I say the skins go back to the power blocking scheme and 4-3 defense. I want maulers, not some light OLinemen that get pushed around. I laugh at the results of the poll in link below.

As I mentioned earlier, a commitment to dominating the line of scrimmage would be a good starting point. That was Redskins football during the glory years, and we have gotten away from that. I am so done with the Shanahan Principle of small athletic O-linemen. Give me cavemen with a mean streak like Tre Johnson all day and twice on Sundays.

This is such Santa Claus riding a unicorn mentality that the fanbase and front office (unfortunately) have. It is not a player issue. We've 'focused' on the OL, they just failed miserably. It's not about the players, it's all about who is picking them.

We need so much, I voted for the "get rid of the crew/other". The upside is that we need very few weapons. The bad side is that the supporting cast for them nees a lot. I think Breeland will pan out nicely, but we need a SOLID DB, o line.
My big concern is that why is out team so bad a developing players? We sign some pretty bad people, but I don't see any improvement from anyone. I could be that they are garbage, but I'm leaning towards our position coaches and why they can't develop anyone.

Only one thing will start the process of fixing the organization. Snyder has to fire himself.

Hire a competent GM ..... not named AJ Smith.

He has been in-house for awhile with Allen and the DS.

We need someone who is not BFFs w Allen.

We need someone who will have autonomy from allen/DS.

We need someone whose ability to get the job doesnt depend on how well he or she fakes having a good time watching the Superbowl with the DS and Allen.

Good luck with that. It seems that the whole point of owning the team is to provide Snyder with friends.

im guessing they decided before this season started that they would not speak to the media until after the season = to try and limit in-season distractions.

unfortunately ... all those leaks came out and there was a ton of in-season but off-field distraction anyway ...

the result = rookie head coach jay gruden is left to face the firing squad week after week answering roster, personnel and GM related questions alone ....

really hope bruce doesnt think naming AJ as the GM answers all questions and absolves him.

edit ----- some quotes from Allen's season ending presser last year 12/30/13

On who will have control over player personnel moving forward:
“The control will be mine, and it will be working with our personnel department. The personnel department of [Director of Player Personnel] Scott Campbell and [Director of Pro Personnel] Morocco Brown actually do a very good job at what they do. We are going to redefine some of the characteristics that we’re looking for in players. Obviously when we have a new head coach there will be some schematic adjustments that we will make, but that power will be with me.”

On if they will redefine front office roles:
“No, we’re going to keep everybody in their role and we’re going to make sure they can focus on their job that they have to do. They’ll be involved in the interview process. They will be involved as they have been in talking to some of the coaches today. We feel comfortable with them. It doesn’t mean we might not add somebody to the personnel department, but we feel we have a good personnel department that has been interviewed for other positions and we’re comfortable with it now.”

On if continuity not breeding success is a problem that goes deeper than the head coaching position:
“No, not at all. You can look at teams that turn around in one year — I think the greatest example is Philadelphia and Kansas City — [Kansas City] Coach [Andy] Reid did a great job with the Chiefs. He just left Philly and they didn’t perform well but the new coach came in and led them to the division title. If we find the right person, we will have the stability that we all want in the NFL.”

^^^ last year at this time he thought we were one good HC away? and the problems were not deeper organizational problems?

On how responsible he feels for this season and the record over the last four years:
“I feel very responsible. I think I said that at the beginning that everyone here feels responsible, and in my position it’s what creates the pain because I can see where we want to go, I can feel where we want to go, and I know that the players have that same drive. So I feel responsible for it. We’re all accountable for our record. That’s the great thing, once again, about sports. I’m 3-13 as is Tony Wyllie over here.”

^^^ the PR guy is as much responsible for 3-13 as the president?
Gruden said about the decision. “Because I work closely with the quarterbacks also, and [McVay], and I figured I didn’t want to have too many voices preaching. But I think next year, if we have a spot on staff, there is a possibility we could add another guy to that area.
a bit more lukewarm than i remembered it.

as for firing the OL and switching to a power blocking scheme, you guys should join the chorus of "our defense is only bad cause it's not a 4-3." Your getting caught up in semantics and maybe not actually watching the run game. we do some of both, just like our D actually plays a LOT of 4-3.

our guys are generally lighter and better at zone blocking, our run game in ZB has been fine, and the coaching has been fine. our OL is more speed than power though, so switching to a system that doesn't fit the players you have (or could get in one offseason) is a really stupid idea. the whole point of ZBS is that you can get cheap guys and get a good run game out of them. we've been bad in pass pro for a while though, and part of that is the players we have just aren't that great at it.

we've got a great LT, a very good C. both OG spots at a bit meh, and RT has been an issue for a while, but saying to blow up it just shows that you're not considering or concerned with the fact that you can't just go out and buy an entire new OL in FA or draft one and get them ready to start in one offseason. our scouting department has also been extremely bad at scouting OL, since we've seen 2 reaches not work out and a big money contract given to a very forgettable FA.

It comes down to inferior play at both guard positions. If you consider signing FA's like Lauvau and Chester, and drafting guys in the 3rd round or later addressing the issue, then expect more mediocrity. Trent Williams and Cory Lichtensteiger are the only legit starting O-linemen on our roster today. If we ever hope to dominate in the trenches again, it starts with drafting linemen in the first two rounds, something that this team has done just twice in 15 Dan Snyder drafts (Trent Williams and Jarvis Jenkins).

I think, personally, the most important thing that needs to happen this off season is finding a girlfriend. It would instantly shore up my ability to have something else to so on Sundays.

Re: What is the MOST important off-season change?

ESPN Cleveland suggests Kirk Cousins may be the Browns' "prime target" as they search for a quarterback this offseason.

Browns OC Kyle Shanahan is fond of Cousins, who was drafted by the Shanahans in 2012 with Washington. If Cleveland plays its cards right, it should be able to acquire Cousins for a late-round pick. The Browns reportedly tried to trade for Cousins during the 2014 draft, offering the Redskins a fourth-round pick. At the time, the Skins wanted "at least a second." Browns beat writer Tony Grossi expects Cousins to be the Browns' "top target" this offseason.

per rotoworld...

number one target, huh? thats how the factory of sadness rolls

Heavens forbid she turns out to be a Redskins.
