Re: 2016 NFL Draft News
But seriously ...
I just don't follow college ball close enough. Are Goff and Wentz more of a "sure thing" than Winston and Mariotta were last year? To me, it seems they are a cut below both of them. This smacks of desperation to me. If they do go QB, then the QB's will have gone 1 and 2 three times in the last four years (2012, 2015, & 2016). The three times before 2012 QB's went 1 & 2 were: 1999 (Tim Couch, McNabb (Akili Smith went No. 3); 1998 (Manning, Leaf); and 1993 (Bledsoe, Rick Mirer). Here's hoping that whoever they chose is the next Rick Mirer (Sure, it would be nice if it turned into an epic fail of Leaf-like proportions but just don't see that happening). |

The Rams trade up to #1 is purely showboating by their owner IMO. He wants a popular QB from the area (Goff) to sell tickets. And the fact that he was too busy trying to move the team to LA and leave the teams in the hands of Mr. Mediocrity. The Eagles trade is desperation, as they don't want to gamble on Bradfords health or Chase Daniel. I think they could have gotten by with those two QBs and either develop a QB or have high enough of a pick next year to get one. |

He played really good at times but was inconsistent. However, he played on a trash team. His OL sucked horribly and he showed good poise in the pocket dealing with the rush and also was good at completing throws while under pressure. I still havent gotten what people see in Wentz. While he is an athletic QB with good arm skills. He completed a horrible percentage when under pressure. He also played on a stacked team for his division so was rarely under pressure or was rarely throwing to receivers that were covered (his backup went 7-0 this year when Wentz was hurt, so pretty stacked team). He did play in a pro offense, so his adjustment wont be as big as Goffs. I get that he should be drafted, maybe even in the first round due to QBs being given a multiple round jump on their rankings due to the position. But talk about him as 1 or 2 to me is way to high. Of course, Tom Brady went in the 6th as well as Leaf, Russell, RG3, and a few others going at the top so its somewhat of a crap shoot with QBs. Wentz may turn out to be a stud but from what limited film I have seen about him doesnt make me think he is the next great thing in the NFL. I think Wentz needs a couple of years backing up imo. The problem is you draft a QB early now in the NFL and they are force fed the starting position and a fair amount get ruined by impatient coaches and GMs. |

Re: 2016 NFL Draft News
surprised the browns decided against a QB. RG3 isn't going to look good behind that line this year, and fans are going to be pretty mad. long term it helps them though, assuming that can grab a QB next year (there's a good chance they could get another top 5 pick).
the iggles... man. they'll be paying something like 31m/31m/13m for 3 qbs over the next 2-3 years. i don't really understand the plan there. |

There's probably a better QB class coming out next year than this year. That being said, I didn't really get to keep up with college ball much this past year, but I kept up with it enough to know in the past of what teams would have. This year, just seems like an off year for college QBs. I guess we'll find out! |

Re: 2016 NFL Draft News
The mock drafts after the first 20 picks are all over the place. Hackenburg is being mentioned as a possible first now. And Mayock has him at #100.
|
Re: 2016 NFL Draft News
I'm only semi surprised that Hackenburg is mentioned in the 1st.
The QB situation in this league right now has gone apeshit. We could see Glennon, Kapperdick, Foles, and Bradford all traded on draft day. |
