Re: We all knew it was coming...
No new Sean Taylor avatar?! Guess we'll have to keep chad morton as whatever rank CRT3 is!
Skinsguy - did you notice how ST was crucified by the DC media? When he got pulled over for drunk driving (innocent), missing 1 day of the rookie synopsis, etc, etc, etc. I think he's basicly upset about a lot of that stuff and want's to get his head straight. I think he'll be okay. |
Re: We all knew it was coming...
Hardball is a MF. I can't believe Taylor signed that contract. Although he was drafted fifth overall, he is a safety (shouldn't that be considered?). Was Rosenhaus his agent at the time? The real question is how much more does he want? If he continues to have a healthy and productive career, there will come a time for another big payday. Unfortunately, tomorrow is not guaranteed. He's not at the level of Ed Reed or Roy Williams. And I would like to know what these guys played for with their rookie contracts. :oink:

Re: We all knew it was coming...
As much as I hate to say this; the Redskins are one team partly responsible for Taylor's flawed ambition. The same thing that will make you laugh, will make you cry. Last year when they took Portis off Denver's hands in a very simular situation they set the stage for this kind of behavior. The only difference, Portis changed teams, and I would imagine Taylor's desire is to remain with the Redskins, but for more money. No strange coincidence then that somehow Portis seems to be his liason to the team. He can't communicate with the coaching staff for whatever his reasons, but somehow manages to relate through another player.
This very time last year we were discussing charachter issues in deciding which players to consider drafting, KW II or ST. Somehow we thought we were getting the better end of the deal in taking ST but it seems to be getting to a point where it's a toos up between the two. Charachter was a point of emphasis that Gibbs placed great demand, but it could be that we have struck out on ST despite his physical attributes. "You pay them millions, and then have to beg them to show up" Joe Gibbs Nowhere, other than in proffessional sports would this form of stupidity be rewarded. |

Ed Reed: Signing bonus in 2002 of $3,625,000. Salaries: 2002-$275,000 2003-$443,750 (plus $1,300 in "other" bonuses) 2004-$512,500 (plus $500 in "other" bonuses) and I've heard he's scheduled to make about $560-570,000 in 2005. Roy Williams: Signing bonus of $4,000,000 in 2002, and another bonus in 2003 of $5,300,000. Salaries: 2002-$1,000,000 2003-$366,667 (plus $4,000 in "other" bonuses) 2004-$616,667 (plus $3,800 in "other" bonuses) Sean Taylor: Singing bonus of $7,200,000 in 2004. Salaries: 2004-$230,000 (plus $730,000 in "other" bonuses) $7.2 Million signing bonus we already gave him, pluse he earned almost another $1 Million in salary and bonuses last year AS A ROOKIE SAFETY, and this guy is complaining about his contract? Are you kidding me? It was all up front money..........guaranteed up front money, and he's complaining? |
Re: We all knew it was coming...
Honestly, if we're going to take what Gibbs and Portis are saying, I don't think he is complaining about his contract. I think (so far) that rumor has been put to rest for the moment. However, not showing up because he's burnt out from football, that is nearly as worrysome.

Re: We all knew it was coming...
I wish someone would enslave me to the tune of what these ball players make.

That, to me, is actually more worrysome. Dollars and cents can be worked out........a headcase is a headcase. I sincerely hope he's not burned out already, or you can just forget wanting to please this guy now in order to keep him around for the glory years that everyone is promising. You actually have to want to play football to be a Pro Bowler. |
Re: We all knew it was coming...
taylor had 13 solo tackles last year... only 13..., give him a couple years before considering the big money.

Huh? NFL.com lists him as having 60 solo |
Re: We all knew it was coming...
it's nice to see that huge disparity in yes's to no's cuz he has done absolutely nothing to warrant a new contract. If anything his off the field stuff, even the items dismissed or minor, added up have proven he shouldn't be given a new contract if that's what this is all about. The main thing that bugs me about this more than other similar situations is that he's practically ignored Gibbs' attempts to get in touch.
Huh?
NFL.com lists him as having 60 solo
then i wonder why espn has these stats listed in the linked article about this: Tot Ast Solo FF Sack Int 76 63 13 2 1 4 http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2062608 |
Re: We all knew it was coming...
He wasn't burned out from football. Portis was saying that he wanted to be out of the spot-light and scrutiny for a while... He was under some Self INduced heat last year and in the offseason no one is watching his every move and he is enjoying it right now. I think That is the point Portis is trying to make.

Re: We all knew it was coming...
huh. i wish there was a place where all stats were real, cuz if nfl.com and espn.com both have different stats for the same player, i don't know what to believe. not only that, but madden doesn't have the same stats too.

Tackles aren't an official stat, so they tend to differ source to source. |
