I ain't optimistic, look at all the money they "saved" giving him 44 mil over 2 years. I'm trying to enjoy this while it lasts because nobody else in the history of this league has screwed it up this badly while they have a franchise qb on the roster.

That should've been the deal last year, the cap will go up again this year so it will have to be a larger number. Skins keep shooting themselves in the foot on this one, the price goes up each year as the cap goes up.

I'd say pay the man but Allen insists on a team friendly deal that won't kill us if it doesn't work out. So far I haven't seen any indication that that's what Kirk wants though. We've made big money deals in the past that won't hurt us, i.e. Norman, no reason we can't do it again.

Re: Cousins Saga 4.0. Is he done in DC?

KC has wanted to, and will continue to want to, see what the market is willing to pay him. I think the Skins need to let him see the market, which will be pricey, and then pay him that plus. He's not giving the Skins a hometown discount ever, and he's worth it for him and Gruden to stay together.

Re: Cousins Saga 4.0. Is he done in DC?

If he leaves next year we are taking a huge step backwards barring some stroke of luck that lands us a really good fucking quarterback. I dont see us drafting high enough to sign a blue chipper and who out there is coming to Washington in free agency that would matter? We should have locked this guy up two years ago. Would have already saved a few mill, and he wouldn’t have it floating around in his head. Kirk doesn’t seem to be the type of guy who would rest on his laurels because he got paid. He does seem to me to be the type of guy who needs to feel the love to play at his best.

Wow! Just wow. Everyone should watch that.

I am showing that to my 9 year old son, that is how a leader operates. That was super impressive. Not just what KC says but how others treat him, he is seen as a leader.

One football note from that. See how he said how he didn't like the play not to lose mentality. That is on JG, he seems to never wanting to risk putting the pedal down and bury teams. JG's conservative play calling in situations like that is super irritating.

Somebody is going to pay him... that was my point.

I do think Snyder would pay him, he’s already given him $44M the last two years so why not? If he was truly that petty they would have gotten rid of him already.

I agree with you on Kirk, love watching the leader he's become and it makes me a bit sad to think he might not be here next year. But I disagree on the conservative play calling, it's not like we went to a standard 2 runs & a pass for a 3 and out type deal. Players have to execute. Kirk can also change the play if need be.

Re: Cousins Saga 4.0. Is he done in DC?

I don't see a third franchise tag year. Cousins is getting a huge pay day next year. I just hope it's with the Redskins. All things considered, I think we have to understand that Cousins has proven a lot to us. Sure, there are examples that we can point to and say "hold the phone", but he's got the leadership down, he's working with less fire power for offense this year, and he's a guy you want as your quarterback. I think he'll get a Super Bowl ring at some point. I hope it's here. Sign Kirk Cousins!!!!!

I’m done with hearing what else he has to do to justify a pay day. He’s going to be the highest paid player in the league soon enough, whether it’s here or somewhere else. That’s just a fact.

Totally agree with this post. MNF and playoffs are the last realistic humps he has to get over.

Re: Cousins Saga 4.0. Is he done in DC?

I could easily see that Snyder would be very trigger-shy after all the times he overpaid, as well as the many times teams have paid big money for a QB only to find that they weren't any good. If he was open about this to Cousins then Cousins shouldn't hold a grudge.

In addition, if we play well this year (but don't win the Super Bowl (miracle if we do this year)), then this will be a desired destination for a lot of players (including Cousins) who would like to win it all. If I was in his shoes, I would certainly prefer here to San Fran because of that. (Am I actually saying we could be getting that good? Somebody pinch me.)

Re: Cousins Saga 4.0. Is he done in DC?

Snyder will go down as the biggest fool if he does not sign Cousins..He already botched it big time! This is why I am so damn negative about this team...Part of me wants them to suck and i have a excuse for not watching but then they play just well enough that you start to believe again..best case scenario is We make playoffs and maybe win a game..then what ?? we lose our QB and go back to the drawing board.. either way this ship is leaking!

Without a top QB you are nothing!! how many games will Green bay win without Rogers? Snyder better get this right. Who the heck are we going to get to play QB ?? I will admit at times I have said we can't pay Cousins the top salary in the league BUT somebody will and they will win games..the team needs to at least match any offer and sign him if he will..

FrenchSkin 10-20-2017 11:37 AM

Re: Cousins Saga 4.0. Is he done in DC?

I think it all comes down to what kind of season we have.

If we make the playoffs I don't see the Skins not matching any offer made.

If we don't and it's because KC had a bad game in a critical spot, then maybe they'll try to low ball him again and he's gone.

If KC has a great season but we don't make the playoffs because the offense around him shits the bed, then maybe he wants out, but I think it's highly improbable, he knows he needs a good OL to succeed, he has that here and he seems to love his big guys.
And so far defense is showing him they can do their part too.
One more good off season and we are solid contenders IMO.

Heck, if we beat the Eagles on MNF, which we came close to week 1, even this year anything's possible !

KC has the 2nd best passer rating on first down right now. There really isn't an argument to be made that he isn't worth a long term deal, and the market is what it is, so DS and BA will get it done this year.

LOL. The Jason Reid TL is hitting up the ole KC is done here in DC stuff. He clearly says that Kirk does not want to be here and it comes down to a incident that happened in Cleveland his rookie year.

He's way off on the whole 49ers shit though. Skins can put a non-exclusive franchise tag on him which will allow them to match any offer, or they would get a 1st and 3rd rounder as compensation if he walked. That alone would stop the 49ers from signing Kirk. No way are they going to give the #1 or #2 pick in the NFL draft for a 30 year old QB AND have to sign him to a 150mil contract. That isn't happening. That said, if they hold that top pick or 2nd top pick, they will be drafting a QB since some good ones are coming out this year.

@JReidESPN
1 of a couple/Kirk is smart. He's way too smart to say anything stupid. But anyone who knows what went down in Cleveland his rookie season

@JReidESPN
2 of 2/knows Skins were always gonna have an uphill battle to sign him if he ever balled out. And he has balled out. Not Rodgers. But good.

Look around the league right now. The Bills are 4-2 w/ Taylor. What's he making? Jacksonville is 4-3, KC is paying Smith 10 million. He'll get a raise next year but not 30 million a year. Meanwhile Stafford is the highest paid guy in the league and the Lions are 3-3 and he hasn't won a playoff game.

Right now I'd say the Redskins should let KC walk if he needs more than Stafford.

I can hardly believe that you and other poor souls still think the Redskins can sign a long-term deal with Kirk Cousins. It's too late for that. Snyder and Smithers blew that deal years ago when they hired one of the smartest player personnel executives in football and then rejected his advice to sign Cousins back then to what would now be an affordable long-term deal. Any future long-term deal for Kirk Cousins will not be affordable and it will not be with the Redskins.
