Why is anyone getting excited over Mooch. he's another sorry re-tread.
I'd take Meeks anyday over Mooch.
You obviously think of his years in Detroit. I've watched him here in SF when was a coach at Cal-Berkeley and then the 49ers and he's a great coach. I'm not a 49er fan, I actually hate them as much as the Cowboys, but I have to give him the respect he deserves. He got a bad deal when ownership changed here from Eddie D. to his sister and they cleaned house.

Mooch would be better than Fassel. Do you think he approved of The Danny's hirngs of assistants though? The adjustment for the players to a new system is one matter, but the coaching staff will have to come together on the new systems/approaches as well. I hope this doesn't end up like Marty did though. I could see Mooch wanting control after awhile to make a real go of it. Do you guys think we will keep much of Saunders offense if any at all, or a totally new system?

Thanks for the insight on Mooch. I'm willing to give him the benefit of having to suffer under a bad GM in Detroit.

What kind of offense did he run in Detroit.

West Coast, Marty Morninweigh (SP?) was his OC. He's currently Andy Reid's OC.

With Vinnies previous experience with Mooch I'm wondering why he was not considered earlier particularly ahead of Fassel? With Zorns leaning toward a hybrid West Coast Offense why wouldn't a West Coast architect like Mooch be a likely choice to stabalize an area where the biggest shakeup will occur, on offense.

Also I've heard that both Fassel and Meeks have stated that their choice of OF and DF coordinators would be Zorn and Blatche. What are your thoughts on Mariucci having coordinators picked for him.

Marty was the head coach of the Lions during the 2001–2002 seasons. Mooch replaced him and got axed in 05 after three years on the job.

Per Wikipedia Ted Tollner was his OC in Detroit after serving the same roll in SF for one year.

What show was it on? The impression I get is that NFL Network is like MTV, film 4 or 5 shows then rerun them 24/7. Also in the meantime can you tell me anything else about what was said in that interview?

One thing Mooch needs to learn... Our colors are BURGUNDY and gold. They all called it "red". Bah! Amateurs.

PFT.com, This soap opera will end in less than a week. (HOPEFULLY)

POSTED 8:33 p.m. EST, January 29, 2008

MOOCH ADDRESSES REDSKINS RUMORS

Former 49ers and Lions coach Steve Mariucci addressed on NFL Network rumors that he might be the next coach of the Redskins.

Mooch was noncommittal -- he clearly is open to the possibility, but he calls it a "family decision." (Insert whip crack sound here.)

A couple of readers have pointed out that the recent hiring of defensive line coach Larry Brooks by the Redskins could evidence that Mariucci will get the job, given that Brooks was Mooch's defensive line coach in Detroit in 2004 and 2005.

Re: RI: Something to chew on (Mariucci speculation) (Update: Interview Wednesday)

I haven't read all of the responses regarding Mariucci, but I kept thinking why Snyder would not announce a HC prior to the Super Bowl. If it was Fassel, then would that announcement really be a distraction. And the whole Fassel feeling "used." This means that the announcement has to do with someone still working in/around the Super Bowl. Mariucci seems like the one. I can't see them hiring McDaniels or Spragnoli (?) because they would want their own staff.

Again, typical Redskins offseason of too much time, rumors, and thought.

Let's hope for the best.

I thought the league madated this week that no announcements were to
occur to supersede the Superbowl events. Thus DS is waiting till after the Superbowl.

I think the NFL frowns on any big announcements the week of the Super Bowl, they don't want anything distracting from the SB spectacle.

After thinking it over I can get used to Mooch.

At least he has a SuperBowl Ring and experience with San Fran.

Detroit was a doomed franchise with Matt Millen the worst NFL executive in the businesss today. He makes Vinny look like the PATS GM!

I remember when Emmitt Smith announced his retirement at the Super Bowl during the week. I think that it does take away from the teams playing and their moment. Besides, if they wait until after the Pro Bowl then Mooch can recruit the FA's in Hawaii.

It's because skills and attributes such as those mentioned in your post are essential for developing team chemistry. And in a lot of cases chemistry is almost as important as football knowledge.

Let's this hire this guy and get it over with. Mooch is the best man for the job out of the other coahes we'd interview. He has a swagger that Snyder likes, he knows the west coast offense in and out, he is big name in the NFL, and most importantly he knows how to develop quarterbacks. (Just not named Harrington). I can not wait until we hire this guy and I will be alright from the pain I have felt throughout this offseason. For some reason I really believe that Snyder has learned from his past mistakes and is trying to develop a team the right way. I'm willing to give Cerrato a pass to be the man that handles our personnel as well. We will be alright. I'm glad that we will not see that pathetic conservation offense anymore.
