when did this kris jenkins rumor start up cause if we get him then we could consider trading down and nabbing gaines adams while getting an extra pick or two some where
Re: Draft Day Trades: Jets Interested? (rumor)
what is this trade exactly is it just betts for vilma and number 6 pick for 25 cause if so the skins should not accept that

you have a lot of posts without exactly saying a whole lot. |
Re: Draft Day Trades: Jets Interested? (rumor)
leon isn't that great. the jets O line was better than expected last year, and it's only going to get better, which would let lesser talent at RB get by (See chester taylor and the vikes), but a good runner could really help them.
vilma is a GREAT player, but without DTs to protect him, his value to the defence would be greatly diminished. and depending on griffin to stay healthy and golston to turn into a superstud overnight is just betting too much on ifs. |
Re: Draft Day Trades: Jets Interested? (rumor)
i would feel alot better about this trade if that kris jenkins rumor becomes a reality
|
Re: Draft Day Trades: Jets Interested? (rumor)
the jenkins thing was purely speculative to begin with. it's not happening, unless the skins aren't going to try for a FA corner this offseason.

Re: Draft Day Trades: Jets Interested? (rumor)
i figured that i want nate clements more than kris jenkins anyways
I think if it came down to it, I'd lean toward Vilma. While Branch could be good, even great, Vilma is a known commodity and he's still young as has been stated.
If Griff, whom I thought had an off year, can return to form and Golston get's more comfortable with the scheme, conditioning and so forth, that could give us some punch up front. So in my mind Vilma then becomes an intersting piece to the puzzle. He also seems to be a leader on the field. He seems to be very vocal toward other teammates, which we need.
Griff's play has slipped since 04. In 04 he was really really good. Hopefully he can get back to that level in 07. I'm not so sure about Goldston. We had better get some depth at that position. Since we like FA's so much I'd sign a fat ass like Keith Traylor or Ted Washington. Not sure about their status. Let him play run downs. We gotta do something about the line. That's the heart of your defense. |

Yea, I was the one who broke the story. Read the beginning of the thread. That was a proposed deal after GM told me that, "The JETS have been trying to do everything to get Betts..." However, that fact only leads to the value of Betts on the free agent/trade block. We could use that value to get better at position in which we are thin(e.g. Corner, Linebacker, or common sense). I think its a good look. Fans arent too attached to him yet, and his value is high after 1,000 yards this season. We need help now. I cant see the same faces. The same faces that remind us that they are the result of bungled free afency pratices, can not be on our team next season. We need fresh faces from the draft that will mature into "cornerstone" players for us in the future. If not for that, then for the fact that we only have 1 pick in the first 3 rounds of the draft. Then none until the 5th!! PS Bill Clinton for "King of America" Coming Soon |
OUR OLINE IS JUST AS GOOD AS INDY'S IF NOT BETTER and trading betts would be the dumbest thing the redskins ever did since signing adam archuleta to a 30 million dollar deal i say we re-sign dockery pick up clements and fletcher and go for branch first but if he's gone get gaines adams that will shore up our defense leave the offense be we have weapons there and since we dont pick again until the 5th round we sohuld look for a true kick returner althugh rock did a decent job for us look at the numbers we have had 3 kickoff returns for touchdowns by rock, ladell, and antonio brown who was cut so just think if we had a devin hester, or a eddie drummond our avg starting field position was one of the worst in the league last year and i would much rather have campbell who is still developing to have to go 50-60 yards to score rather than 75-80
HA HA HA HA Dude, it is Friday and I just got off work. Please pass what you are smoking. Give me one example (besides that you typed it in capital letters) how our offensive line is better than Indy's. I will give you three why they are better. Indy's offense finishes drives with touchdowns typically with runs, Indy's won the Superbowl. They have two pro-bowlers. Your turn (in lowercase please). |

Load the box to stop the run near the goal line and Manning audibles out to a pass. Lay back and their runners are very effective getting to the end zone. Without question, Washington's O-line is more physical than Indy's. That said, their O-line versatility fits Indy's offensive approach, while the Skins' physicality fits the game that Gibbs favors. |

Overall, Indy has had the better line for years now, but our line excells at run blocking. We had a bunch of pass protection problems early on, but apparently we got those issues shored up by Week 17.

