Re: Are we a top 10 team?
If the season ended today we would be a wild card, so yes we are absolutely top 10 right now, it's not even debatable really when you look at it from that view.
For anyone who disagrees please list at least ten teams that are better.
Yes 12 teams make it, but this is my point. List ten teams better than us if you disagree. Like i said i bet we beat one of them. Only Houston and Detroit are in the conversation as far as teams that even qualify for the conversation that we did not beat. |
Re: Are we a top 10 team?
Another rant, I've kinda had it with the Cousins/INT thing. In his last 19 games he's thrown 33 TDs and 10 INTs. He's got 7 this year, well less than 1 per game. Can we please drop this already?

Re: Are we a top 10 team?
I don't think we are a top ten team. I think our red zone offense, as bad as it has been is why we cannot be top ten. If we could fix the problems in the red zone, i think we crack the top ten.
But the defense has stepped up and it seems like now we have a fair running game with Robert Kelly. Cousins seems to have the INT's under control if not at least manageable, so i think the next few games are winnable. Winning 4 out of 7 will be a fair challenge, but we might get hot at the right time and the other teams might slump. We could get surprised and find out that 8-7-1 gets us the wildcard spot...
I agree our red zone play is a problem that needs to be fixed, but even with those issues we're still 12th in points per drive. If we can figure out the red zone, at the rate we move the ball that far (4th most trips in the league) this would go from a good offense to an elite one. Keeping in mind how good we were in the red zone last year I expect us to improve quite a bit Also some other stats I came across: this offense is 5th in the league in time of possession per drive, 5th in plays per drive, and 2nd in yards per drive. I feel like Jay and Sean do not get enough credit for what they've done here the last two years. Kirk too for that matter |

I think we all agree on: Patriots, Cowboys, Seahawks, Chiefs, Raiders I would put in the discussion, without being sure they're better than us: Falcons, Cardinals, Broncos. Thats seven, max. After that ? We beat the Ravens, the Steelers beat us but haven't played good since, the Texans' Offense sucks to bad for them to be in the conversation. We beat the Vikings. The Lions can be in the conversation because they beat us even if I still think we are a better team than them. It could be eight, admitting the Lions are ahead of us. But I cannot find nine. So I guess so far we're a top 10 team. Admitting Big Ben had been healthy we probably would be putting the Steelers ahead of us but we'd still be 10th, at worse. |
Re: Are we a top 10 team?
12. Washington Redskins (73.5)
Trent Williams has been the league’s best left tackle this season, and even moonlighted successfully inside at guard when injury forced a reshuffle on the line. RT Morgan Moses and RG Brandon Scherff on the right side have been impressive, but Shawn Lauvao has been an issue at left guard. Lauvao has surrendered 24 total QB pressures so far this season, fourth-most among guards. Spencer Long hasn’t been anything special in the middle, but he does at least represent a huge upgrade over their play at the position a year ago, ranking 22nd in PFF grade, rather than 30th and 36th, as the Redskins centers did in 2015. https://www.profootballfocus.com/pro-ranking-all-32-nfl-offensive-lines-entering-week-11/ I thought we should be higher but PFF does have a point ... we are weak at LG and average at C. They make no mention of only giving up 11 or so sacks so far this year. |
Are we a top 10 team?
A lot of credit to the low sack number has to go to how quickly Cousins gets the ball out. When he's on rhythm nobody gets close.

Yup, and his ability to read the D pre-snap and correctly know where pressure is coming from and how much time he has. He makes it look easy. |

That is, if Nsekhe does as well in the next three games as he did last week. Then we would have a truly bad-ass OL. Feel free to fire away but, before you do, just imagine the inside running game we would have with that lineup. |
Re: Are we a top 10 team?
I'll stick with the conventional wisdom that you want your best lineman at left tackle. Especially a guy with Trent's athleticism. What he does is pretty unique.

I looked for some video of Trent at guard but found this article that I didnt see before, pretty funny stuff. “I saw Ty [Nsekhe] coming in so I was like, 'We’ve got ourselves a 6-foot-8 left guard. Alright, we’re going to make it happen,’” Williams said he first thought when the injury occurred. “Then he pointed to me and said, ‘Guard.’ And I was like, ‘What? No, not me.’ He said, ‘Yeah, coach said go to guard.’ I didn’t have much time to debate about it. I just had to do it." Despite Williams’ experience, making the mid-game change to a new position is a huge adjustment. He was initially a bit reluctant to take on the spot. “There was no discussion,” Williams said. “I wanted a little debate. I wanted to at least ask a couple questions, but it was a, ‘Hey you’re at left guard. You’ve got to do what you’ve got to do. We don’t have anybody else. … I only had 30 second to think about it and I just had to go (with) the flow.” Despite Never Playing Guard In His Life, Trent Williams Impressed |
Re: Are we a top 10 team?
Speaking of O lines ... Packers are pretty banged up.
Starting LT Bakhtiari has been limited in practice all week and seems to be playing injured for weeks now. Starting guard TJ Lang is DNP and will probably be out on Sunday. Starting C Tretter has been DNP this week and has missed the past few weeks. Packers.com | Injury Report Lots of doom and gloom over at the Packers board. Fans calling for Mike McCarthy are real. First post of their gameday thread: "At this point I just hope we don't get embarrassed on National television." "I hope MM is playing on to score at least 40 points. I wouldnt even be mad if we lose I would be pissed if TT or MM isnt gone at the end of this season." "I'm at the point where I don't care if we lose as long as it results in McCarthy and/or Capers being fired within the next few months." I remember from seasons past when we would be up against teams like New England, the hope was that we wouldn't be humiliated on a national stage. In fact I remember Joe Gibbs stating plainly that New England was the toughest team that he had ever faced in his career. |
