Our Defense has been head shoulders better the second half the season vs the first 6 games. Football outsiders had ranked like 30th or 29th at the beginning of the season and its slowly climbed towards the middle of the pack since. Our pass rush struggles and safety play is still our biggest weakness |

That is a characteristic of great teams. I don't think I have heard even a whisper of back biting or infighting, even when we were at 3-6. Bullet #9 from the ten observations article sums it up pretty well:
Linebacker Rob Jackson also played more on third downs in the second half and recorded a sack and drew a holding penalty. Jackson often comes out in these situations, partly because if he’s on the field the opposition knows he’s going to rush. It’s harder to block if there’s some doubt and you can scheme certain rushes by having a guy fake the rush and drop. With Jackson, there’s no faking because he’s rarely going to drop into coverage. That’s why Lorenzo Alexander has played ahead of him on these downs. But not Monday. “I told [defensive coordinator Jim Haslett] to let me get some third downs,” Jackson said. “He left me out there and he believed in me. I felt I had to show up. If I’m asking for an opportunity I have to go show him.”
|

Unfortunately for the Ravens they couldnt beat the Steelers with their 3rd string QB. The Ravens are going nowhere with Flacco which the Skins are poised to start going places with RG3. The Skins will beat the Ravens. |

I hear you but there were still a handful of plays that didn't work. I still think the play calling is suspect. Don't forget the two fumbles (RG3 & Alfmo); SMH. |
The way Baltimore has played the last two weeks it is definitely a winnable game.

There were a couple bad calls for sure, as would happen with any offense in history. But like I said, by and large. The majority of the play calling was exceptional. And what do the fumbles have to do with the play calling? If anything it only adds to the strong play calling bc they were fumbles after big gains. And on the Morris one in particular, the team was moving down the field before the turnover. |

Looks like Suggs might be out, which makes the Ravens' defense look very ordinary. Flacco has struggled this year as well. I think the Redskins take them out, but I won't think about that game (much) until tomorrow, lol! |
Hey Smot, do you think their is concern about the long term health of RG III and him staying healthy. John Gruden kept talking about RG III taking the hits. Do you think it's a line issue due to him not staying in the pocket? While cousins is the insurance policy, do you think in the 2014 draft the skins should draft another qb? Thanks
I'm sure they'd like for him to slide better and of course don't want him to get hurt, but we're set at QB |
Who laughed out loud when Gruden called D Hall a shutdown corner last night?
I did. Gruden gushes about everyone, but that was over the top. I also almost thought i saw griffin contain a laugh himself when Gruden put Hall in the same category as guys like Fletcher in the pre-game interview. Hall is an occasional playmaker, but he's about the furthest thing from a shutdown corner i can imagine.
Banks is done.
should he be? Yes. Is he? No. As sorry as he's been all year, he'll return a punt for a TD in one of these last 4 games and cement his spot on the roster next year. IMO the possibility of one TD a year isnt worth his horrible running/decision making on every other return. |

"A handful of plays that didn't work"?!? C'mon man! On what magical offense does every play "work"? Did every play Green Bay, New England, San Francisco, etc. etc. etc. ... "work"?? DEAR GOD give credit where it is f'ing due! KS & MS have a scheme for their QB that, according to every single analyst paid to analyze football, has said "Wow! That's f'ing brilliant". Sure, RGIII drives it to perfection, but that's b/c KS & MS built it just for him. We just put 200+ ground yards on the defending SB champions. On offense, we put a 2nd half drive together that ate up clock and scored a TD on a ridiculous play that, I bet, the Giants still haven't figured out. We then ran the ball down their gut and, thanks to doing so, pulled off a beautiful 20 yard play action that all but sealed the game. Enough is enough. If the best you've got is "a handful of plays didn't work", please take that weak sauce someplace else to debate. I, for one, think it is B f'ing S. |

lol true. But I think like we've talked about before, Gruden just talks up everybody in a positive way, often too much. I just thought that was funny. In terms of the playcall post, come'on man. Last night was nothing but good design and good calls. Cant be perfect everytime, and give the giants defense a little credit, there not scrubs along the d-line. Had no problem last night. |
Re: Giants at Redskins Post Game Thread
We are all amazed at how RG3 is playing like a veteran and I'd like to give major props to Alfred Morris for doing the same. How many rookies come back from a fumble and pretty much win the game with those runs towards the end. I think it is safe to say that we are set at QB and RB for the future.

