It's on my Netflix list, with about 100 other movies...I really hoping they start to expand their "Watch Instantly" section soon, so my wife and I can start knocking off some of these movies quicker. |

I thought it was pretty funny. The premise is great, but it scares me a little but because I think it could come true. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Watched two movies the past week, including Christmas Day (I'm visiting my mom in Hawaii and I've gotta say that Hawaiians come out in force to watch movies on Christmas... it was packed!).
Sweeney Todd is Burton's darkest work yet... very bloody and morbidly funny. Even if you don't like musicals, it's still worth checking out. Yesterday (X-mas) i saw "Juno." It's definitely in my top 5 for this year... Ellen Page is going to be an epic actress. |

Good flick. Yes, it's funny. Hanks did a good job. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Was finally able to watch "Superbad" last night when we got home from our Christmas celebration. Freakin' hilarious. Tonight will be The Simpsons Movie.
|
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
I watched the 3rd Pirates movie for the first time. It was a lot better than what I thought it was going to be.
I'm hoping the new AvP will be decent. I'm not holding my breath, though. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Kite Runner is a must see. In fact, see both Charlie Wilson's War and Kite Runner. Almost prophetic given the recent events surrounding Bhutto's death.
|
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Charlie Wilson's War was fantastic. Seriously it was great.
A movie that i can't believe no one has seen is walk hard: dewey cox. It is so f...ing funny. I read all the reviews and they weren't horrible but they weren't good. It was engaging throughout and poked fun of music from the 50s to the present. It was not your regular stupid parody movie either. It was not so over the top. It really was a fantastic movie. Looking at fan reviews, it looks like you loved it or hated it. Its hard to see someone hate it. It was a complete story. From beginning to end and the character changes with the music of the times. I think adults that grew up with the music in the 60s would appreciate it more but the humor might be for the younger crowd. I think that is where it falls apart. It is perfect for the 20 somethings out there. The music was pretty good too. This movie was a major flop and it shouldn't have been. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
the BSB - I was actually getting ready to say that I saw Walk Hard on Friday night...
...and I concur with everything the BSB says about it. Freakin' hilarious. And while some of the scenes are a bit over the top, most of it is just downright funny. And Jenna Fischer (Pam from The Office) is super hot in it. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
yeah she is. This is a great song from the movie. Don't watch it if you would rather watch it for the first time at the theater.

Just saw I am Legend today.
Crazy ass movie and they are saying that shit's supposed to happen in 2009. If it did, pray for divine intervention. |

Nope. I managed to avoid that book. On the other hand I did have to read Animal Farm. :D |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
I finally got aroung to seeing Bourne Ultimatum last night. Great movie and a very solid trilogy overall. I'm still a bit confused though, it didn't wrap things up completely.
Has anyone seen Eastern Promises? I should have it coming today from netflix. |

same here, I was a little dissapointed in it personally. it just seemed pretty blah throughout the movie with no real attachment built around the characters. |

I saw AvP 2 last week, it was a decent flick. I was pretty disappointed at the ending though.

aww mooby come on avp2 was craaaap i kinda thought it would maybe be better than the 1st one but nooo it was worse, sooo damn predictable that it was funny.. other than that i saw the great debaters, good movie, HUGE Denzel fan, national treasure 2 was really good and i want to see the Bucket list,, so if anyone seen it let me know how it was |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Go see the bucket list, great movie. Very sentimental and funny at the same time.

The wife and I watched Wild Hogs not too long ago. Funny, very Disney-esque. It's hard to see Ray Liotta has a hard nosed biker. He's what, 60?

"See, I called you Ray Liotta because your skin has the texture of a decorative autumn squash." FYI - I looked it up, he turns 54 at the end of this year. He looks pretty beat sometimes for being 53.. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
There will be blood is a good movie. Don't take a date there but its a good movie. Its wierd though. It assumes people hate both business and religious people. Laugh at parts that seem funny because they are funny.
Cloverfield is pretty good. Worth watching. I do think it is a pretty good date movie. Not the best but a good one. a little bit of a spoiler ahead so don't read ahead if you don't want.... People in my theater hated the ending. There were a lot of boos. Bunch of high school kids but the ending was kind of weak. I won't say what was bad about it but people did not like it. |

I like shaky cam, so that helps- if you get sick watching shaky cam, don't see it. Excellent pacing and I was involved the entire time. It's like a ten dollar 90 minute amusement park ride... a really kick ass ride. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Cloverfield was pretty good. Kind of Blair Witch Meets Godzilla Meets Aliens. I liked it, wife hated it...

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
So I saw Cloverfield last night, and it had its moments. But overall I left the movie feel pretty disappointed, and nauseous (how hard is it to hold a video camera steady?). Shaky camera has its appeal to an extent for me.
Without giving much away, my biggest problem with the movie is that there are so many hidden clues you're supposed to watch out for; even before seeing the movie with all the secret web sites attached to the movie. And that's fine for LOST, where you can DVR the show, watch it online the next day, catch the next episode the following week, and put the pieces together. For a movie, that's just too much work in my opinion. Overall I wasn't impressed I've heard Juno is really good. Anyone see that? |

The problem with "scary" PG-13 movies is that too many people that go are people who have not watched "scary" R movies. So they basically don't know scary. Some old bag in front of me during Cloverfield was going so crazy I thought she was going to drop. |

Even though it's a movie, if there was some alien thing terrorizing the city my first concern isn't gonna be, "Oh hey, lemme back pedal so I get get a steadier shot" ;) |

I've heard mixed reviews on Cloverfield. I'd still like to see if for myself.

I haven't seen the movie yet.. I heard a lot of people got all pukey cause of the shaky camera though and that some people had to walk out of the movie cause they were getting too nauseous. |

Yeah i was thinking that but the movie was the entire video. So the video camera only was on for about an hour and a half over the 7 hour period it covered. So its possible it made it through. They say there might be a sequel from another camera in a different part of the city. I don't know what i think about that. |

Ramboo had no redeeming story or dialogue what so ever, but was balls to the wall action. One of the most gory movies I've ever seen. And the movie had a trailer before it for a movie with a title for the ages: The Midnight Meat Train.

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
I saw Mr. Woodcock today, I thought it was pretty decent but kinda predictable. Overall though it wasn't that bad, but it wasn't that great.
Yesterday I went to the theaters and saw Meet the Spartans, honestly that is the biggest piece of crap I have ever wasted 10 bucks on. I mean, not before in my life have I ever seen a movie that I thought sucked as bad as that. They basically took 300 and made it a 90 minute long gay joke with little shitty jokes dispersed randomly in it. The only parts that I thought were a littlet funny were shown in the commercials, which is the entire reason I wanted to see it in the first place despite the fact that the commercial for it wasn't entirely appealing. Either way the next time I think about going to see a spoof movie in theaters, I'm going to think back to yesterday and tell myself never again. There will never be a spoof movie coming out that I won't be willing to wait for it to make it's inevitable appearance on HBO or one of those channels in a few months. |
