Giants lost Andre Brown with a leg fracture, they have Ryan Torain and Delray Scott, you know they'll be watching the waiver wire.

Rambo looked good from I can tell minus the all 22. Amerson obviously made the big play but also didn't seem to get his name called much...that's good. Thompson made the decision at PR simultaneously hard then easy. Misjudged that first one and almost booted it...but the TD was pretty special. Hs on the team...without a doubt.

how can royster and williams and thompson all be safe bets? are we keeping 6 RBs when only 2 are ever going to see the field?

my guess would be we keep 3 unless we're really weak somewhere else and can afford thompson as a returner only. more likely he's #3 and jamison is on the PS. we might keep williams or royster, but neither one looks as good vs #1s.

Here's a couple of roster questions:

Will the redskins keep 6 wide receivers? And if they do- who will it be: Briscoe or Nick Williams? How long do wait for Briscoe to live up to his prototype measurables before you give up on him? Nick Williams might be able to give you some solid production and a backup special teams returner.

Williams will not make it. The RBs will be Alfmo, Helu, Royster, and CT.

Royster will see the field some. He has improved and is better than some people here think.

CT is the punt returner. He will probably be used in some gadget plays.

Re: Bucs vs Skins Gameday Thread

I think Royster sticks. He's probably a better fit in this scheme than Helu, he just doesn't have his speed or quicks. But he's a good patient runner. I think the RBs will be Helu, Royster, and Thompson behind Morris.

Re: Bucs vs Skins Gameday Thread

Tough call between Royster and Williams. Luckily I think both are competent enough to hold the role.

Re: Bucs vs Skins Gameday Thread

Remember, there's Rob Jackson, Jarvis Jenkins, Carriker, and Hurt all who are on the team but don't count to the roster due to suspension or PUP.

Also keep in mind Tanard Jackson has a chance to he reinstated.

I think Royster makes it over Keiland Williams because the difference between the two isnt as big as people think.

I don't think Briscoe makes the team. I think the last spot is between Nick Williams and Lance Lewis. I think after last night they chose Williams and put Lewis on the PS.

I think Merling makes the team but gets cut once Jarvis returns.

I think Jose Gumbs is a better option right now than Pugh, Gomes and even a healthy Phillip Thomas. It'll be real interesting to see where he ends up.

Pashos is another name I can see on this roster as much as I could see him off this roster.

It's going to be interesting.

Oh and pat white isnt making this team. But he could, along with a RB or WR be shipped to another team for a player or pick to be named.

Interesting tidbit about Chris Thompson. Shanny and crew actually had a late 1st/2nd round grade on him(talent wise).

I think for the last RB spot, they may be looking at someone who plays special teams, which wouldnt bode well for Royster if thats what they are thinking. A lot of hard decisions on cut down day.

I think Thompson is that last RB spot. Assuming they keep 4 which I'm guessing they will.

That's one heck of a promotion for Thompson. He changes from running back to savior.

I like Williams a lot. Lewis too. I think maybe both are PSers. Can't see how we keep 6 WRs when most of our TEs can flex to WR. It's a good spot to save for an extra RB/OL

Thats why I said it doesnt bode well for Royster. But thats only if the coaching staff is looking at it like that. They may want the best RB and just choose to fill in special teams with what they have. If thats their thinking, then I think they keep Royster. If they are placing an emphasis on special teams, then Williams has the upper hand between the two imo.

I think they are looking at 2 primary runners and 2 3rd down backs. Morris and either Royster/Williams and the primary and Helu/Thompson as the 3rd down backs. Helu doesnt seem to have the ideal patience and vision to be an every down back for this system. But he can be a fill in short term and be a quality 3rd down back. It all depends on how Shanny is viewing it though and I could be way off. Just what I have been thinking this preseason. I havent been viewing Thompson and Royster as competing for a roster spot.

If they believe they can get Jamison to the PS, I think 2 3rd down backs makes some sense.

Rhaamses 08-30-2013 09:50 AM

It's gong to be interesting to see how he performs when the lights go up. I'm thinking Santana might get early reps.

Re: Bucs vs Skins Gameday Thread

So is the thinking behind keeping 4 TB is for Helu's or Thompson's health concerns? I dont see enough touches for 4 RBs. Alfmo, Helu, Thompson would be my preference...Royster is a non factor in that rotation, K Williams is a better back imo, but again not enough touches. Jamison is going to the practice squad and looks ready to be added to the roster if need be. I mean is Shanny keeping 4 because he read the SI article and he thinks this might increase his ranking?

Id rather cut Royster and K Williams and look at the waiver wire for ILB/Safety/Tackle depth. Sh*t, even if Shanny and Kyle said I really like Lance Lewis or Skye Dawson, I'd rather keep that potential player over a K William or an Oyster.

Rumors are we're keeping 4 RBs, 1 FB, 4 TEs, 5 WRs. Take it for what it's worth.

RBs:

Morris
Helu
Royster
Thompson

FB:

Young

TE:
Davis
Paulsen
Reed
Paul

WR:

Garcon
Moss
Morgan
Hankerson
Robinson

The question is would you get rid of Royster for Williams or Lewis, right now I would.

GridIron26 08-30-2013 10:53 AM

Re: Bucs vs Skins Gameday Thread

I would prefer to put Williams or Lewis on PS because three of listed TEs could play as WR for a game easily if we need them to. Thompson and Helu have durability issues so I feel it would be ideal for us to have a back up RB in case if one of them got hurt.

JoeRedskin 08-30-2013 11:01 AM

Pretty sure neither Williams nor Royster eligible for the Practice Squad.

I wonder if we will be looking at the waiver wire and at what positions?

JoeRedskin 08-30-2013 11:24 AM

Be silly not to but, other than the 4th safety spot or 9th OL, we are trying to figure out how not to cut folks. Hard to see them getting a waiver wire guy for any other spots.

Deep team this year. Deep team.

Lotus 08-30-2013 11:31 AM

Re: Bucs vs Skins Gameday Thread

This team's attitude is different than the past. There is a quiet confidence which you can feel from everyone, even the third teamers. Not bombastic swagger, but quiet confidence.

If I may be so bold, I haven't felt this quiet confidence from a Redskins team since the glory days of the '80's.

I meant Nick Williams and I never said anything about putting Royster on PS. I believe that we should put a WR, either Nick Williams or Lance Lewis on PS instead of put one of the two WRs on roster at the expense of other RB.

It makes a lot of sense to me to carry 4 RBs. Alfred Morris is tough and durable, but he gets a lot of carries, and he came to the NFL with a lot of carries in college. Roy Helu, Jr. is coming off a big injury. Chris Thompson's health is questionable. With all of that in mind, Royster or K. Williams is a good option. I would like to have Jamison over Royster or K. Williams, but I think he's heading to the practice squad and will be added to the 53-man roster next year. If I remember correctly, the Redskins are limiting Jamison's carries so they can safely put him on the practice squad.

Yeah I agree, Helu and Thompson both need to prove they can stay healthy.

Re: Bucs vs Skins Gameday Thread

I really think that Nick Williams is an underrated player. Different situation and position but he could be this year's Alfred Morris. I'd rather have him on the active roster rather than practice squad because he seems to bring a different style that none of the other wideouts have. And he also doesn't have a case of the dropsies like a couple of them have. Those drops are killers especially multiple ones in one game- like the Steelers game last season.

Number one thing is the constant effort, everyone plays hard, no one quits down to the last guy. We are gonna be the more physical team now.
