That doesn't seem to coincide with the money he put into upgrading the jumbotrons, installing party decks, etc...

The field is just used a lot more than other football fields around the league, and I'm sure Snyder now sees that because of the wear and tear, it's just not going to hold up to that much use all year long.

But, I hope he does strongly consider building in VA (even though I'm now a NC resident) because it would be a bit easier for me and a bit closer for me to get to games in NoVa as opposed to MD.
The party decks were more about removing seats than upgrading the stadium.

I guess I dont think the field is used more than others. College teams play there maybe once a year and there's only an occasional soccer game and/or concert. Bottom line is the field isnt used that much.

From what I have been hearing he really wants the team back in DC but once again DC city council is screwing it up.

With this mayor insisting on a name change, I doubt Snyder's going to move the team back to D.C. unless the council caves, which I feel would happen before Snyder caved into the demands to change the name.

He will lose. DC would make too much money for them not to allow the team to move there.

I've seen games in DC where there were large puddles on the field and players were hydroplaning on the water. This is nothing.
Hogs root in the mud....thats football.

Its amazing that DC is poised once again to mess this up. I have said often that its only a matter of time before the name is changed but DS will change it when he wants not because of some demand or recommendation from the Mayor.

Hard to imagine the name change thing ever happening. Just not enough public outcry to force Snyder's hand for one... i.e nobody really cares. Second, countless court battles have been found in the team's favor.

Not happening.

I tent to believe your right with the name. No one actually cared. This is the second or third highest valued team, I doubt the NFL would really even consider such a change to one of the games most iconic teams.

I think people do care because I hear them talk about it and they think it should be changed.

I dont see the name being changed by force but it will be changed by the organization when they decide the time is right. That time might be in 1 year or it might be in 10 years but the time will come. Kind of like Augusta National and female members.

Looking at the field in Denver it clearly is a victim of a full seasons use but they sure have made it look pretty decent for this game. A little envious. Maybe the FedEx grounds crew is to blame.

I haven't commented before, but a few thoughts:

1) the first thing I heard the Sirius announcing crew today said what a bad condition the denver field is in.

2) Heinz Field does some rework on their field midway through the season

3) at 3 - 6 and not having had a home playoff game in 13 years, I imagine Snyder has been cheap on the end of season field. By the time we were back in the chase, I doubt they could have done much to make it better.

4) I expect that going forward, we will at the least follow the same procedures Heinz uses

People that talk about it are few and far between. It's just not an issue that has enough public backing.

Comparing this to Augutsa is a bit of a stretch.

Why would the team change it voluntarily without being pressured? When the time is right? What does that even mean?

irish 01-12-2013 06:54 PM

Re: Field Condition

Maybe where you are people dont talk about it but where I am they do and they arent few and far between.

I guess you'd have to ask Augusta why they decided the time was right and I'm not sure they could really even give you an answer. If I knew when the time is right I could tell you when this will go down but i dont know when t is or what it means. There isnt and wont be a logical reason why the time is right but the decision will be made and that's when the time will be right.

They have a hybrid field. If you scroll back a page or two there is an article written about the surface.

I'm sure he does but as was said before JKC locked that place up tight for a while in PG county.Between infrastucture deals and tax deals with the county and the state I think (not sure) it might be another tenyears before Snyder can move the team without it costing him a fortune

A Little history on Fed Ex,the lease is up in 2027.

Yeah, if the name of the team changed it would have happened a very long time ago. And most people are okay with the Redskins name. I for one feel the name of the team should be changed to that of one of the long standing native tribes, but I don't truly see what difference it makes.....

I dont have a problem one way or the other with the name but I still say people arent really ok with the name. There's a letter to the editor in today's Wash Post suggesting the name be changed.

It would be nice if the team had two names. I don't see why the team can't be called the Redskins and the Cheyene. Or the Redskins and the Apache. Or the Redskins and the Cherokee. Or the Redskins and the Sioux. Just saying.

Two names?

I'm not sure that naming the team after a specific tribe is going to help things any.

I am missing your point...
An example of a potential name would be....Cherokee Redskins?
Or Sioux Redskins?

What exactly are you suggesting? One non-"offensive" BS name for home games so we can bow down to the idiot mayor and political correctness and then use the name "Redskins" on the road when not playing in a town run by a mayor who wants to ruin everyone's football fun?

Back to the topic...we all know the field was in horrible condition, but would we and the media even be talking about it if Robert Griffin's already-injured knee hadn't been hurt again in this game? If he had made it through the game healthy and led us to victory, would he be in the news and would this thread had gone past 10 posts of "yeah, I noticed that too, but that's football!".

The media wouldn't care about Chris Clemons' knee.

So yeah, the field was bad and I'm sure it will be fixed now to protect Snyder's investment in RGIII. It seems like EVERYTHING is a controversy for us these days...our QB, our field, our name...gee, it's great to have media attention now, isn't it?

Maybe the whining will stop when we win the Lombardi next season.

Re: Field Condition

Is the field in a low spot or something where there is bad drainage? Can they dig it up, put down, gravel, sand, sod and just make it drain better? I know a lot of fields these days are crowned so that the water runs off. I don't have answers, I'm just asking questions. By the way, can any of these local news guys in Washington just go ask the FEX-X field crew what the problem is directly? Or are they off limits because it would embarrase Dan Snyder? This has Washington Post news story written all over it to me.

Just wondering if anyone noticed that at the game last week, it looked as if the grass field had been replaced with a NextTruf field.
