Better yet, how about McNabb to Westbrook also beats the Eagles in the NFC Championship! Oh the horror
I am torn - Do I want the Eagles to make it to the NFC Championship only to lose to a McNabb to Westbrook TD pass with time expiring? - OR - Do I want them to stink miserably the entire year as Kolb demonstrates he is the second coming of Bobby Hoying? My biggest fear, of course, is that every time I wish ill upon the Eagles or rejoice in their failures - they seem to do better just to spite me. |

Nothing would tear that city's heart out more than that. |
Re: Brian Westbrook Meeting with Redskins on Wednesday
I want the Eagles to lose the tiebreaker for the 6th seed to us at 8-8, based on a comeback victory on-the-road by McNabb in Philly, leading to an eventual series split and 3-3 division record.
Then the Redskins go on to do *some* damage as road warriors in the playoffs, which Philly did for years with McNabb. Obviously, I don't think the team is good enough to push for the super bowl, but as a complete pretender in the NFC Championship game after upsetting Minnesota and Dallas on the road in the postseason, I'd take 4th place. The best 10-9 season in NFL history. |

Re: Brian Westbrook Meeting with Redskins on Wednesday
MS seems pretty high on getting BW:
Redskins Insider - Your daily source for news and commentary on the Washington Redskins, by Jason Reid
"We want him to sign with us," Shanahan said. "Like I said, it could be some great competition. I really like Brian, what he's done and how he's handled himself. I'm sure he's weighing some options. It's not too far away from home. Any more I can do?" Shanahan was reminded that Westbrook's younger brother Byron plays cornerback for the Redskins. "I've played that card already," Shanahan said.
Seriously, if Byron is even a small part of the reason that Brian comes here, somehow, words won't express the weirdness I will feel for having been critical of keeping Byron on the roster all these many years |
Feel free to dream big GT. It's the offseason, loosen up baby.
Hey, for me, that's optimism.
Someone's going to end up in a playoff game well out of their league, so why not us? |
Re: Brian Westbrook Meeting with Redskins on Wednesday
For all you speculators....I really don't think Bryon Westbrook makes the final roster...it will sure suck if we keep him vs. a better player just to not piss off Brian.
The real issue is this....what does he want more...playoff action or playing with folks he knows in his old hometown against the team that cut him. I really don't think the skins or the broncos are a playoff team, but the broncos are in a better situation to pull it off due to competition....and he gets more opportunities for TD's. With the Skins, he'd essentially be playing for 1st downs on 3rd and long. Who really knows what he wants? And keep in mind...no one knows the contract terms that are floating around....if I were westbrook, I'd look at the Broncos and Skins as an even situation, and I'd give the advantage to the team with the longest term offer. I would be very happy if we land him since there is a gap in our roster in terms of pass catching RBs, but if we don't get him, I won't cry... But I am not seeing any young RB on the squad that is worth keeping yet...and I am not sold on Parker yet....so to me, Westbrook is a great option if we can pull it off. |
Re: Brian Westbrook Meeting with Redskins on Wednesday
I don't think anyone to include M.Shanahan will be upset over not getting him, I just think M.Shanahan looks at the player and how they can benifit the team. Brian Westbrook would not be able to be the every down back and be productive the whole season. Plus his 2 concussions make him even more suseptible to getting another more easily. So I don't think Shanahan is looking for him to come in and take over. I think Shanahan is looking at it as Westbrook would be just one more added weapon to utilize. If the running game is not breaking open he could send in Westbrook and start finding ways to open up the defense. Force other teams to have to cover him taking another defender out of the box. If it's only on 3rd down so be it, but I doubt Westbrook would be only used on 3rd down considering Shanahan might want to use him on 1st down just to throw off the defense.
Basically how much he plays depends on what wrinkles Shanahan wants to throw at any given team. Westbrook just enable another boat load of plays to be used or added to the mix. |

How about we sign these washed up veterans and go 6-10 and play like crap!!! Isnt that more realistic??? |

