And how are we going to protect or get weapons for RG3/Cousins? Can Cousins catch the football, or intercept it. We needed a backup QB, but it was NOT a need NOW

Letting this settle in a little bit, I think I understand it. Do we REALLY want Rex with the ball if Griffin gets hurt?

Kirk Cousins is to RG3 what Gus Ferrotte was to Heath Schuler :D

Yes I went there.

Now, if we can develop Cousins and trade him, we'll be getting more than a 4th rounder from that, no?

Well we don't have a first round pick of our own for the next billion years so yeah, no real benefit to lost seasons.
Cousins. Love it.
So do I. YES!

Look he's back up protection. Young and healthy and good. If RG3 goes down for some odd reason we have a decent backup. We don't have to worry about RG1 going in or Beck or god forbid Crompton.

Love the pick though. I mean before people were calling for a developmental QB. This is the situation where you bring in a guy like Cousins. I LOVE this pick.

I cannot be more delighted with this pick.
This kid played high school football where I live.
Everyone out here talks about him.

My ex-father in law is totally in love with him.
And he hates the Redskins.
LMAO!

they probably saw cousins as a good value at this position, someone whom they could develop into a quality backup, and someone who fits the system. i understand the pick, just never was his biggest fan in college. i don't think its a terrible pick. you need 2 QBs that can play.

well there goes joe adams!!!!!! Goddamnit!!! We chose a backup backup QB over a starting RS slot guy.

Disappointed.......there are going to be suitable backups on the street soon enough......would have liked to have seen O-line or ILB.

The thing is between Luck and RG3, RG3 was the one with a few injury red flags and his playing style can be risky at times. A falling QB like Cousins in the 4th round make tons of sense.

I think you all are thinking the Skins would go out and pick up a OL to start. I think the coaching staff is satisfied with what they had last year minus the injuries and who stepped up late in the seasonl. Whoever gets taken will almost be just backup until they learn the system. Might as well get a decent backup at QB.

Plus this should shut up the people who are saying RG3 will not last the whole season because he's not big enough similar to Vick. Trust me I've heard it from a lot of people.

He should have went in the 2nd. Very very very solid prospect. However this is the perfect situation for him.

Gtothearry 04-28-2012 12:32 PM

I cant understand how SF is getting such great value for trading back.

Re: 2012 NFL Draft Day 3

I like the pick in a vacuum, but I would have preferred secondary or OL depth.

As a Big 10 season ticket holder, I like Cousins a lot. Tougher than dirt, great, great attitude and talented enough.

Waaaaaaay better than Ricky Stanzi, who I think a lot of people here liked last year.

I haven't been following the draft too much. I can't belive there are no other high-quality players availalbe now. I know we need a solid back-up, but there are other positions that should have been addressed with this pick. It will be real intersting to see what the next pick is.

http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/dsprofile.php?pyid=69458&draftyear=2012&genpos=qb

04/23/12 - NFL DRAFT TOP QUARTERBACKS: Kirk Cousins, Michigan State, 6-3, 214, 2-3...Descriptions and statistics on Cousins might be hard to evaluate. He has good size, played four years in a pro system including two as captain, is a great citizen in the community, a strong team leader on the field and has already graduated with a 3.68 GPA in kinesiology. As far as statistics, Cousins is MSU's career record holder in passing touchdowns (66), passing yards (9,131), completions (723) and passing efficiency (146.1 rating). After that he was impressive in both Senior Bowl workouts and the game, and then did well at the scouting combine and looked even better at his pro day. Perhaps the only obvious wart on his list of achievements is that his career statistics include a total of minus-127 yards rushing, which may be revealing. Cousins is football smart and performs well within the system, but when things go awry he does not have the knack or arm as a passer, nor the athleticism as a runner, to make good things happen. In fact, closer analysis of his stats shows that an inordinate amount of completions and yards were either screens or very short passes. His arm strength and passing velocity are less than scouts want, but they are still intrigued by his advanced understanding of a pro-like passing system and excellent anticipation. Despite his statistical accuracy (64 percent completions), Cousins does not place the ball well to help yards after the catch and if he is unable to throw in rhythm his effectiveness declines noticeably. Cousins broke his ankle coming out of high school and after being ignored by most big schools was set to go to Toledo until Mark Dantonio was hired as MSU's head coach. After failing to get his preferred quarterbacks, Dantonio offered Cousins a chance and it paid off. In that regard, there is a chance history might repeat. - Frank Cooney, The Sports Xchange

Re: 2012 NFL Draft Day 3

I'm not saying this is going to happen (man, I hope not) but the last time we drafted a QB high in the first round we also drafted a QB in the 7th. The 7th rounder beat out the other QB for the starting job in their first year! Name those QB's.

3 years down the road, we might get a willing buyer for Cousins for more than one sleeper pick in the 4th round.

Speaking of value. Everyone complaining about LeRibs value on ESPN and other draft sites. Scouts Inc had Cousins graded as a second round pick (83)

Re: 2012 NFL Draft Day 3

I'm torn. I like the 2nd rookie QB. Also, I think this guy is someone who can develop into serious trade bait. I just think 4th was a little high for this position when OLine is more of a need.

For the RS guys ... pfffft. It's a luxury position. If you find one, great. Given the likelihood of bustage at that position and the minimal playing time, I would waste a pick on it until the 7th round - if then.

OLine, DB or ILB on the other hand.

redskins5044 04-28-2012 12:37 PM

For all the fans that want a WR we don't have a need there. I like the pick, took the BPA
