Sorry to say, you are more wrong about that than you realize. Analytics is so integrated with coaching today that football may as well have been invented in the 21st Century. Analytics is based on facts which have disproved many traditional assumptions about game management, player acquisitions and more. Furthermore, it is clear that the new owners intend to move forward with implementing a strong analytics role within the football operations side of the business.
Not so much facts, but numbers certainly, what "facts" are gleaned from the numbers is dependant on how good the person doing the analysis is. |
Re: 2024 Commanders Off-Season Thread
For those of you who are excitedly humping Penix's leg, he is not a possible Franchise QB. Both Williams and Maye are better prospects, IMO. So there!
Regardless of our varying opinions, I just want to be able to have faith that our new football executives will be able to identify the best QB for us and, if they believe he is the one they want to build around, they will do what it takes to get him. |

Of course you're right about that. When Eugene Shen worked with Baltimore and Miami he and others from the analytics staffs worked hand-in-glove with coaches, scouts, and FO executives. They were staff to all of those people and the people they advised made the decisions. For the data analysis to be helpful to the decision makers they needed to buy into the value of the analytics staff work. As in any organization, for anything to work the CEO must believe in it and support it. Our new CEO is a strong believer in data analytics and he uses it extensively as a tool in his other two sports franchises. BTW, Eugene Shen's education: AB, Applied Math with Economics Harvard University 1993 MBA, MIT Sloan School of Management 1998 |

Tua has his history too - remember this time a year or two ago when he was getting concussed every other week? Maybe he tweaked something in his game because he hasn't had those issues since. |

McDaniel's offense is all about getting the ball out super quick. Tua rarely holds it for long.

Phidarian Mathis "guys got used to losing... we need to have more guys with winning mentality mindsets and don't be satisfied with losing." Not trying to single him out here but he needs to start with himself first and foremost. He is dangerously at risk of getting cut. His final stats for the year: 10 games played, 8 total tackles, 2 solo 6 assisted, 0 TFL's, 0 sacks, 1 qb hit. Every single time I focused on him he was getting his ass beat. He preached some good talking points there but dude just went 10 games without putting a single highlight on film. My guy you better go hang with Aaron Donald in the offseason or some shit. ---------- Pt. 2 of offseason quotes from the players: Cosmi with this nugget:
More from Cosmi: "There's a lot of things that I've been a part of and just seen that I haven't been too happy with as a player and just as a professional; I'm just going to keep that to myself. But yeah, I mean those ultimately reflected to the season we had."
Sounds like more off-the-field drama that we're accustomed to with this team. Hopefully this is the last time we have to hear these quotes. ------------------------------- Quote from Jeremy Reaves on Twitter:
Kam has not played a full season at safety since his rookie year. He's been a dime, Mike, Nickel, and safety. Idk if y'all know how much goes into that but it's a lot, no many guys can do it. I've seen one and it was Malcolm Jenkins! He's rare & that's something you can't teach.
Kam was pretty silent this last year - guessing trying to play 4 different positions all season wasn't the best move. I hope this means we can get him back on the cheap, I still think he can be a good safety we just need a staff that can get the best out of him. Jeremy Reaves making a good argument against position flex too. |
Re: 2024 Commanders Off-Season Thread
What’s the term? Position flexibility? The most useless thing in the world is a well rounded person, same is true with NFL

2024 Commanders Off-Season Thread

I would trade him for a second and a fourth. Would be 11 picks with 7 in the top 100. He is a whiny m-f’er. Made it pretty clear he didn’t want to be here and that was well after he knew changes were coming. Too bad Mathis was another terrible Ron pick or it would be an even better scenario. |
