If this is all it takes to topple the USA then I’ve been wrong about how great this country is !! The REAL story here is that the MEDIA loves this stuff !! It scares the hell out of people and they love gloom and doom !! Turn the damn TV off .. go outside and do some yard work .. practice the hand washing and social distance guidelines .. use common sense ! The world is not ending !
Extended the social distancing to the end of April because the estimated peak of the virus is mid-April.

How about this for a scenario ....

The virus begins its retreat in mid-April ... bans are lifted for most of the country at the end of April, businesses get back to work in May, and the economy starts to roar in June.

NFL starts season as scheduled.

Life returns to normal for most everyone.

See?

We can all make predictions.
That is the most optimistic estimate i've seen since this thing started, and it certainly doesn't seem to be the opinion of the white house or public health experts.

I hope your prediction is more likely to come true than mine.

I think mine will be more likely ... because your prediction is that the USA won't resume normal functioning by the end of the year ....

Hate to break it to you but this country will decide long before that, that resuming the economy will out weigh the loss of life the coronavirus takes naturally.

At some point, the cure is worse than the disease. And with a mortality rate of 1% (currently less than that in the US), it's a no brainer to get back to work.

You’re being pretty cavalier with the numbers. With about 150,000 confirmed cases and 3,500 fatalities we’re talking about a lot more than 1%. Be all that as it may, while I realize economics are important, a 1% mortality rate is still huge when you come to understand that well over 50 million of us are going to get this thing sooner or later. Let’s just hope that we have effective vaccines before the second wave hits.

we won't. Second wave will be in the fall and a vaccine will still be 6-12 months away at that point. And many months after that before everyone can get vaccinated. I dont know why vaccines take so long to develop, but evidently they do.

An economic depression will kill far more people than coronavirus on it's best day.

The longer we shelter in homes, the closer we get to the conditions needed for an economic depression.

We can get this under control and still keep the economy from ruin. This talk of sacrificing Grandma for the economy is a little disturbing. Let’s flatten the curve and go from there.

the development is quick, but human trials and tests have designated wait periods and time delays built in to ensure any side effects or after effects aren't worse than the original disease. If they push out a vaccine, and 9 months from now the baby boom that IS coming ( you think this stay at home order isn't increasing our population !!!!) could see babies born with serious birth defects or other unknown complications.

This is absolutely true. But the opposite is also true. We aren't keeping the US economy shut down for multiple months. Just not happening. I applaud every state and the feds that have worked to shut down as much as is possible. And I am glad to see the basic halt in place for the month of April. And if the scientists are right, and social distancing makes a difference, by end of April we should be able to see the beginning of the next phase of restarting things.

I hope and believe that will be the case.

Stop with the all-caps crap. It's annoying and doesn't make your post more EMPHATIC. It just makes your post more annoying.

If we don't have football it'll suck but it's not the end of the world... We'll get through it like anything else. Also if by July/Aug. this is still a pandemic we will be in a bad spot to begin with..

DAY BY DAY GUYS

We will have football but it might be played in empty stadiums.

TOO MUCH TV REVENUE IS ON THE LINE.