Re: Draft Day Trades: Jets Interested? (rumor)
Let me say that I am not trying to piss on our O-line. First of all, I think we have a top 5 line.
That being said, we don't have dock at the moment. To say that Jansen is a potential pro-bowler is more than wishful thinking. To honestly believe that our line is better than Indianapolis' at this point in time is beyond blind faith. At this present time we have one legitamate pro-bowler. Thomas is a candidate but he is not the same player that he was in '05. |

who is the LG, RG, and RT for the Colts I know i want you to tell me
I don't want to hear "potential" I want to talk about reality. Jansen is on the downside of his career. Thomas is probably our best lineman but shoulda coulda woulda, he was hurt last year. Our line was dominant between the 20s. Indy's was dominant inside the 20. This is a moot point. |
Re: Draft Day Trades: Jets Interested? (rumor)
Well i wouldnt make that deal unless extra picks were involved. But hey were talking about the skins so we probably throw our other two picks in too to get Ramsey back lol.

Re: Draft Day Trades: Jets Interested? (rumor)
I could see a three-way trade!! The Skins send Betts and Arch. to the Bears. The Bears send T. Jones to the Jets, and the Jets send the Skins Villma.

Benson and Betts seem pretty similar to me. Why would the Jets dump Vilma for T. Jones who may be released at some point (since Benson was a #4 pick)? |

Re: Draft Day Trades: Jets Interested? (rumor)
not that this matters, but i was talking to a bunch of football fans at work. all of them say that they would do this trade in a heartbeat, if they are the skins. i tend to agree. betts is a backup that fumbles too much for my liking. and running back isn't one of our weaknesses. and Vilma is a proven MIDDLE linebacker. not someone us fans are trying to convert
|
Re: Draft Day Trades: Jets Interested? (rumor)
Two categories that offensive lines are judged on are rushing yards and sacks given up.
Just for the sake of throwing this out there the Skins were 4th in the NFL in rushing yards this year, the Colts were 18th. The Skins were 3rd in the NFL in sacks given up with 20, the Colts were #1 in the league and gave up 15. |

I gotta agree, I think Ladell Betts is a very replacable football player and Vilma is a monster. I don't know, however, if I'd be willing to move down 19 picks in the first round in order to swap Vilma and Betts without picking up a later pick. This trade would be big for the Skins and they could go out and get another backup running back. Finally, I think Betts is probably gonna find his way back among the injured this season because he normally does, last year was an exception, rather than the norm for Ladell Betts. I think moving him to the Jets would be good for the Skins because they could pick up a need. Also, I think it would be a decent gesture to allow Betts to go somewhere else and compete to be a #1 back, although that really shouldn't come into play when making the decision. |
Re: Draft Day Trades: Jets Interested? (rumor)
betts for vilma straight up is a steal. but moving out of that #6 pick for a #25 gaurantees you're DL is going to be awful all of next year. if we got a monster DL guy instead, #25 overall is a great spot for a top tier MLB. linebackers are easier to get in the 2nd round. it's hard to find elite QBs/LTs/DEs/DTs outside the top 10-16 picks.

Re: Draft Day Trades: Jets Interested? (rumor)
The Jets just released Kevan Barlow which makes them even more determined to get a running back and are said to like betts will they be willing to add a extra draft pick to the trade now

Hey, if they come running to us with a reasonable deal involving Vilma and Betts, we SHOULD do it. But we need to make it clear that we aren't shopping Betts.
Barlow sucks anyway, I don't think this changes the complexity of the deal any. |
Re: Draft Day Trades: Jets Interested? (rumor)
Jets want to make a play for Michael Turner from what I've heard.

Re: Draft Day Trades: Jets Interested? (rumor)
Jets want to make a play for Michael Turner from what I've heard.
Smart move on their part. I'd be shocked if the Chargers tender him at less than the 1st round compensation level. For the Jets, that might actually be worth doing. Not a 1st and a 3rd though.

i think that when it comes to potential trades, betts and portis are both off limits.gibbs will keep them both, unless somebody decides to pull a ricky williams type trade again.

I dunno. If someone offered us a low 1st or high 2nd for Betts, I'd take it in a heartbeat and I think Gibbs would be given a moment of pause. |
