It all depends on how the policy is worded and if the Union agrees to it. Part of the negotiation is to have applied to all players suspended this year for testing positive prior to the season. The policy is not being unilaterally imposed but is being through negotiations with the players union. From the article linked within the cited article:

While I am not 100% certain b/c I don't do much employment law, pretty sure if the NFLPA agrees to it, the NFL is protected from litigation by the players (past or present).
Why wouldn't former NFL players be able to sue say the NFLPA if they agreed to only include those suspended this year? Think of the lost wages that players could regain due to their suspensions.

Pretty sure that when you join any union, you assign it the right to negotiate for you, and in the same vane, barring pure negligence or gross misconduct, you agree to abide by the agreements the union settles on. Sometimes a vote is required, but I doubt the handful of players that might benefit from what you are talking about, would be outweighed by the majority of the players who see the whole tradeoff as a good thing.

Unions would fall apart if each time an individual member could sue the union each time he/she was unhappy about a negotiated policy.

Couldn't that be argued by the former and current ones who's had wages lost due to suspensions.

Absolutely. It makes watching Seattle games very difficult. The Skins are light years away from what Seattle is doing.

Count on it.

Pro sports players unions are not unions in the true sense of the word. I never knew a union where individual members were able to negotiate their own pay. If the NFLPA were a true union a QB would make QB pay, a LB make LB pay, etc. Players would not work out their own compensation.

I was thinking the same thing last night, heck i was even curious if we were in the class with Green Bay. I thought Eddie Lacy looked pretty durn tough himself. Too bad about the concussion guess he'll be out a month.

Well D Jax has been used mostly for stretching the field in Philly. Seattle does that too, but mostly gets the ball to him in space in short underneath routes, screen, sweeps and direct snaps. Id like to see us use DJax in the same capacity and use Roberts as more the stretch slot guy.

If you watched Seattle last night, they line up Harvin all over the field just as Minnesota did: backfield, slot and outside. That was done to get the favorable match up, which twice I saw Percy matched up with a LB. Folks thats not gonna work. Even if a safety picks up Percy one on one, thats a major problem.

The skins are not in the class of the Packers. Certain teams like the Packers always make the playoffs. The skins haven't been that for a loooong time. I think they might be improving, but we will see.

Are the wheels already coming off the Bills wagon before the season even starts? I have a feeling the Browns will be getting two picks within the top 5 in next years draft. Theirs and the Bills.

I love that the two best teams (Seattle & SF) in the NFL are mostly winning with intimating defense and a strong running game and not a prolific passing game.
I guess the rule changes and enforcing the ones on the books is not enough to let the golden boy QB's shine.

Kind of funny actually. As much as the NFL tries to make it a "QB driven league"..... Seattle in their last two games trounced Peyton Manning and Aaron Rogers, arguably the two best QB outside of Brees and Brady.

If Seattle's defense keeps dominating, soon you will hear the press use words like boring and bad for ratings. Then more rule changes will come.
And they'll continue to overhype R. Wilson.

I doubt it, the negotiations at the time were done in good faith by both sides. And there was no dissension in the voting. Again, if they have clear and overwhelming evidence to show either fact, then they should present the case, but the burden would absolutely be on the players making the claim versus the NFLPA at this point.

True, unfortunately the Skins are closer to the likes of Cleveland, Oakland and Buffalo than perennial playoff contenders like GB, Seattle, and NE. Sad but true.

i wouldnt discount RG3 so quickly. he hasnt had a chance to showcase what a healthy RG3 looks like. He looked good against the browns when we called plays applicable for him vs that vanilla lets-work-on-things crap we rolled out against the ravens.

I would agree. I remember a while back people were debating whether or not the Skins were worst than Cleveland for the past 15 years... Just because that was a debate shows how sad the Skins have been.