Sadly, that would still be a two game improvement  and would give the whole team a time to shake out and get another draft under the FO's belt. I don't see that happening tho'. We might go as low as 8-8, but I guarantee we will be competitive in every game except maybe the Indianapolis game, I don't think our D will be comfortable enough at that point to handle Peyton's offense (could he please retire LOL) |
so we offered him a deal?
Redskins Insider - Shanahan: Skins have made offer to Brian Westbrook
Redskins Coach Mike Shanahan made his most emphatic public overtures to free agent running back Brian Westbrook Wednesday, saying Washington has made Westbrook an official offer to join a full stable of running backs that already includes veterans Clinton Portis, Larry Johnson and Willie Parker. Asked after Wednesday's offseason workout session if he had heard from Westbrook or his agent, Shanahan told the assembled media, "No, but if you guys hear anything, just tell him that we're ready. Westbrook, 30, played his entire eight-year career with the Philadelphia Eagles before he was released this offseason. He is coming off two concussions that limited him to eight games and 274 yards rushing--his lowest output since his rookie season of 2002. St. Louis also has shown interest in Westbrook. Westbrook's quarterback in Philadelphia was new Redskins signal caller Donovan McNabb. Though McNabb emphasized Wednesday that he has no say in personnel decisions in Washington, he said he speaks with his former -- and perhaps future -- teammate regularly. "It's not just pertaining to football," McNabb said. "I just want the guy to have an opportunity to continue on what he started and prove the critics wrong that he can still play. If it's here or anywhere else, that would be his decision and for the people upstairs. For me, I'm just trying to get my feet settled and get this thing in the right direction."
|
Re: Brian Westbrook Meeting with Redskins on Wednesday
Hmmm.. I just remember the Eagles with Westbrook in recent years, and they just *couldn't* run on third down (or fourth down). Sure, Westbrook is a great pass-catcher, but then wouldn't opposing defenses know the team will pass if WB goes in?
I guess the theory is: - 3rd down and 3 -- put LJ in and try to use the power back... - 3rd down and 10 -- put Westbrook in there to use RB as a catching threat.. So: 1st down - Clinton Portis 2nd down - Willie Parker (if he's still there) 3rd down - LJ (short yardage) or WB (passing situations) Still think it'd have been better to get some young RB to develop instead of reworking the entire RB corps next year about this time.. |
Re: Brian Westbrook Meeting with Redskins on Wednesday
^ I'm not so sure about Parker. I guessing if Portis does what Shanahan wants him to do then Portis will be the main RB otherwise he could be gone. But as it seems now he is doing what Shanahan wants.
I get the impression LJ will be the big RB on short yrdge. I think it's obvious Westbrook would be used for passing downs and as you said other teams would key on that unless of course they choose to use a 2 back system say Portis and Westbrook.... have them run to opposite sides and defenses would have to account for either Portis running or Westbrook catching out of the back field. Basically Westbrook just adds another wrinkle for defenses to have to account for. I also wonder if Shanahan would decide to use certain RB's against certain teams based on the other teams weaknesses. Portis might be the main RB in one game but Parker might be the main RB in another. Westbrook another and finally LJ perhaps against teams with strong DL's. |

No news since June 2. C'mon! What's going on, Brian?

Re: Brian Westbrook Meeting with Redskins on Wednesday
I think at this point the media and fans need to be cornering Byron Westbrook and asking him what his brother is going to do.

Re: Brian Westbrook Meeting with Redskins on Wednesday
I am pretty sure I read that the Redskins had wanted WP but it looked like they would be unable to get him, so they brought in LJ. I would think if they have to cut one of them, it would be LJ. Of course, that could just be the Steeler fan in me talking too.

Re: Brian Westbrook Meeting with Redskins on Wednesday
Reports of Parker not looking too hot in camps so far certainly doesn't help his case.

Broncos backing off Brian Westbrook Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on June 11, 2010 8:32 PM ET Brian Westbrook successfully drummed up interest after the NFL Draft, but he's yet to make a decision about his future. There are indications that at least one suitor is tired of waiting. Bill Williamson of ESPN writes Denver is "softening" its pursuit of the former Eagles running back. Instead, the Broncos want to see how J.J. Arrington looks in a third down role during training camp. The Redskins remain interested in Westbrook, although we wonder if they would like to finally get an answer from him, perhaps before the team's mandatory minicamp next week. Westbrook visited the Rams first, but St. Louis appears to be his fallback plan. |

On the other hand..what a way to tick off a city...announcing in town with your star QB who left. |
