Re: John Beck Era Begins
They had to make this move. I know guys supported Rex, he may be a great guy and all, but 18 turnovers here in 8 starts? C'mon man.
Clearly from past posts, we both seen this coming. And to be honest, I don't believe Rex had the majority of the locker room so I don't think it will be a interruption or that big of a loss for the few that have voiced their opinion on keeping Rex. I bet most of the players are as excited as we are to see what Beck can do in a starting position with the surrounding cast of talent. He will change the dynamics of our offense. Between his mobile abilities plus his quick reads added to a trio of great RB's I see our offense moving much faster and confusing Defenses a little more with less telegraphing. Now will it be enough to change the W/L column? Thats a wait and see but I for one am very excited to see Beck get a chance. He has been extremely professional in the way he handled being #2. He kept himself prepared week after week for the nod. He deserves this opportunity. HTTR!!!!! |
A better question: does McNabb make the HOF? If you only look at his body of work at Philly you could make a case.
No. He had a Bernie Kosar-type career. One of the better QBs in the game while he was at his peak, but never got over the hump. His teams were close to the Super Bowl most years, but never won at the end. Kosar is not in the HOF, McNabb won't be either...at least any time soon. |

"The Red-Headed Stranger's"' greatness shall silence them all.
So we got our starting QB for Doug Dutch.
I don't know whether to cheer for a brilliant personnel move or to cry because we have a Doug Dutch-quality starting QB.
Is Hightower better than Holliday? I think we took advantage of several teams. Allen and Shanahan do know how to build teams. It can't be done overnight though. |
Re: John Beck Era Begins
One (of many) things that worry me about Beck was the scramble where he fumbled the ball. I mean Holy Cow, nobody touched him, he just knocked it loose himself. I guess I believe we will see 1-3 turnovers a game with Beck at QB, just hope his mobility makes up for those ones.
He fumbled a lot I believe back in 2007 as well. 7 times in 4 games, or something like that. Can't let that happen |
Re: John Beck Era Begins
I think you are missing the very 1st decision, and it was from that one that every other decision followed.
The 1st decision was that the rest of the team could not sustain a raw qb's growth. Thus, his actions all were predicated on building a fundamentally sound team where he could draft his guy, and have him have success. From that, the only questionable decision was getting rid of Campbell, but I have already said that, atleast in my opinion, that was simply moving a guy to clear out past history, so when he does bring in his guy, there are no divided loyalties.
Um...what he's missing is...no Colt Brennan!! **runs and hides** |
Re: John Beck Era Begins
Great Move. I see this being the 2000 Ravens QB decision when they benched Tony Banks for Trent Dilfer.

Re: John Beck Era Begins
one thing is for sure. I'll be happy for at least one Sunday without rex grossman. The question that remains though, is will it be only one sunday without grossman?
Come on Beck. Gotta run with this chance. Prolly wont have many more chances to become a legit starter in this league after this one. |

It might have to do with the fact he holds the ball like my 7-year-old niece. I'll get used to it though, at least he's faster than my niece (unlike Rex). God bless the Beck era. False hope is better than none. :headbange |

Re: John Beck Era Begins
There was no other choice. He turned over the ball 2.3 times for the past eight games. He is what he has always been - the year he went to the Superbowl, he had 20 INTs and lost five fumbles. In the last seven games of that season, he turned the ball over eighteen times. The Chicago Bears got where they were that year because of their D; they got there because the D that allowed less than 100 yards per game showed up EVERY game (unlike ours), and could overcome Rex's turnovers.
We are very lucky we are not 1-4 instead of 3-2 because of his mistakes. He needed to be sat in the corner ever since the Dallas game when it was apparent to everyone in the world watching MNF that he was STILL the same Rex whose two INTs and two fumbles constantly shifted momentum back to the Colts in Superbowl XLI - who eventually took over that game and almost blew the Bears out in the 4th. Shanny made the right move and told him to take a nap. If Beck can just keep from turning the ball over and is slightly better than Rex, I am of the mind that it will have a measurable impact on how our O performs. He doesn't need to be great, just a little bit better than Rex and not as prone to boneheaded turnovers. We'll see. He looked better in the pocket and under pressure than Rex. The sky isn't falling, yet... |

Agreed, just "keeping it real". I'm pretty excited for the Beck era to begin. If Rex was starting I'd be depressed all week. I'm on the Beckwagon 100%. |

Hey what happened to that turd who did nothing but spout off about how great Rex was?
