimes but at times with the Seahawks it looked similar to Shanahan's which looks fast to me. I remember yrs ago people talking about the WCO supposed to be fast and needing smaller OL to get it done. Reid loves his big fat slow lineman. |

He was getting blown up almost every play and he gave up two sacks. |
