So it Tucker retired? He's stuck around for years, I thought maybe the Skins would bring him back for depth.

I'll be. Damn thats to bad, I was thinking he was going to be a boom or bust prospect, but that was suppose to be after training camp. I still doubt the guy from New Mexico makes it. However I really hope Kerry Brown makes it, since that would give us a pair of Guards for at least the next five years. Still need a Center and hopefully someone else to backup the Tackle spot, as Heyer has durability concerns.

Funny thing in watching the lineman hit the sled yesterday on redskins.com I noticed that Brown was able to jar the sled harder then anyone else.

From Redskins Insider

A Couple of Signings and Some Releases
It's that time of year -- comings and goings farther down on the depth chart, but I know you guys want all the info....
The Redskins announced that they've signed QB Derek Devine, the 6-3, 222-pound former Marshall QB who signed as a rookie free agent with Seattle in 2007 and was released before the season, and safety Patrick Ghee, who also signed as a rookie free agent with the Seahawks in 2007 and was released before the season. Carolina signed him to its practice squad Dec. 26; he played at Wake Forest and is 6-1, 210.
The team also announced that it has released DE Alonzo Dotson, QB Bret Meyer, S Kevin Mitchell, and S Justin Scott.

I signed up for draftscout, and thought that I would be able to post information, on this site. Unfortuanatley, it does not allow you to cut and paste, but it has alot of good things to say about Ghee. He is a great physical specimen, hope he can contribute. I ope he is the Heyer of 2008. I also hope Heyer is not a one year wonder.

Derek Devine spent time with Jim Zorn and the Seahawks las season. So, if nothing else, he knows what Zorn expects of his QBs and can help relay the message

I could have sworn I saw that the Redskins signed Andrew Crummey on NFL Network, which if thats true then awesome. We would have a backup tackle (Heyer), 2 guards (Rhinehart and Brown) and a center (Crummey)

On Redkins site now. Redskins sign Goode and Crummey, which is awsome. I thought, I saw tht the chargers signed him earlier. I heard during the combine, that Crummey would not be ready to play until june.

O-Line Depth Chart: I'm hoping this is what it looks like come week 1.

LT: Samuals, Heyer, Fabini
LG: Kendall, Rhinehart, Fabini, Brown
C: Rabach, Crummey
RG: Thomas, Rhinehart, Fabini, Brown
RT: Jansen, Heyer, Fabini

I keep on hearing that Wade will be cut for salary cap/production reasons

Per ESPN Insider:
"Crummey also has seen action at center. Crummey has the versatility, athleticism and aggressiveness to develop into a valuable reserve that can provide depth at guard as well as center"

I was thinking the same thing. It would be awsome if it worked out like that. The only thing is that you have one to many lineman. I hope they do so well that Fabini is cut. Then we would have four young guys that would be future starters. I am not delusional, I just hope it works out that way.

I thought I saw that Crummey was signed by the Chargers. I found this blog site that says he was. I wonder if he was released or never realy signed. I read during the combine that he would not be ready to participate until Jun, due to his broken leg. I wonder if he was cut, why. Oh well, I hope he can be another Heyer.

This is awesome, I have a gut feeling that Crummey can be another Heyer. As everyone knows, Crummey was regarded as a top lineman prospect before his injury. I hope he heals up well and becomes a valuable back up (and maybe starter someday?) to our offensive line.

Samuels
Kendall
Rabach
Thomas
Jansen
Rinehart
Heyer
Alexander
Wade
Fabini

^^^^probably the most likely ten, but I'll bet at least one UDFA can make it. No idea if Kerry Brown or Crummney has the inside track though.

Alexander is listed on the team's website (and NFL.com) as a Defensive Tackle...so maybe he wouldn't be included among the 10 offensive lineman. Also, aren't there rumors that Wade is going to be cut (I saw it in some of the postings)

1) He's not that good
2) It's financially feasible

But he still has to get beaten out by a UDFA. That's a tall task for any rookie.

Someone is bound to do it, however, since I can't pick who, I left Wade on the roster.

Also if need be do you think he could end up on Injured Reserve, similar to the possibilty that Brennan may be thrown on the list.

This crummey guys sounds like he could be something. He was an all american his jr. year right? Usually all american as an O linemen is a pretty good indication of pro ability, unlike the 'skill' positions where so many of them aren't much as pros.

If it's just a matter of him healing then hopefully the team sticks w/him to give him time to heal. Maybe the chargers thought he wouldn't recover fully, but they also have a more crowded roster than ours.

I think if he had been healthy he would have been a high draft pick.
If he heals up and the team decides to keep him we might have found ourselves another steal.

Re: Official UDFA Signing Thread

Sports Illustrated has Crummey ranked better than a couple 4th round guards.
They have only 6 guards between him and Chad Rhinehart who we selected in the 3
rd.
However, the grading also shows about a dozen guard better than him were undrafted too...half of them even grading higher than Rhinehart.
I dont know what to make of this link...but it seems they are fairly close to NFL opinion on other positions...but guard has undrafted folks ahead of 4th round picks.

This guy would have probably been a 4-5th rounder if he didn't break his leg twice IMO.

SI.com - 2008 NFL Draft - Breakdown by Position - G

Also
Scout.com has him as the 13th Guard...only 3 behind Rhinehart.

Re: Official UDFA Signing Thread

for what its worth on Crummey from San Diego Blog

Scouting report on Crummey.

Andrew Crummey Scouting Report by The Wannabe Scout
Pros: Andrew is a very aggressive blocker who loves to get out to the second level, and punch defenders in the mouth. Has excellent hand usage, as he consistently locks out on defenders and either drives them out of the play or uses their own momentum against them to direct them out. Very steady output – does not make mistakes.
Cons: He is not the best of athletes, and can sometimes get caught not playing over his feet, although he has good enough balance to make up for this. Does not always recover well with proper footwork in pass pro. While he was extremely durable up until his broken leg, this will definitely be something teams will want to be careful about – he should be ready to go possibly by bowl season, certainly by the combine and personal workout.
Overall: What a great name for an interior lineman – and he lives up to it, as opposing defensive linemen know they are in for a rough day when they are pitted against him. He plays to the whistle on every snap, and clearly loves the contact, delivering a solid initial punch. He does a nice job of locking out and keeping defenders away from his body, allowing him to direct them away from the ball. Really gets off the ball well when asked to get downfield, and has great success blocking in the second level. His offense’s unquestioned leader, a consistent rock called on to perform well every game. While he won’t wow you with his athletic ability, his consistency, toughness, and smarts will allow him to be a very productive long-term starter in the NFL. His injured leg (and position) will probably make him a 4th to 5th fifth rounder, but he should be able to step in and help a franchise fairly quickly, especially in run-blocking.

AND

From what I've heard.. This kid was projected as a 2nd-3rd round pick and due to an injury his grade was lowered to 4th or 5th rounder... Still teams shyed away from him due to his injury and MR AJ could have himself a 2nd rd talent (OG) who could replace Goff in a year.. Like Siler last year --- AJ likes kids who slip through the tracks... I Guarantee you Crummey out plays "EVERY" OG drafted in this years class, and last longer in the NFL than all but 1 or 2 of the OL (yes OT's included) if he stays injury free... Watch this guy on film, and you see a "road grater" with a plus motor, and solid pass protection.. Probably the best signing this offseason so far...

AND FINALLY...this is good for us...
So much for that...
