Re: Redskins Training Camp Thread
We'll see about the wr's. A ways to go. I think we're going to see these young guys push for playing time. Gruden basically said that Doc can't get away from Db's but can jump. WTF? Then why is he at the top of the depth chart you dummy???? The only reason I can think of is they need to keep his value high cause of a trade.
Keenum sucks. Denver moved on from him for Flacco... lol. Colt has been in a cast, comes in at camp and is basically named the starter? Hoffman said that Colt has been getting the ball out faster, processes things faster blah blah. You can bet Colt will be under center against the Eagles. No surprise cause Gruden loves him like a son. He is the best we got right now. It is what it is I guess. Haskins isn't even in play to start which is really disappointing. I just don't understand why they can't narrow down the playbook, take the majority of plays he ran in college and go with that stuff. Has he been so bad that he's going to end up 3rd on the depth chart behind two journeymen?? SMH.... |

I am glad they aren't going to throw him to the wolves. The Redskins haven't had a franchise QB in over 30 years. No reason to rush the kid and ruin him physically or mentally. |

Need to seriously chill on Haskins. Everyone knew coming in he was going to be a bit of a project having only played one year in college.

That is a lame excuse honestly, Kyler Murray only had one year of starts, and yeah you can say Colt and Case are better than the backups that Arizona had but lets be real here, they could have given Haskins more reps out there. I get that he is a rookie and all, but I find it kind of funny that that is always the reason that we hear. |
Re: Redskins Training Camp Thread
Didn't Haskins even say himself that he might need some time to develop and just wanted to be ready to start, whether that was this year or next year?

Mobility makes it easier for a rookie QB to start. This was why RG3 was so successful as a rookie. Question is, can they transition to being a QB that can also throw consistently from the pocket. Some can, some can't. Murray is still a question mark, but his mobility and his familiarity with the offense is a big reason he's expected to be able to start early.

Too early to say Keenum sucks...I hope he plays great and we bring Haskins along a little slow and not throw him to the wolves! Keenum has played and won against NFL defense.. Haskins has like 14 starts in college ball . Great Raw talent with huge ceiling !

Murray had arguably the best offensive line in college football. Arguably the top WR in college football. And the Big 12 ain't what it used to be. He got drafted into, arguably, the worst offensive line in the NFL. With an aging Fitzgerald and a group of unknowns to throw too. And he is in the NFC West. Ill eat my words if you are right. But honestly, I fear for his safety. |

Exactly. I don't get splitting up the reps between 3 guys. That to me is just ridiculous. If Gruden feels most comfortable with Colt then fine, split the reps between Colt and Haskins. And if Haskins isn't playing a bunch in the pre season then Gruden can go fuck off somewhere. |

Personally I really could give a damn about his starts. He's in the NFL now. And the o-line really isn't an excuse cause the QB's are not getting hit right now. He should be getting half of the 1st team reps. |

Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
If they want to say that Dwayne isn't ready that's all well and good, but I hate the "He only played one year" as the only excuse. Dwayne Haskins threw for 50 TDs in a conference that actually plays defense. The Big 12 doesn't. They are both question marks, but I just don't like the "handicap" thrown on Haskins or any other QB like that. |

For the life of me I don't get the Keenum trade, even with Colt coming off injury and not knowing how the draft was going to unfold. I wouldn't have pulled the trigger on that. Like Schneed has in his signature, if you don't know who the best QB of the three you have are, you don't have a QB. I would have been splitting reps between Colt and Haskins 50% a piece, and had some 3rd stringer on the team too, but I wouldn't have traded for Keenum just to have him taking 33% of the first team reps. |

Yes we know he's somewhat of a project, but it's they way they're handling him that's so annoying. Watch, he will not play much in the pre season. Tom Brady will play more than Haskins will. |
Re: Redskins Training Camp Thread
Just heard on the Redskins Talk Pod Colt re-injured his ankle again and was pulled from practice today.
I can't find it anywhere in print and the severity isn't known but Finlay and Mitch insinuated it was the same ankle which he broke last year. |

He did have a great line but he is very accurate throwing downfield and intermediate. |

McCoy kept out for precautionary reasons:
https://www.nbcsports.com/washington/redskins/redskins-qb-situation-colt-mccoy-sharp-early-leaving-precautionary-reasons No limp or any indication of anything serious. Think he'll be fine. My issue with him is him throwing downfield. Realize he can dink and dunk and keep things decent, but what can he do when defenses crowd the line? Can't wait to see all the qbs in the preseason. |

Re: Redskins Training Camp Thread
For the life of me I don't get the Keenum trade
Haskins wasn't a sure thing at that point. Smith definitely wasn't coming back anytime soon and McCoy was coming off a serious injury himself. The team had to upgrade the qb position immediately anyway they could. They get a guy who took his team to the NFC championship game the year prior in a dream trade. We can argue Keenum all day long. But, at least give the guy a fair chance. We aren't even to the 1st preseason game yet.

Re: Redskins Training Camp Thread
If Colt starts he will last about 4 weeks.
|
Re: Redskins Training Camp Thread
Colt has a noodle arm and his lack of arm strength would be quickly exploited with him as the starter.
People seem to forget that Keenum did some very good work as the starter for the Vikings the year before the Vikes screwed up and signed Cousins. He would probably be the better choice as the stopgap starter if Haskins isn't ready to start the season. Haskins probably won't start until Jay Gruden loses enough games with Colt and/or Keenum to desperately fear losing his job. |

Keenum is the best choice, for all things considered, at this point to start wk 1. Interested to see how he looks in the preseason. He has been raving about Gruden's offense which cannot be a bad thing. |

I give it 2 weeks, he couldn't even last that in 2018. Dude is made of glass, the only reason he's even "competing" for a starting job is due to Jay. No other team in the league would have Colt listed as QB1 |

I doubt Colt would even be a QB2 on a lot of teams. |
Re: Redskins Training Camp Thread
Gruden hates to carry more than two QB on the roster and he has always loved Colt. This is the main reason we have never had a developmental QB because Jay rather have Colt...and is a contributing factor to our predicament.

Re: Redskins Training Camp Thread
“I think the addition of Terry has been a wow factor for me personally and I think everybody who has seen him run on a daily basis,” Gruden said.
Washington selected the former Ohio State player in part because of the offense’s need for speed. Listening to Gruden gush, it’s clear the coach thinks McLaurin could be the team’s top gun sooner than later. “He’s powerful, he’s smart, and he’s physical. That’s a combination that’s rare,” Gruden said before breaking into amazed laughter. “ He’s been exciting.” |
