I expect he'll be back, but keep in mind technically he was waived so it's possible someone will claim him today. We shall see
explain this more in terms of when you don't become waived and you can just go straight to the practice squad without him being 'waived' |

Well even for the practice squad you're waived first. Neild was waived/injured and since no one has claimed him he's on the IR for the Redskins. Now he doesn't count against the 90 man pre-season roster. |

Now he doesn't count against the 90 man pre-season roster.
I know the whole practice squad waiving thing. But for example, when Adrian Peterson tore his ACL last year, his 5th year in the league, and him playing more than 75% of the season, they put him on IR. He went straight there and didn't have to be cut. Chris Neild is a 2nd year player who made the 53 man roster and played more than 8 games for us last year, but yet he has to be cut to go to IR. Is it because he hasn't played in the NFL that long? Or is it because he was a 7th rounder as opposed to a 1st rounder? |
re: Neild Placed on IR, Redskins Add DL Marlon Favorite
The NFL's waiver wire process applies to players who have less than four seasons of league experience and are released from any of the league's 32 teams. Once a player with less than four seasons of league experience is cut or released from a team, the other 31 teams are given the chance to claim the player from the waiver wire. A team that claims a player from the waiver wire assumes the terms of the original contract agreed upon between the player and the team that released him.

Re: Neild Placed on IR, Redskins Add DL Marlon Favorite
I wonder what if anything Favorite will provide for this team and why they signed him?
Favorite (6-1, 317) was originally signed as a college free agent by the Carolina Panthers on May 1, 2009. He spent portions of the 2009 season on the practice squads of the St. Louis Rams, Kansas City Chiefs, Seattle Seahawks and New Orleans Saints. He spent part of the 2010 offseason with the Buffalo Bills before signing with the Indianapolis Colts on May 18, 2010. He was released by the Colts on Sept. 4 of that year. He was added to the New England Patriots’ practice squad on Jan. 5, 2011, before being released by the Patriots on Aug. 5. He signed with the Philadelphia Eagles three days later and was released by the Eagles on Aug. 26. He signed with the St. Louis Rams on Aug. 31 until being released on Sept. 3.
|

If you add all that up, it's craziness. ~10 teams in 3 years. He's been the hottest pickup in the offseason every year (by arguably some of the best teams in the league - Colts, Patriots, Saints, Eagles) --- but he's never been on an active NFL roster during the season. He's now my Favorite player. Our team wins the offseason every year, and he clearly does as well.. |
Re: Neild Placed on IR, Redskins Add DL Marlon Favorite
Holy Hell! 10 teams! Wow. It doesn't matter because he's not making the team but wow
|
Re: Neild Placed on IR, Redskins Add DL Marlon Favorite
I assume he is just depth to get the Skins thru the month of August and then he is gone. He is not making the team, just getting a paycheck until September starts.

Re: Neild Placed on IR, Redskins Add DL Marlon Favorite
Yeah, preseason roster spot.
What a career though. Maybe someday he can tell the grandkids he played for EVERY NFL team. :D |
Re: Neild Placed on IR, Redskins Add DL Marlon Favorite
well, not to make light of a serious injury or anything, but if we had to have a player go to IR, I rather it be our #3 DT than say, trent or garcon or, you know.

Re: Neild Placed on IR, Redskins Add DL Marlon Favorite
I can't say I'm overly excited about the Redskins signing Favorite. The man has been waived so many times by so many teams which means he's not that good.
