I don't know. I can understand the way Gaffney probably felt going into to that game against the Panthers last year. When you're producing on a weekly basis and contributing and then coaches tell you that you are going to be knocked down on the depth chart and replaced by receivers who aren't playing as well as you, you would be disappointed too.

Was Mike Shanahan trying to test Jabar Gaffney? If so, why? The guy is your most productive wide out.

I remember how I was passed over for a supervisor position years ago and the job was given to someone who wasn't as qualified as I was. My attitude changed too if only for a little while because I didn't want to give as much effort to my job as I once had before I was passed over. So I can relate to Gaffney.

Forget Mike Shanahan if I were him. He has the chance to resume his NFL career with a head coach that will appreciate what he brings.

His demotion may have something to do with what Smoot said. (him half assing some routes) Even so, he's a professional and being paid as such. If anything, the demotion should lit a fire under his ass to perform better, and not to sulk with this sense of self entitlement.

According to Redskins.com the Skins have 10 WRs on their roster counting Gaffney right now. With Garcon and Morgan being signed, and up and coming guys like Hankerson, Austin and Niles Paul, Gaffney becomes a little bit of overlap don't you think?
Plus Santana Moss, is still a starter in my mind. How many receivers can you get on the field when you also consider that either Davis or Cooley will always be out there as well.
I think Gaffney is a salary cap causalty.
:/ Three years into his career and we're already facing the threat of losing two key players for a year due to drug abuse (and we have to live with that threat for the rest of their careers). I hope TW and FD pan out, I really do, but damn if they aren't idiots.

thanks
I went back and looked and it does appear that their drug intervention program allows them to reset the record (so to speak) if they go through Drug Stage 2 intervention without going to Stage 3. I think stage 2 lasts two years. If they are in stage 3 of the program, then they will not get to reset their records from the looks of it. Since they've failed 3 drug tests, they very well could be in Stage 3 and they have to be clean the rest of their career.
Completion of Stage Two: A player who completes Stage Two
without being advanced to Stage Three will be afforded the same
status as a player who had never by Behavior or a Positive Test
been referred to the Intervention Stages.
Also to note. If a player is in stage 3, he's in it for the rest of his career so no mulligans it looks like.
Term: A player in Stage Three will remain in Stage Three
for the remainder of his NFL career.
I'll edit my prior response so people aren't misled.

Jabar Gaffney will call into ESPN 980 in the 3:00 hour to speak with Doc and BMitch.

We swapped 6th rounders for adam carriker...ill be happy if we can move up one spot in the 7th for gaffney. I don't think he actually tweeted those things because they the verbiage was nothing like he has ever used before. But he's a 32 year old backup receiver...cmon.

6th rounder before the draft or bring him to camp and then cut him.

Re: Jabar Gaffney Told to Seek A Trade

It would seem like Gaffney is worth a 6th or 7th round pick. But if there was a player on any team other than those playing in the NFC Eastern division that is equal to Gaffney in worth, who would it be?

I can see trading him to New England for Chad Johnson or maybe to Seattle for Marcus Trufant. Or maybe trade Gaffney to Oakland for Brandon Underwood who is a decent corner back.

Chad Johnson or Marcus Trufant? Yeesh. 2005 called, they want their elite players back. If we are going to trade Gaffney I would try to trade him to a receiver needy team for an under-the-radar guy.

Maybe we could trade him for Carlos Rogers or Ryan Clark
