Re: Judge grants motion, lifts lockout; owners' appeal coming
I wish I knew. Not particularly familiar with labor law to begin with and anti-trust is a whole other specialty. THere are probably so many arcane legal rules at play here that it takes five lawyers sitting in a rooom just name half - not agree on them mind you, just name them.
I think ultimately, it will all be settled under the guise of a "legal fiction" which is the equivalent of "poetic license". |
Re: Judge grants motion, lifts lockout; owners' appeal coming
good on the Giants! You would think this kind of info would make it very awkward for other teams tomorrow if players decide to show up before the Judge makes her decision.

According to JLC the NFLPA is telling Agents that Free Agency is open and they should start contacting teams now. Another twist.

Teams aren't responding to agents' calls. I think that could change tomorrow night |

Re: Judge grants motion, lifts lockout; owners' appeal coming
Congratulations owners. Not only did you fumble in the court of public opinion while in the red zone but the players just took that fumble all the way to the house.
where is vinny when you need him??
Hopefully in Elba. Man that joke would have been funnier if you asked me where Snyder was but it still works. |
If I'm a GM right now I'd tell my owner to let free agency happen. I'm sure a lot of teams would not want to go into the draft without free agency. The owners can have their appeal after the draft.

Maybe it's not as much a risk now but apparently the league was going to go HARD after teams that did under the table deals during the lockout, and maybe with the Lockout lifted it gives them a little more leeway. However it's still a risk. |
Re: Judge grants motion, lifts lockout; owners' appeal coming
I had not thought much about this, but the undrafted college players could also file a suit against the NFL owners as well, if the lockout continues to long after the draft. . This whole anti-trust route some the players are taking in court could gain some traction and has to be scaring the owners a bit. It kind of smells rotten to me that some college players will drafted on Thursday and the others will be told to pound sand. PLus throw in all of the veteran unrestricted Free agent NFL players and that is a sh*tload of players. The owners need to be careful not expose themselves in attempt to grab more money. Reward to risk is starting to run high.

Re: Judge grants motion, lifts lockout; owners' appeal coming
One more question for any and everyone: Is it possible that the NFL goes to Congress and somehow circumvents the judicial branch?

Re: Judge grants motion, lifts lockout; owners' appeal coming
Yep, cant sign UDFA's either......
There is going to be one hellacious flurry of activity once this crap gets settled. |
Well it seem that there is still uncertainty in regards to free agency. I still can't believe that teams are passing up the opportunity to temporarily have free agency.

Sent from my Samsung Epic 4G using Tapatalk
Are they still under 2010 rules or can they pick up any free agent? Would tenders and franchise tags still apply? These things have to be sorted out before they can actually start the league year... |