Re: Giants at Redskins Post Game Thread
The play calling by and large was brilliant. Had the Giants biting on D repeatedly
F*** yeah it was. The Giants didn't know if the Skins were coming or going, passing or running, running inside or outside, quick hit or stretch. Heavy reliance on run, with a nice mix of straight drop backs and play action off the option. What I particularly liked was the fact that, on the final two drives, Kyle didn't get cute. Creative, the TD to Garcon was a thing of beauty, and, on the P/A pass to Garcon, a little daring but nothing too fancy. Just a nice mix with good clock control. Oh wait, did I just mention Garcon's name as a key factor twice in the 4th Quarter of a critical game. I am sure Gaffney [Stallworth/(cheap pedestrian WR of your choice)] would have been just as effective. Why the hell did we sign this POS anyway? Clearly he has neither the speed to separate or the consistent hands needed to make the tough catches. Any thoughts on the matter Goat? I know we got four games to go. I know we could drop out of the race with a single loss. But you know what? MS & KS just managed a 3 game sweep of our division opponents and did it with creative game planning and solid, sometimes brilliant, play calling. If that doesn't get your juices flowing for the future, the go play on ExtremeSkins. |

Oops. Sorry for the rant - just saw this. I didn't remember you as being on the "MS & KS suck" band wagon. Just saw the statement and it set me off. Really just want to give a big middle finger to all the "Garcon was a waste, KS is holding RGIII back. You'll see, everyone is going to want to fire MS by the end of the year" crowd. And yes ... I realize that's not particularly courteous or Christian - but, unlike RGIII, I am merely human and, on occasion, err. |
Re: Giants at Redskins Post Game Thread
Rants aside (thank you for your indulgence) ... Has anyone noticed that, now, many teams have adopted that "college crap" Pistol Offense set? CRed made the comment to me last night and I have since wondered if other teams were using it prior to this year. It does seem to have sprung up out of nowhere this season. Were Denver and Carolina using it last year?
Whatever happens as far as the playoffs, one things for sure, Kyle's stock has jumped big time.
A month or two ago, i think Smoot said/implied there was mutual interest to varying degrees with several teams and it was all but garaunteed he'd be somewhere else next year. I really hope there's some way we can keep him. He and RGIII are obviously working well together and i think switching offensive coordinators would only stunt the offense. I can't imagine someone else coming in and doing as good a job as Kyle. I guess it really depends on how long Mike plans to coach. If we really just wants to coach out the rest of his contract, then i could see snyder/allen convincing Kyle to stay if they promised making him the HC when his dad retires. If Mike has no intention of retiring anytime soon, then Kyle is gone... and i'm worried he'd go to Philly or Dallas. |

Re: Giants at Redskins Post Game Thread
Really excited about the future. Look, I'd still like to see some tinkering with the offense and God knows we need some help on defense. But this team took a huge step in the right direction last night.
I was watching post-game on Comcast. You could just hear it in their voices and see it in their eyes. They've bought in. They believe they can win now. Trent Williams in particular...man, you mention RGIII's name and he almost gets emotional. Not kidding. He's all..we can't let them touch Robert. Robert this and Robert that. I think he takes RG's success personally being the anchor to the offensive line. Garcon another one. He's like two different people. Intense and mouthy on the field and very humble during interviews. It's just good to see the talent and the attitude finally catch up with each other and watch the results on the field. So happy for the team, the fans, and the city. God knows we've been long suffering. |

After we beat Baltimore we will really be in the drivers seat. Dallas will lose to cincy and the giants will lose to N.O

Re: Giants at Redskins Post Game Thread
RG3 ran the read option to perfection, completely neutering the Giants defensive ends, who are among the best in the league. Just wait until Kyle adds more wrinkles like the bootleg and no huddle to the regular arsenal. Griffin is a D coordinator's worst nightmare, and I love watching defenses on their heels trying to deal with him.
