That was the first thing that I noticed, even without the replay. How you can mess up timing that badly is crazy. I'm hoping he lost it in the lights or something, but who knows.
I think it may something with eyes. He should get them checked since he may not be perceiving depth perfectly. I know DT had lasik in a prior offseason.
Haven't seen anything official but one would have to think Haslett was ok with it, he was primarily playing on passing downs so he was probably allowed some leeway to get up field. Otherwise I can't see why he would have been left in there.
Doubtful. Shooting the gap are staple for "Phillips" 3-4s, which I why I believe Haynesworth would fit better down there with the moo-moo bums. We have a Lebeau-influenced 3-4, so I think there's a mix of plays that ask the Dlinemen to two-gap and one-gap, but I can't be sure because there's so much to pay attention to.
has anyone found any qoutes from haslett or shanny re. whether haynesworth was supposed to be shooting the gap from NT?

Ive read every article posted in the warpaths news section and other articles to no avail.
Pretty good insight coming from a former linebacker.

Sounds like he shouldn't be shooting gaps then. Also seems to explain why Haslett wants him to play "with more power".

Re: Haslett's Defense

After today game I just wanted to point out that Hasletts defense has always been ranked low, like 12-27th in the league overall. However the defenses have been high turnover type defenses. You can definitely win with this defense, being that its only week two, so we haven't fully learned it, and the fact that the Saints won with a so-so overall defense last year and a great turnover defense.

Really the Question mark players on this defense are: Kemo, Andre Carter, the secondary as a whole, and sometimes Gholston. If we got a better NT, we would already be that much better.

Oh by the way, we have the worst defense in the NFL

32nd according to NFL.com...

Re: Haslett's Defense

5) Why is it that we can never get to Romo? I feel like every time any other team goes against him, they can get a few sacks against him, but when we go against them we make the whole OLine and the QB look like pro bowlers.

this has bothered me for years..i think it boils down to two reasons.

1. our defense (esp. the coaching staff) never seems to know what the other team (in this case Romo, dallas) is doing. This also applies to our yearly lack of interceptions as well.

2. it seems like other teams simply have better athletes than we do. And alot of that comes from stockpiling draft picks/having a younger team on the field.

The Bears didn't sack him at all. We sacked him once.

Re: Haslett's Defense

What is our defense ranked in PPG?

Id take 18.5 ppg with the offense we showed this past week, even with our questionable recieving corps.........

Yeah we're ranked 16th in the league in terms of PPG, not that good of a number IMO

The coaching staff thought process must be blitz blitz blitz they can't stop them all eventually we will get them.

I have to give it to Romo, he is amazingly elusive. No one out there is better than him when it comes to getting out of the pocket and escaping pressure.

Re: Haslett's Defense

Biggest concerns entering the season....
WR's...
Ability to run
Switch to 3-4 and Haslett as a d coordinator (always ranked lower than Blache and skins predicesors)

Well...its true...McNabb makes our lame WR's look better...
We cant run
We still likely cant stop the run and now we cant stop the pass.
Our top 10 Defense is now crap...I know it is only 2 weeks but...our defense has blown 2 games in the end...and we won one because of a penalty.

Starters such as Daniels are on the bench...DE's are playing out of position at LB, unknows are playing the Dline and our safetys have not been shored up....blitzing 75% of the time only works with killer cover guys...we have one or two of those tops...not 3-4.

Haslett is the weak link for sure on this coaching staff....we all knew it from the beginning.
It is time for him to fix this crappy defense and use more discression with the blitz...I wouldn't mind a little bit of smashing WR's at the line too...this 10-15 yards off crap is just as sucky as last year...the problem is because we blitz with no suprise...we don't get there and they are tearing up our secondary.

I'd be pleased with a 4-3 with the same players as last year with more aggressive play calling...that would likely yield a far better result with this personnel

Re: Haslett's Defense

To be fair I think we need to give this thing more than 2 games to call Haslett a weak link. We've gone up against two top offenses so far.

Perhaps...but you've got to admit...out of Shanny, Shanny JR and Haslett....that Haslett had the weakest coaching background results of the 3....not to mention Shanny's tendancy to select and churn through average D coordinators.

It is a shame...because, even though I was expecting a decline in defensive capability due to the scheme shift...I sure expected them to be able to force a few more punts than they have....due to their ability to stop offenses...not due to opponents errors such as the Dallas game.

Lets see how much yardage they give up to a crap team....especially late in the game.
I frankly cannot understand how you can give up that much yardage to an average team with a 17 pt lead late in the game...."prevent" would have yielded better results. The Houston game was a disgrace...great first impression!
