Re: Number Seven Belongs To Thiesman
Are you talking about Len Dawson's #16 with the Chiefs or Joe Montana's #16 with the 49ers?
Montana won 5 rings and is regarded as a top 5 QB of all time by many. Joe Theisman was a good QB not Elite. |

4 rings. You meant Joey T's #7, I gotcha. |

Re: Number Seven Belongs To Thiesman
i know joe t. won a super bowl here. but think people would be surprised if they looked at his stats. very average. but benefited from that strong running game

Re: Number Seven Belongs To Thiesman
Danny Wuerffel is weeping in a corner somewhere.
#7 won a Heisman, won a National Championship in the Sugar Bowl, wore #17 with the Redskins. Am I crazy or did he also wear #14 with us at one point? |
Is that a feather in Theismann's cap, or an indication of just how inept the Skins have been since?
Thank you, hell the man's name is in the team ring of honor!!

And that's good enough. It's just a number. Seriously ... Just a number. |
Re: Number Seven Belongs To Theismann
Look, I know that his number isn't retired, but having your number set aside signifies that you've done special things in your career for yourself and your team..but Joe may give it to the kid anyhow!

The defenses Steve Young had did not compare to Joe's. I think if you swapped them out the results would have been a lot closer. |

Different era. Different time. That was back when having an elite running back was worth more than the quarterback. But still, Joey T got the 'skins to two Super Bowls. In the end, if Theismann is OK with Haskins wearing #7, then I'm OK with it too. If JT had an issue with it, then I'm sure Haskins would have been OK wearing Doug Williams' old number. I think it's going to bring us good luck having #7 out there again. |
Re: Number Seven Belongs To Theismann
What was JT supposed to say? Of course he's going to give his blessing. But if you got him off the record and behind closed doors, he'd probably say he prefers Haskins wear another #.

Re: Number Seven Belongs To Theismann
I still think it was classy of Joe T. to offer Haskins his number. He didn't have to do it.

Re: Number Seven Belongs To Theismann
Ultimately it’s up to the team to give out a number. I would hope behind the scenes Joe has not only said ok to Haskins but the team checked with him too.

Re: Number Seven Belongs To Theismann
Weve been losing seasons for like 25 years. What number someone wears shouldn't even be a conversation, imo. Ita like the house being on fire, but worrying if the toaster is ok. There are much bigger things to worry about and speak on, on this team. I get that people have an emotional attachment to the era when we were winning...but imo it just doesn't matter. Win games. That's all that matters. It's such a shit show of a franchise anymore that this is what the fan base is concerned with...what number our rookie QB wears. As an aside....I would always take the number 69. Like.....always.

I couldn't disagree more... If Theismann gave his blessing, Theismann meant it. He's never been someone who is stuck in his legacy. He's a Redskins fan and he's always going to supportive of the new QB. |
