Even if we have the DC of all time this defense would still suck. Not sticking up for Haslett, just this defense lacks talent at key positions.
The saints were dead last a year ago in total defense, they were actually one of the worst defenses of all time. They gave up 440 a game. They didn't change much on the roster besides Vaccaro. Ryan has done a great job turning that D around, him and Rex know their defense and even with the lack of talent on Washington, I think they both could make this unit one of the better units in the NFL. Maybe top 10. |

When your offense can jump out to early leads it becomes easier to play defense. The league is so up and down from year to year. Last year Rob's defense struggled in Dallas, so who knows what they will be next year. |

The cowboys lost 7 or 8 starters on defense last year, biggest reason for their struggles. |

I agree with the offensive thought. You cannot go 3 and out or have turnovers consistently and expect your defense to come up big every single time. Just look at the Jets D, they are one of the worst scoring defenses in the NFL but that is due to how bad that offense is at times. So I agree that the Saints offense has helped that D. Last year with Dallas, pretty much every important player was injured. Ware was playing with one arm the last game of the season. Plus look what happened to their D once Ryan left... they are now historically bad. |

I don't pretend to be an expert or an NFL GM... I don't think the failure of the defense is all on JH... He is an average Coordinator and we could upgrade... We lack serious talent on that side of the ball... The front 7, what was supposed to be our strength this year, is average on a good day... And our secondary minus Hall (this year alone) is well below average... I'm not really sure what you can ask of him... He calls the plays, it's up to the players to execute, which they can't... I think Kyle receives too much criticism as well... Only Reed and Garcon can create separation on a consistent basis... The O-line can only block for so long... IIIsus has had a recovery/sophomore slump season... Once again players have to execute.... I think the bottom line is that we lack the talent and depth of good teams... We simply are not a good team talent wise... If you want to blame someone, blame Mike....
our secondary… with… hall... is well below... average… |

Lovie got two votes!!! Lovie finally got some love!
Jay Gruden got a pity vote, too. SmootSmack, you are a big, soft-hearted Teddy Bear. |
Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach
Gary Kubiak is probably going to be canned after this season. Why not have Shanny bring him in? Might be fun for all!!!!!!

I've been considering this too. Should Mike be retained and Kyle wish to pursue other opportunities, it makes sense to try and grab Kubiak as our OC. I'm still more interested in who our DC would be, assuming Mike stays. |

He will undoubtedly be a top HC contender at the end of the season. He's got a great pedigree, and should get some strong consideration from several teams. |

Couldn't agree more, Shaw is my first choice followed by either Roman or Bevell. |

A 3-7 coach and the 2-9 offensive genius? No thanks. |

A change of scenery might help. Look at Andy Reid. Could be the same for Kubiak. |
No thanks on Kubiak
He should have been fired 2 years ago and I'd be surprised if he's fired after this yr,the owner loves him |
Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach
We need another poll option, "Just ask Robert who he wants".
|
Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach
David Shaw. Lovie a close second.
|
Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach
I get the feeling Shanny will be gone and we'll end up with Zorn 2.0. Not someone as incompetent as Zorn, but no one that's coveted either.

Unless Vinny comes back we shouldn't have to worry about another Zorn situation. |

I'm just worried now. I almost expect a bad hiring move, even though one needs to be made. Life as Skins fan. |
Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach
If we make a bad coaching hire it's self imposed. There's plenty of coaching talent available, nearly all superior to what we have now. And like SS said in another thread the Skins are a coveted franchise.

Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach
We need to get a coach that knows what made this a top NFL franchise. Strong O-line play, the deep ball, dominant special teams and the 4-3 defense. Right now we have none of those...

The annoouncers for the LSU-TAMU game talked about the "1970's-style offense" run by LSU under OC Cam Cameron. Meanwhile, LSU was controlling the clock with their running game, playing tough "D", and beating Johnny Manziel & Co. I was thinking at that time that I love that style of football. I'm no expert on the subject, but to me a dominant OL is the foundation of a great football team. It keeps your opponent's offense off the field and his defense on the field - both of which are good things. It also keeps your defense off the field. All of these things add up to difference makers in the 4th Qtr. |
Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach
GM Scott Pioli
HC Josh McDaniels OC Brian Dabol or Ken Dorsey QB Coach Phillip Montgomery BAYLOR DC Romeo Crenel |
Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach
Others for HC: Tom Clements
HC: Pete Carmichael Jr. |
Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach
Wonder how the votes would look if the poll is refreshed Tuesday morning.
|
Anybody. Seriously....anybody.

Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach
The new Head Coach will be chosen by a prime time reality television show. Contestants will complete weekly by coaching various teams ,(ie high school, Pop Warner, electric football, farm animals,..etc). Redskins fans will vote by phoning or texting into the show. Judges will be Vinny, Deion Sanders, and a coked up Andy Dick.

Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach
I think what's so sad is to see really talented players deteriorate under Shanahan. It was his theme in Oakland, much of his time in Denver, and Washington worst of all.
One of the things that's changed in the nfl for the worse is how safe bad coaches are. The players in Oakland kicked Mike out because he was so bad. Unfortunately that's almost impossible today. |
Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach
MS lost this team when he benched a talented tight end in Fred Davis to prove a point. It showed that he cares more about proving a point than winning. It is time to move on with a west coast offensive styled coach.

Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach
Mike Shanahan has really struggled here and it's time for a change. But I'm not going to ignore all that he's accomplished in his career, or make up stuff because I think he shouldn't be the HC of this team anymore
|
Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach
I can't wait to see what leaked lines come out of the locker room this week. The press is going to have a field day.

Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach
Some no name coach that can instill a sense of pride in the team.

This. He won a division title, he changed the culture. Thank you, now move along. |

Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach
TBH I think if I were a NFL head coach candidate, I would pass on this job. No coach has done well under this owner, the roster has HUGE holes in it, and we are short on upcoming draft picks. I don't think anyone could right this ship, before the fans or ownership turned on him.

I'd say yeah. He's wasted all of our time and will have set us back years. |
Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach
Is the changing of the culture something we have evidence of, or is it the kind of thing that happened, but we'll never actually see it because our feet aren't close to the dirt?

Correction, we are short on upcoming draft PICK. Can we stop acting like we traded 3 entire drafts? Granted a first rounder is a big deal but it's one pick in the upcoming draft. Geez, how hard is that? |

Not feeling the change of culture thing....we were a lousy team with no heart when he got here and were a lousy team with no heart now. |
